Check back to the site and read the tutorials about firewalls, ports, routers, portforwarding.

Right all the stuff that it says about routers makes no sence to me what so ever... and my stepdad would kill me if i start messing with it.

According to my stepdad I shouldn't have to fidget with anything if I'm just playing online... Only if I wanted to host.

Ask him to forward ports 6667 and 17011 to your computer

There won't be one.
If you lock the door to your house, no guests will be able to come in to your birthday party, will they?

And he's absolutely right.

As long as you don't host games, you can play without needing to do anything with your router.

But you might still need to allow WA to send outgoing traffic, which is a firewall issue if you really experience one.

Anyway, what does prevent you from playing online ? What is currently happening ?

I dunno if Worms Armageddon will permit me to run such software but it'll try running camtasia to show you what I see. --- This post will be edited with an attachment (Should that be possible)

Oh Great Camtasia's now copping out on me... That's just great.

Ok Here's my actions.

Start/All Programs/Team17/Worms Armageddon.exe
Main Menu - > Networking
Right Button under text that says "WormNet"
Server 1 in Yorkshire
Log in with something random like "Username Suterusu Password Undisclosed"
Unable to Connect to server, Please try another server (BUT THERE'S ONLY ONE)

I must remember this game started in 1998 so any possible way of securing what I want is to ask someone who stayed on it so long.

Right if you can help thanks... if not well thanks anyway.

If you have a firewall running go to its program control options and allow wa.exe.

I'll work it out myself as the correct ports dosn't seem to want to help it... nor does using 3rd party software.

From the official FAQ:
- 7.6 Port information for network connection via firewalls
To ensure successful usage your machine requires outgoing connections on TCP ports 80 and 6667, as well as on TCP ports 17010, 17011 and 17012. If you want to be able to host a game you will have to redirect incoming packets on the TCP ports to your machine.

To play only... Just 80 and 6667? Does this involve the proxy settings?

I'll need complete walkthroughs as most of the information I havn't had the time nor pacience to learn.

Do I need a code before it so it's recognised?

You mean the 192.168... business? That's sometimes different with different models. Find the manual to your linksys router (or look for labels on the router itself) - that should tell you what it is.

I would but it's not mine... My stepdad runs that... I'll see what I can do from here... thanks

I guess it likes to read it with http:// on the front... It's working... I'll speak to my stepdad about accessing the router remotely.

Stop quoting that, it's just plain wrong. I've explained so many numerous times that ports 17010 and 17012 are not used for online play, and to be able to host you only need to forward (redirect incoming packets on) the port 17011.

Anyway, what's most likely happening that your outgoing port 6667 is blocked - this may be done as part of some content filtering. Randomly messing around with the router probably won't fix anything - the instructions Run has linked to are to make you able to host, which is pointless if you can't connect to WormNET in the first place.

Try running the following command in a command prompt (to open one, go to Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> Command prompt):

telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667

You should either get a blank screen (it works) or get an error message (it doesn't work).

Let us know of the result.

I do apologise for being a pain... If I was an admin I'd do it myself. I need my stepdad's access codes to remote access the router.

Edit: Connecting To wormnet1.team17.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port 6667: Connect failed.

Meaning???

I need to open port 6667, I guess

That particular comment wasn't aimed towards you - it's just that Run and bonz were a bit misleading with their advice.

You are unable to access the IRC part of WormNET. This is probably because access to IRC networks has been blocked by your network's administrator (IRC is often considered as a potential negative influence for the younger minds). You will have to explain to your administrator that WormNET (the online play service for W:A) is based on IRC, and ask him to add wormnet1.team17.com as an exception to the blocked IRC servers.

I'll look into that.

Edit: My stepdad's doing that... Thanks for everything...

Well, the router tutorial includes both 6667 and 17011 :P It's basically the same steps with a different number

Which is utterly pointless I might add, unless you're running your own IRC or WormNET server...

Just remove anything related to ports 6667 and 80 for now.
Port 6667 is used for IRC; incoming connections to this port would only be useful if you ran a WormNET or IRC server.
Port 80 is used for HTTP (which is used for web-sites). Incoming connections to this port would only be useful if you ran a WormNET or HTTP server (a website on your own computer).
I've stated in my first post in this thread that "to be able to host, you only need to forward (redirect incoming packets on) the port 17011". What's unclear about that?

The problem Suterusu has encountered was that his computer was unable to make outgoing connections on port 6667. A lot of people think that incoming and outgoing connections are the same thing, and think that it can be solved just by "opening some ports" (which by itself is ambiguous).
