For those that remember Miner2049's Board Game map, it's back, and now it's got a friend. For those that do not remember, here's a great game for you to play.

Board Game 2, something I've spent most of my last month working on is finally finished, you can download it from here...
http://rounddonut.co.uk/Worms/Index.html
EDIT: Version 1.1 available.
EDIT2: Direct Link (http://rounddonut.co.uk/Worms/BoardGamePack1.1.zip)
EDIT3: Links updated (Again)

In that pack is Miner's original map (I don't think he'd mind it being spread), my new Board Game 2 map, schemes for both of them, a rules text file and a wkMagic version of Board Game 2.

I'm proud of it. Can't wait to see what you guys think. I know the BoardGame style of game play isn't going to be tournament recognised but it's a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

It's very nice. Shame I can't host, otherwise I'd play a few matches of it :(

I always wanted to play this, I've heard alot of it but the scheme or maps...I never found them. Gonna try this when I got friends to play with me. Tx :p

Well I'd never heard of this before so I downloaded it and tried it out (against myself, I have no friends :( )

It's a great idea. More innovative schemes and game ideas is never a bad thing.

However, I personally found your 100 square map too long and hard. Maybe it's just because I'm rubbish at the challenges.

Keep it up though, it'd be nice to see more of these, maybe someone can think up one with some slightly crazy alternatives. And if/when we get a mission editor, there could be all sorts of cool ideas to have with this.

I know Board Game 2 is long and hard (I'm not compensating for anything, honest) but that was by request of my friends, we have no lives and play it all the time which is why it needed to keep us entertained.

I might make "Board Game 2 - The easy version" if demand is high enough.

It wasn't bad, it was just that after half an hour, the furthest I'd got to was square 27 and I justthough "That's it I've had enough", but again, that's probably because I'm rubbish at it and was getting no where.

I would like to make my own map with challenges that I can do, but I doubt I'll ever get round to it.

I think you should make a smaller board, not necessarily harder, but smaller. I know in this game it's easy to carry on from where you left off earlier, but it would be nice to have one that you could complete in half an hour, rather than 2 hours. It'd be more suited for online play then.

Just my thoughts.

I know the original map can be done fairly quickly, and I know that Board Game 2 can in fact be done in 35 minutes with two teams playing... granted it was me doing a beta test and since I know how to do most of it that is a bad example.

Thanks for your comments. I'll see what I can come up with when I get some time.

It'd be nice if you would remake the bit version to color map, also we encountered with my friends a bug in the color version. Maybe we just suck but anyway, on the sink holy box, its 8th, you cant sink the holy no matter what you do, but in 9th its very simple, it goes easily through the holes, in 8th...the holes seems to be too small, maybe nade would fit there but not holy..

Otherwise its great scheme.

What is that magicmap for btw ? We couldnt play it cause I dont remember what to do so all wont get desync >_<

GoDxWyvern

You can easily sink one there! Just throw it into the hole between boxes 5 and 6.

SilPho
11 Mar 2007, 15:28
That is the exact thinking I was hoping for, it looks like you have to sink the Holy from 8 in the same way as box 9, most people assume the hole in box 8 is only for box 12's walking task, but it's also key to sinking the Holy.

The "Easy" version I'm thinking would have box 8's floor sealed to prevent that confusion.

Ye we noticed that it wasnt bug actually on last game we played, I started to think why 8th block doesnt have roof but 9th has so I realized I dont have to sink it on the 8th block. Strange thing is that on 9th box the holy wont sink, it just explodes, but between 5 & 6 it does sink

So what is the magic map I asked before ? What is it for ?

SilPho

I tried to explain it in the rules but I may not have done it very well.

Basically, the magic map contains a little barcode that works with WormKit's wkMagic extension module. Install all of that and you have the extra features that wkMagic gives you. (For that map it's walk through worms and no drowning).

For more information on WormKit, click here http://thecybershadow.net/worms/wormkit/ and if you want the wkMagic module click here http://thecybershadow.net/worms/files/wkmagic1.zip

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Are you sure you did it right? I couldn't get no worm collisions, but the auto-start thing worked fine.

SilPho

Ah, that appears to be a problem. I will correct that tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for the note.

No drowning ? You anyway cant drown or do you mean that if im example blown out of the map I wont drown, I will just appear back to start or something like that ? I remember sth like that of roperace.

And ye, I asked cos I didnt want to read the rules, it looked so boring and it had loads of text >_<

SilPho
13 Mar 2007, 18:57
The no drowning part applies mainly to 2 eventualities, one is accidental teleporting and the other is box 43, where an unfortunate Holy can cause a worm to sail clean over the nearby area to their death.

Anyway, new version of the pack is now online. Includes the fix for the wkMagic version as well as a new Mini Rules text file which hopefully won't scare people as much.

I played it now and enjoyed it. Good work! I shall undertake the attempt to create number three (or four, if you're working on another one) - I'll go for a map 4 times the normal size, though, the game was a little stuffed at times.

Brilliant. Am looking forward to seeing that. Would love to have made a bigger one myself, I know it's crowded in there but without a way to test it all at once I just thought I'd go for the normal size.

Good luck, it's a lot of fun making them.

As one of the early testers of this BG, i saw many changes. I will reiterate Hurrells reminder, every task is possible within all rules , no rule bending is necessary for any task. As earlier mentioned the 8/9 is a classic of hurrells thinking. Another example is the get to box 40 from i think 30? all of the other beta testers were attempting to blast themselves up, and i think one was successful, but the true easy solution is a classic example of no matter how hard it seems, never discount the obvious or simple.

I would like to have seen more of these thinking tasks as opposed to sheer skill (many of the sheep tasks) stuff like sink a holy isnt so much skill as educated trial and error.

SilPho
18 Mar 2007, 23:13
I'm afraid I must disagree with you here, skill is what stops this game being a matter of luck. Anyone can learn the one turn tricks for box 30 or box 9, but it takes skill to do the sheep tasks, and to some extent the Holy tasks as well.

However, the simplicity and fun that is to be had from seeing peoples expressions when they do find the simple solutions to these complicated boxes is priceless, hence I decided to go for a mixture.

I have thoughts and ideas for a future map, one that takes everything stated here into account, but we shall see how things go.

I agree with Hurrell, he has found a good general balance for his map, even though I'm personally not that fond of the last few boxes on it. ;)

I have the first 23 boxes done on my map, sooo... getting there.

Is it bit or png map ? Hate those bitmaps without colors..

GoDxWyvern

It's a .png with the size 3840x1392. There's yet to be made a comfortable method to create odd-sized .bit maps. BitMonkey doesn't allow it. But even if, I prefer .png over .bit myself. :p

Hm..u said four times bigger than a normal map...how do u plan to get that working, wa doesnt allow bigger map yet does it ? Or..maybe I remember wrong..or..nvm

The next update will support them, until then I can take my time with working on it. ;)

Its just..you've talked about new updates all the time, for few years, no progress, at least not something you can see, so you really really believe there's gonna be something like '' Next update ''

GoDxWyvern

I don't believe it, I know it!

Wyvern is an alpha tester. Non-standard map size support has been implemented in the private alpha versions. The public beta is nearly ready for release. This is how Wyvern knows it.

Distrance
20 Mar 2007, 19:50
I know that he is alpha tester, but how im supposed to count on that its gonna be released huh. And this ' 4.0 ' thats just dreaming..like fiddler on it, maybe batty which is boring anyway and other things..ppl just seem to dream about it and no proof

When you say its nearly ready, whats that supposed to mean ? Another two weeks, two months ? Maybe a year ? Its just too boring to wait and wait..

Lex
20 Mar 2007, 20:57
"Nearly ready" means there is a short list of bugs (roughly 6 to 10) needed to be fixed before release. I made no indication of a time period on purpose.

Believe me, though, when I say I understand what you mean. It does seem to be taking forever. It feels terrible. We can live through it. Live life to its fullest and don't just wait for the next WA update. There's more to live for than that. If you want to get involved, get involved. Start doing something productive.

Where do I sign.:D

On topic, when I get some spare time what should I work on first, an "Easy" version of Board Game 2, a colouring of Board Game 1 or a new map?

GoDxWyvern

A new map, of course. Yours is fine the way it is, and there's no real point in wasting time with the original version when it can be spent with creating a new one. Particularly because there's only these two.
