Ok, thanks for your help.

I think it would appeal to a massive fanbase, considering the success of the original worms on psone.

I look forward to any news

By definition, the future has not yet happened. And once it is happening, it becomes the present before slipping away into the past. Logically, the future can never be now.

Do you mean via SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) or a Worms for PS3, on a BD-ROM, DVD-ROM or CD-ROM? (All formats supported by the PS3 (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3))

P.D: I DON'T have a Ps3. Okay? I read these things on wikipedia.

EDIT:

As if there'll ever by a PS3 game on CD ROM.

CD-ROM's are supported by the PS3... These are the PS1 games that are also supported by PS2 and PS3 :p

So:

PS1 = Games in a CD-ROM that also are supported by the PS2 and the PS3.
PS2 = Games in a DVD-ROM that also are supported by the PS3.
PS3 = Games in a BD-ROM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BD-ROM) (i think).

I really hope for a 2D worms for the PS3 - maybe in the PlayStation store similar to the XBox?.

In the US there hasn't been a PlayStation (2D) Worms since World Party on the PS1! (Please correct me if I'm wrong so I can buy it!) I've been going through Worms 2D withdrawl since I got rid of my Dreamcast! :(

The new DS Worms looks awesome but its just not the same as playing it on the big screen with 3 or 4 friends!

very few people have bothered to get a ps3 so it probably wouldn't be worth anyones time releasing it on that platform.

Okay, really. Worms (2D) has definitely got to hit the PS3! Most other systems will enjoy the wormage. Those of us only purchasing the PS3 (and certainly Lemmings along with it), heartily request Worms for our console. Please don't abandon us. Lemmings looks so cool, but nothing is as cool as Worms. You all know that.

Really, you'd be much better off begging to THQ rather than Team17. The publisher usually gets more of the option on what games they should make than the developer.

In the UK, and in the US too I expect, commas are sometimes positioned at every three digits. For example, seventy-two thousand eight-hundred and fifty four would look like 72,854. One-million nine-hundred-and-six-thousand two-hundred and fourty-two would be 1,906,242.

Hello! I'm not around here very often. It was just to look if some version of Worms is in development for the ps3. The old 2D versions were some of the greatest games in history. It was the most fun you can have, if you play with a party of 3 or 4 friends. I would also love to see a new 2D version for the ps3. To play it online would be heaven!!!

Like others, I have been playing worms since the 1st one came out on the Amiga. I would LOVE to see a 2D version of the classic re-made for PS3! As people have said before, PSN would be an ideal platform to release it on!

XBLA Worms was basically a beefed up version of Open Warfare 1 with better controls, online and HD graphics. I am hoping that if a new Worms game is released on the PSN (or XBLA) it is like Open Warfare 2, with the tweaks they gave the original on XBLA. That would be rad.

Squirminator2k
23 Apr 2008, 17:29
At the end of 2007, I think. I'm fairly confident that almost none of the "current" models support backwards compatibility, certainly not in the US at least. European models are different, as the back-comp was handled differently.

I thought that the 40GB ones had no PS2 compatibility, the PS1 compatibility is unaffected. I don't have a 40GB one to verify that, but someone told me that theirs played PS1 games fine. Note sure about the US, but I would assume it's the same story, only that your original release had even better compatibility than our 60GB version.

Wormetti
24 Apr 2008, 08:16
All PS3s have PS1 compatibilty but some are missing PS2 compatibility. PS1 WA is better than nothing but it's not the best the PS3 could do. A native PS3 WA would be best but the PS3 might even be able to run the Windows WA on an X86 emulator running on Linux.

Muzer
24 Apr 2008, 17:11
Yeah, is there a version of wine for ppc?

quakerworm
25 Apr 2008, 09:19
Yeah, is there a version of wine for ppc?
no, of course not. wine only intercepts system and dx calls. it doesn't interpret instructions. it leaves your x86 cpu to process the instructions as they come in. if you run it on ppc, you are stuck, because the instructions are still in x86.

you could run a virtual pc, of course. i think there is something for ppc already for emulating x86. you could simply install windows on top of that. it would probably have to be w95 or w98 for the system to be able to handle it. i'm almost positive that you could get w2 to run under ps3 Linux this way. wa might prove to be a little more difficult, though.

try searching for 'emulating x86 on ps3' or something along these lines. there are probably articles on it already.

they might as well port psp wow2. i have a feeling that psp os environment has more similarities with ps3 than windows-like environment of the 360. and seeing how wow->wxbla was already a mips->ppc port, that part shouldn't create any extra difficulties. engine is the same for both, after all.

or just get an old machine for dirt cheap and hook it up to that screen. you don't need a lot of hardware to run wa on 1920x1080. in fact, i'm pretty sure that pII under w98 will do just fine, and machines like these get thrown out all the time simply because they can't run "latest and greatest".

My first computer was a P-II with Win98, and it'd only just about run WA with the graphic detail set to Minimum. So if it were me, I'd bump those stats up., Besides, why set up a basic PC jsut to play WA when you could go the Whole Hog™ and be able to play games like Portal, Bioshock, CivIV, Trackmania Nations Forever, Team Fortress 2 and UT3 from the comfort of my living room?

quakerworm
7 Jul 2008, 18:10
i was able to run wa on 133mhz pentium, but yeah, just barely. maybe i'm also underestimating the clocks that all the new features, like recording games, improved graphics, etc take up. i've done the above back in '99.

the point stands, however, that you don't need anything close to a top of the line just for wa. pcs that will do get discarded by universities and businesses, and you can often pick them up for free.

as for playing new games, valid point. that's actually what i did. my setup is a 42" 1080p lcd display hooked up to the ps3 and a high end pc. great with flight sims, and works well with everything else too.

what i mostly disagree on is getting a pc marketed as a media pc. odds are, you are overpaying for a gimmick. personally, i'm still a fan of building your own machine. if you are a real nerd, think of it as building your own light saber. otherwise, just consider the savings. and it really isn't that time consuming. this is the first machine i've put together completely from scratch, and it took me only a few hours to get it up and running, despite some hiccups with raid5.

but even if you are really scared of touching the insides of a pc or you are so busy that you can't even spare a few hours for the task, buy a regular pc. there is no need to get a media pc, when you can get all of the functionality for less.

Squirminator2k
7 Jul 2008, 18:40
Building your own PC is more like building your own car - sure, it's doable, but not everyone has the knowledge or expertise to do so, and it's often easier to walk into a showroom and pay a little extra for one that's not long off of the construction line. I have enough knowledge to get by replacing components but I couldn't build a PC from scratch. I don't know many people who could... your average gamer can't.

quakerworm
7 Jul 2008, 19:09
modern pc has relatively few parts, and most of them fit only one way. there are a bunch of wires, but again, they fit only the right way. you have to be extremely careful while reading and following instructions that have to do with the cpu, and make sure you put memory into right slots. everything else is a trivial monkey task of searching for slots that things fit into until you run out of slots or things to put into them.

the non-trivial bit is getting the parts. but here, if you don't know, you can simply ask. you can get help with part compatibility on most forums. once you know what parts to buy, order them on-line from a reliable vendor, and then put them together while following detailed instructions.

just a few years ago, putting together a pc meant looking for a right pair among dozens of almost identical pins to attach a cable or put a jumper across, rinse, repeat. that's assuming you could understand the manual. this mostly isn't the case anymore. not being an idiot and reading instructions are still requirements, but you really don't need a whole lot of experience. if you can swap an optical drive or a graphics card, you can build your own pc.

Squirminator2k
7 Jul 2008, 19:23
if you can swap an optical drive or a graphics card, you can build your own pc.

I dispute this, largely because I've seen people who can swap out drives and cards and such try to build their own PCs and fail miserably. So... y'know... you're wrong.
there are things you can break. if you begin the project with the 'who needs the manual' attitude, you will. i bet these people were of that sort. because other than cpu installation, i can't see how a blind monkey with arthritis couldn't get it done. that, or they started with bad parts to begin with.

another option i'd suggest is looking for someone who knows how to do it. personally, i'd help out a friend. or if there is a case of beer in it, a friend of a friend. have done so in the past. no complaints yet.

well, at any rate, i mostly don't see a point on spending money on a media pc where regular pc will do fine. if you really have to buy one, just buy a normal pc, and make sure that your flatscreen and that pc will interconnect.

most cards since roughly gf4xxx era have dvi output, and most flat screens will take either dvi or hdmi. the later will work with dvi via adapter cable that costs the same as normal dvi cable. alternatively, majority of flat panels have vga input. so the odds of your screen and your pc being incompatible are slim. of course, it doesn't hurt to check in advance. dvi->hdmi would be my first choice if there are options.

in addition to that, if you want to use that pc as a dvr, you'll want to throw in an hd tunner card. these usually come with all the software you'll ever need to turn your pc into a true media center. make sure you have a lot of hdd space. raid5 is great if you can get a pc that supports it.

on the final note, for not so computer-savvy people, yes, i know that there are cheap media pcs out there. problem is, they are typically aren't all that great for gaming. if games in hd is what you are after, you should start with a solid gaming machine, and then add extra media capabilities if you want them.

final note, best and newest usually costs twice as much as marginally older hardware, while making almost no difference in performance. especially, if your system bottlenecks elsewhere on cheaper hardware. unless you have no budget restrains, shop wisely. ask people for advice, etc.

Building your own PC is more like building your own car

Hahaha, no. I've built my latest PC from scratch with the added factor that it was more a mod; I also built the case from scratch. And even though I worked a year on it, it is still a far cry from building your own car. Faaar far cry. A better analogy would probably be an Ikea closet. You can't do anything wrong if you follow the manual. I didn't have any expertese when I built my first PC, I just followed the manual. :)

Even following the instructions, there are still things that can go wrong with building a PC. It's more like baking a cake - you can follow the recipe to the letter, but that won't necessary leave you with something delicious and moist.

quakerworm
12 Jul 2008, 21:45
that is true. things can go wrong. but that is true of almost anything. yes, there is less hassle with warranties if you buy a full pc and it doesn't work right. with building your own pc there is a danger of doing something that won't even be covered by warranty. but for the most part, if you follow instructions, you'll get a working machine.

and i think ikea closet is still a fair analogy. it might be a little more complicated with a pc, but you can screw either one up, and the odds of you screwing it up increase dramatically if you don't follow instructions.

Okay, I just joined this board only to share my point of view.

1. I used to play "worms world party" on my old PC.
2. I love "Worms 4 Mayhem" on my PS2.

The problem is now:
1. My PC is broken and I'll never want to work with any windows-crap anymore (I'm a proud Mac-user)
2. I still have a PS2 with "Worms 4 Mayhem"... But unfortunately I don't have an upscaler to improve the picture to display the quality I am used to from the PS3 on my 94cm-Plasma.

Worms4Mayhem (or at least a 2D-Network-version) would fit perfectly into the whole minigames-collection in the Playstation-store.

So you don't want Worms 4: Mayhem at all, then. You want a PS3 port of Worms Open Warfare 2.

I agree considering the 360 version is really just open warfare part one. entertaining but not enough. at the minimum, they should give the PS3 owners a port of Open Warfare two or better yet WWP. I do certainly hope we get one. If so, I don't think I'd ever play anything else!

Worms on PS3 would actually be quite good. I don't think it should be a ported version of the X360 Live arcade game though.:-/

Squirminator2k
4 Aug 2008, 19:03
If you want to play WWP on your PS3 you should buy the PSone version. At this stage it's incredibly unlikely we'll see new ports of any of the older games. We might see a PS3 port of Worms Open Warfare 2, but given that the PSP version was inferior to the DS version of the game I don't think I'd get particularly excited about that.

I have a the 40gb model and the newer models coming out have the same functionality. they do play PSone games. I was playing FFVII the other day. One thing, although no big deal really, is that while you can create the virtual PSone memory cards....you can for PS2 cards as well even though the system doesn't play the PS2 games. Figured they would just remove the option.

Nope. Sony stripped it out of the more recent models.

I can't stand anyone that says anything good about Microsoft (or IE, for that matter), let's all hate Microsoft because they tried to be competitive, sometimes borderline against companies which are not exactly struggling to feed their families. **** Microsoft, I will use their OS, their applications and take up with their **** because frankly, I'm too retarded to get myself to use anything else more sophisticated and supposedly better, but **** them nevertheless. **** them because they put a computer in every home. **** them for making Halo, a game which Americans can understand. **** them for making a console that's actually good, who do they think they are entering the console market like this? Chelsea? And last but not least, **** Microsoft Vista, fancy graphics are not enough to buy me, *runs to use his fancy 3D cube desktop in Ubuntu* now this is an OS I can have fun with, *boots up wine*.

I would love to know how Xbox does just the same that someone else did before too.

I don't remember seamless viewing your online friends, chatting to them, achievments, and many more things all while being able to swap between games, watch a movie, download a new game, etc. The new dashboard coming lets you do even MORE stuff without leaving your game, so its far from a copycat console.

Its far more the PS3 that has only a handful of new "useful" stuff compared to PS2 (yes I mean GAMING related functionality), bearing in mind I own one and am constantly frustrated at how primitive it feels compared to the Xbox when I want to do something and realise it wont let me. If the PS3 did not play Blu-ray movies I would never have been able to rationalise buying it in the first place at its price. But I digress....

Of course it will end in 2012. You learn that at school, it's 1st grade stuff man.
It will end because of a black hole generated inside the Large Hadron Collider, which is actually an ancient mayan design that was built by the illuminati for the purpose of destroying the world. The reason the US government(who is controlled by the illuminati) destroyed the twin towers was because of this. They wanted to wage war because war=money, and they needed more money to complete the LHC, which was far more expensive than they say it was. The twin towers incident was a perfect excuse to wage war. Why do you think we're on economic crisis? All the money went there! Also Obama is a decoy to distract people from this.

And, why do they want to destroy the world? Well, the answer is simple: Their leader is none other than Xenu, who has actually escaped his prison about 50 years ago., and he wants REVENGE.

Holy Hand Grenade confirmed (http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/27/worms-psn-holy-hand-grenade-confirmed/)

“We can confirm, before we’re besieged, that Worms PSN does have the Holy Hand Grenade,” said Brown.

The PS3 version’s essentially a bumped out take on the current XBLA title.

“Worms PSN is… a larger, honed edition of the very successful XBLA game,” Brown added.

“It has additional weapons, features, more levels, more audio (no size limitations) options, runs in 1080p and plays very sweetly.

“We hope that will be out there sooner rather than later and will support soon with videos and full detail.”

There’s no date on the PS3 title as yet

Ya know, I would be agreeing with you if not for how fun W:OW2 was with just four worms per team. Having the option would be great; it's just not the most important thing to me. The improved physics engine seems like the biggest selling point by far, but I would even put fixing the usage of the "NOOOO!" voice above having large/numerous teams.

I agree with you there. The incorrect use of some of the speech was anoying.

The reason I hope the go back to to 8/6 though, is the PS3 can easily handle that and have massive landscapes to go with it. But even before W:OW and W:OW2 there was decreased counts. Some people like having those "epic" scale battles created by large numbers of worms and teams, and I think the main reasons that W:OW didn't have 8/6 was hardware limits, and that would have slowed down gameplay on a system generaly meant to have pick up and play and more action in the games to keep people entertained on the go. But on the PS3 people will "most likley" be in the living rooms and fine with the longer wait for their turn.

Keep in mind that the PSP is significantly more powerful than the PS1, and the DS version of Worms used simple 2D sprites. I doubt hardware limitations are much of an issue on either console, and even if that had been the case, they could simply have limited teams of eight to two or three teams.

But yeah, it would be very nice if the option to use teams of eight is available, especially in multiplayer. My point is that I won't be complaining even with 4/4 teams. :P

Confirmed, not date as yet. We've not done any official "reveal".

No size limitation means more content than XBLA and it looks/plays sweet.

Bigger news further into the year.
You know, if you need a US beta tester for any reason, my PS3 (and 1080p 40" TV, and Dolby/DTS 5.1 sounds system, and 802.11g network connection) are at your disposal.

(Yes, I know consoles don't need betas the same way PC games do...darnit)

a french msg will follow because im french and im really bether in my lnaguage :-p

i had buy 3 days ago and i really like it but a little bit desapointed
its really fun the 2D worms with the essancial and HD !

but not a lot of weapons (15-20) but the good ones (cows, grand mother, fire raid and a lot more) are not there. no fire effect to.(donkey, rocket raid, baseball, bananas, "the alléluya" grenade, sheeps, kamikaze, proud, wall construction, rope, jetpack, and all stock weapons are there.

the game play is exacly the same and its why i love it. i prefer the 2d over the 3d. online is ok too but i have a little problem:

i have a friend who had buy to the game to play with me but we cannot go on the same game. in private game we cannot join the other and if we join the same public game it will crash and freezw the ps3 for the 2 and we need to turn off switch of the ps3...

i hope i will find a solution for it or maybe it will be solve on future updates...

It's a bit unfortunate that the XBLA version of Worms (not W2:A) is nowhere near as good and complete as the PSN version. Of course, I own both, but still unfortunate. :)

That's a bit like saying how disappointed you are that the Amiga version of Worms is nowhere near as good and complete as the PC version of Worms United.

Having bought the available Playstation 3 version I, must say it's the most anticlimactic Worms purchase ever. It's the most cut-down budget version of the game ever, save the mobile versions.
But that's that I guess. I won't keep my hopes up, that the 'actual' game will ever make it when it hasn't already.

Owning all 2D Worms for PC, though, it's a real hit to the groin that W2:A is not even available for the mother-platform.

I'm disappointed and appalled, Team 17 :(

Yeah, a CD32 release is long overdue!

Speaking of the current PS3 version, I found the new physics pretty fun to play with. If a worm or grenade is entering a curvy slope at high speed, it kinda swoops onwards in the direction of the curve (rather than just stopping from friction).
I don't remember this from WA/WWP? Or am I remembering wrong?

As I understand it, they're working towards not including it in W2:A in favor of the old W:A physics engine?
Or has the original W:A physics engine been updated too since release?

I've tried googling and browsing these forums, but I can't seem to find heads or tales in all the different physics versions...

So you want Worms 2 Armageddon in its current state? let them fix the bugs first :/

Malmer
2 Sep 2009, 07:45
No. And don't try twisting this one out of context.

The "current state" would be done if they'd been prioritizing the PC version as high as the Live version from the get go. But they didn't.

Funnily enough, somebody just made a module for Worms Armageddon that makes this change to the physics.
Small world, really.

Malmer

That sounds awesome robowurmz. I just installed Armageddon yesterday after years of lying in the basement. Updated it to 3.6.28.0 to see what's new.

I'll look for this mod when I get home.

But if you could direct to the module it would be awesome, this way I won't end up installing the wrong one.

EDIT: Just to be sure: is it RubberWorm, robowurmz?

robowurmz

Yes, it's the RubberWorm alpha: the normal RubberWorm doesn't have this feature, but has loads of other ones.

I'll be sure to check it out!

I fooled around a little bit with the regular RubberWorms in the meantime, but it's not yet bug free enough for my friend and I to enjoy it. Mines would usually keep rotating and prevent the match from progressing.

robowurmz

Yes, I find that to be a problem too.
Not to worry, he says it will be bug-free upon the next release of RubberWorm.

I was a massive PS1 worms fan. Have grown old and now have a PS3 and could not resist the pull of a PS3 version. But omg, what has happenned? It could be so much better, can you guys not just convert the original graphics and leave it be? It's cheap and the gameplay is flawed.

Where bungy gone?
Why is the homing missile different?

Landscapes are nowhere near as good, but in HD?

Come on guys, there's a huge market out there, make it worth my while next time...

lets get back to basics with this thread...

what about worms 4 on PSN or LIVE? someone know if this will happen one day? I know that is a lot of 2D worms fans out there that are happy with those worms and worms 2 armaggedon on those plataforms, but come on! I think that like me there are a lot of fans of the 3D worms (like worms 4mayhem) that feels abandoned in this new gen of gaming. Would be veeery nice to buy Worms4 from PSN or LIVE to play with my friends like we use to do on PC and PS2.

some on with me???
