The original Worms was a unique take on strategy games that turned out to be a quirky good time. But since then the series has released game after game of mediocre experiments. "Let's take the series 3D!" (Worms 3D) "Let's turn it into a Bust-a-Move clone!" (Worms Blast) "Let's put a colon after the title and throw in some totally Xtreme words!" (Worms: Armageddon, Worms 4: Mayhem, Worms Forts: Under Siege) The Worms series just doesn't have any backbone anymore.
Wait, what? I never really trusted IGN but, wow, saying Armageddon, which should be the example of an innovative sequel, is "jumping the shark" is just... no. I sort of agree with the others, though.

I just e-mailed the editors to get their facts right. Officially WA doesn't have a colon in the name. Just for some strange reason people have forced one in.

See? No colon.

On the box as well. No colon. In game. No colon.

There are very few games that officially do. People add them to make the game title clearer. I don't think WA really needs one, but without one, "Worms 4 Mayhem" sort of sounds like a pretty stupid campaign group.

Can't help but agree about the series in the number 1 slot *shakes head sadly*

Don't forget the fun that can be had by saying "Worms Colon Armageddon" or "Worms 4 Colon Mayhem"...

I guessed what that would be before I even looked at it.

And they can say what they want, but I still want to play Worms 4.

Surely if they mention Worms for just adding a word to make it sound more interesting then they should mention Mario for the countless sports/Mario Party games :p

But those were great games.

At least "Worms" only got last place.
I already predicted Sonic would reach number one on the list. :-/

Well yeah, but Armageddon was just Worms 2 with some different weapons and some missions. The core gameplay didn't change. Mario turned into a driving game, a tennis game, a golf game, and a party game, and still periodically put out great platformers (and Sunshine). That's keeping a series well and truly alive.

It helps that Mario is a character and a well-populated world that you can drop pretty well into any game. Worms is a game which has some IP almost by necessity, so it's much harder to keep that diverse, especially without making people cross.

Ah, fair enough.

I fail at games arguments :(

There has always been Worms haters. Worms really does require a special kind of audience.
