View Full Version : Bug: Desync on network games due to map transfer

I was playing a number of network games today (not WormNET), and I noticed desyncronization, when using an image based map.

For example, I was using the T17Logo map, I got the right map, everyone else got a random one, desynced and resigned.

Worth noting though, all were at same patch (but it did say the Will take advantage message).

I've been getting the Desync error alot today. Not sure if its anything to do with "image based" maps though....

Perhaps different copies of WA have different versions of those .img files, which makes the checksums different, which causes desynchs.

All the same vers, yet it gives the message about using version x enhancements.

reinstall and use the exact same patcher/updater on each pc... as in transfer the patcher/updater over the network and use it on all...

just to eliminate some..gsggew egwqq 2q2qrydrt urdus e wq 2qq yru ddddddddr......................

Yep, that is the cause with a certain German version. It has maps allocated to the wrong missions in single player.
I could imagine that if that happens over a network on one side only, you'd get a desync'.

All are british ones (Sold Out to be precise)

They may have been bought at different times :p

Do they all have the same animation when inserted, cuz I have 2 SOS CDs and one gives an SOS logo with balls going around it on insert, whilst the other gives an advert for MAD4GAMES

All have the ball one.

Well, I have to reinstall Windows on my brothers PC, so I will have to reinstall WA on that, and I can easily on mine to test.

I dunno about everyone else, but when I play WA on the LAN I usually just make an image of the disk using Nero and mount it using Daemon Tools on every PC over the network. The extra bandwidth on the LAN has never caused any problems with the game and it makes 100% sure every game is using identical files. It also saves messing around with multiple CDs and the noise of several CD-ROM drives which is usually considerable especially on modern drives.

AFAIK thats perfectly legal so long as you actually OWN enough original CDs of the game for every PC and considering how cheap the Sold Out version is theres no much reason not to.

'Nuff said.

But lets get back to the main point here...

(I would run all the games on W:A 3.5pre-beta3 or W:A 3.0 with Silkworm, but sadly there is the frontend bug)

Again I had the desync problem yesterday. It happend twice (had to remake the game) when choosing a map from the dropdown. Then I loaded a randomgen one and it worked fine after that, including colour maps... hmm
