That'd be a bit of a bummer, coming from Summer into mid-winter English freezing fog. Winterval?
Don't get me started on that.

UGH.
You aren't in America, so I guess maybe you don't know about the WAR ON CHRISTMAS.

Every pundit on the news arguing about stores that say "Happy holidays" instead of "Merry christmas" in their ads. "DAMN YOU PEOPLE THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED BY JESUS AND GOD AND IF YOU DARE TO UTTER AN ALL-INCLUSIVE GREETING YOU WILL BURN IN THE FIREY PITS OF HELL."
"What? People dying in Darfur? Screw that story, people are saying HAPPY HOLIDAYS over here!"

Please don't bring up those memories. :(

And merry christmas to all and to all a good night.

Well, IMO, it's better to say "happy holidays" than to include every random winter holiday you can think of.

Happy Shabe Yalda, everyone!

Oh wait, that was last night. Darn.

We have PC over here you know, although it tends to be only the more right winged papers like the Mail complaining. In fairness I think most people and pretty much all the shops say Christmas, it's only a few councils who don't here.

So Merry Christmas everyone, and sod anyone who thinks those words don't include people of all religions; they aren't meant to.

Well, the fog's lifted over here in the south at last, don't know about the rest of you.

Have a good Winter's-Depressing-So-Let's-Cheer-It-Up Day.

(Well, if I can call Guy Fawke's Night and Independence Day National-Excuse-To-Set-Off-Fireworks Days...)

Happy Holidays doesn't sound right to me. Speaking as someone from the British state school system, July and August are always the holidays.

I thought it was Happy Holidays in the US because Hanukah (sp) falls around the same time, and there's a larger jewish proportion over there?not just that but we also have to cater to the atheists who don't celebrate anything, the people who celebrate kwanzaa, channukah, yule, and any other conceivable holiday celebration. here in america we understand the need to make every person happy in the most minor of ways instead of focusing our attention on unimportant distractions like war, famine, and the destruction of the planet.

Why don't you just ignore them, say Merry Christmas and have done with it? You don't HAVE to cater to everyone else, I'm sure no one will come knocking to tell you off if you don't.
Frankly, I doubt the people who 'Happy Holidays' is supposed to include actually care at all; here we have lots of Muslims and people of other religions saying the PC people should go away and stop giving them a bad name, as it doesn't offend them in the same way their celebrating their festivals doesn't offend us.

UNMERRY CHRISTMAS AND A CRAPPY NEW YEAR!

A joke I like.I can't be the only person who didn't find that funny at all.

not just that but we also have to cater to the atheists who don't celebrate anythingHang on, hang on.

Just because I'm an atheist, doesn't mean I don't like giving and receiving presents and seeing my friends and family at a time of year when the world could use a little more cheer.

I do get irritated by all the nativity stuff, I'll admit it, but Christmas is just a name when all's said and done, and it does a job.

I was just making a joke of the whole thing :p

It was obvious you weren't being completely serious, but I read your sarcasm in a different way to how you intended I think.
Still, you sounded like you were having a little rant, which is something we do expect of you a lot, even more than joking.
