I have a problem i never encountered before, wwp crashes when i start a game: online or single. It works perfectly in the menus but when i click start the game everything is black, I still hear sounds, and if i press space I hear the zook sound. So it is clearly just a video problem, but with the same configuration half an year ago it worked perfectly.
I tried reinstalling it in different locations of my hard, but nothing has worked. I tried it with the service pack provided on the t17 down section, and without it, same problem.

I have a g-force 5900xt (i have it for over 1 year).

A common problem. Worms runs using a palette that uses 256 colours. Some other program is running, and using up that palette, therefore, there are no colours left for WWP to use, so your screen is black.

Is the loading screen pink with a black box in the middle? Because that's what happened to me.
Why the front-end menu works I have no idea.

Here are some possible ways to solve it that have been suggested before:
1. Right click the .exe file, go to properties, and select run in 256 colours. It doesn't make much difference, but may get some of the colours back. It partially worked for me.
2. Close down as many other programs that you can ie. everything but anti-virus software. Never close that.
3. NEVER use GIMP or photoshop etc. before playing WWP. These programs are pallette-hungry, and the only solution then would be to restart the computer.

If it's worked before, then chances are that you've installed and are using something that you didn't before. Maybe MSN is running in the background (remember that it is always on unless you close it manually by clicking on it's icon in your taskbar.)

Unfortunately for me, WWP works less often than not, so I now only play W:A, which has had these problems patched. And no, WWP won't be getting the same treatment, before you ask.

If anybody here has better solutions, or I'm wrong, then please correct me.

Yeah, I have a pink box in the middle when it loads.
And I am using yahoo messenger and msn messenger, but I kinda need them, cause I chat with my mates, and in msn I can even ppl to play with me cbs.

I am a WA player, and I enjoy a lot playing wa, but from time to time, i really would like to join some games in wwp, too.

Later edit: After closing Yahoo Messenger, my worms started working just fine, thanks a lot for the tip.

Ok, since you've found the evil-doer, simply search for an "always on top" function (or similar) in Yahoo! Messenger and turn it off.

BTW, I never had a problem with Adobe Photoshop. I can even run it in the background while playing.
