View Full Version : Replay recording making game stutter?

In 3.6.26.5, during gameplay, the game intermittently stalls for a half a second and then resumes. It happens often (every 5 to 10 seconds), whether i'm moving or not. It makes roping very difficult.

3.5 runs smoothly. When I am watching a replay of 3.6.26.5, there is no stalling. In both situations, no replay is being recorded.

I'm using a laptop with an 80GB WD 5400rpm HD and it's long overdue for a defrag. It has 512MB of RAM but the Radeon IGP320M video card is using 64MB of that, so there's only 448MB available. I have the same problem with XP SP1 and SP2. I tried running WA from another partition (same drive) that had less fragmentation but WA still had the same stuttering problem.

SlowFrontendWorkaround and TimerWorkaround make no obvious difference, the frontend is never slow.

I'll try running the game from a RAM drive, another HD or eventually a fresh install of Windows. If I could turn off the replay feature, I would be able to tell if that is actually the cause of the stuttering. If the replay writing can be optimized, delayed or cached in a future version that could help.
