View Full Version : Should have removed single player to make room for more weapons...
Lets face it, people don't play Worms for the single player.
They play it for the skirmishes and multiplayer, Team 17 should have removed the 20 single player missions for more Multiplayer content.
Just my 2 cents.
On what basis do you make this judgement?
Of course people play single player. Granted it's not as popular as multi, but it's important.
The 'asset' and dev cost of providing single player hasn't really affected Worms on 360 and pretty much MOST of the development time was ensuring multiplayer and live worked well.
I'm not sure what more multiplayer content you want in an XBLA title, it's already got more than most of the releases and can be played for hours and hours? One of the main reasons it's been kept reasonably casual and light is so we can actually widen its appeal, not narrow it by making it too complex and fussy for short session play.
You're certainly entitled to your 2c, but in this case, I'm not quite sure on what basis you're trying to qualify it. We have fast, secure, online, voice-supported online play with weekly, monthly and overall leaderboards for Worms for the first time...
And what about the people without live? They get jack squat?
I personally like the idea of a smaller set of weapons. While I'll certainly miss the holy hand grenade, I do think that all the weapons introduced in Worms 2/A did simplify the gameplay a bit too much. Skill-wise I think Worms 1 was the highlight in the series, and I'll be happy if Worms for 360 has gameplay similar to that game.

They haven't downloaded the game from Live Arcade in the first place, have they?

MS periodically release DVD based collections. Really, 360 without live is er, like TV without a cable channel or whatever... it works, but you're missing out.
I don't have a Gold account and I will enjoy playing the Worms game in single player only. :D

what makes you think that the quantity of weapons had anything to do with the size limits? psp version had the same arsenal, and t17 haven't made even a dent in the 1.6GB limit of the umd.

you can always play local multiplayer (same television).

And people who dont have a 360 at all... what do they get?

they get sad.
i like that the weapons were limited, later in the series most matches consisted of using super weapons with lock on, super sheep, air strikes, post drops, etc etc and before you actually got to use any weapons which required skill the enemy was gone.
i think everyone's gonna miss the HHG a bit as it was funny, power but at same time took a bit of skill to use. overall though im glad its going back to its roots

Speak for yourself.
Um, so I assume that worms 360 will include missions (like all 2D worms?)
I just found out about worms today. And since I quit playing PC games and started playing Xbox, i'm getting all interested in this worms ^^

As it goes, the original game didn't. I don't recall Director's Cut having any, actually, but it may have.
Accually i think people with live silver can download the game but they miss out on the whole multiplayer portion of the game. What i meant is that if they took out single player the game would be useless to those who dont have Xbox live gold which wouldnt be cool.

It's got 20 increasingly difficult death matches rather than missions as such. These are all ranked too. Of course you can play against the AI too, or set up your own skirmishes.

did you do anything along the lines of worms2, where with each deathmatch you get the password to the next one, which add up to a story of sorts?
Or is it like Armageddon and what not where as you win, the other teams get extra worms

For multiplayer do we HAVE to pass the controller that rules them all or do we get our own controller this time? :)
Lets face it, people don't play Worms for the single player.
Let's face it - you're talking out of the hole in your backside my son. Plenty of people play single player, if for nothing else than practice.

1-4 controllers are supported.

The opposing teams get more worms, more energy and better tactics. There are 5 CPU flavours which affect how they play.

No, they don't.
They miss out on online multiplayer. That's not the same thing. Offline multiplayer is far more important to me.

Single play isn't optional in my opinion. They want to attract a lot of people that have never played Worms on any other platform before, and without single player to learn and practice on, the game would have a short lifespan.
Also, can you imagine how bad it would be for the experienced player if you were forced to play multiplayer without having any way to play single? Chances are that every game you play in will have at least one person that never played before, and the voice chat would be full of "How do I shoot?", "How do I jump?", "How do I change weapons?", and "Why did my turn end, I didn't even get to move!".
yea my bad they still get offline multiplayer
1-4 controllers are supported.
Do I need a second controller for playing the offline multiplayer (with my son) or can we pass the controller?

In the previous worms games I've played, I don't even use the excluded weapons (except the bat, but it's still not a big deal). Not a problem for me ;)

that will make playing with my mate in america a real *****! lol
