View Full Version : My Batty Ropes Experience

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to play with a guy who had managed to get hold of the almost-legendary Batty Ropes feature that for years now has set alight rumours about extenisve new game play in the next beta update.
It was quite extraordinary and it altered the classic game of shopping quite a bit. But in a good way. The feature allowed the worms to simply hang from their rope after the turn ended and they would fall if they were knocked hard enough of exploded out of the air. There was also a funny little glitch, possibly present in the game before the feature is added, that meant that if you pressed the up and left arrow keys and space whilst jetpacking with bungee selected you would hang dubiously from the air on a bungee until someone knocked you down, say, with a cleverly steered aqua sheep. ( )
Anyways, I googled batty ropes and the rewards were pretty scant. So how did this guy get his hands on this? Am I, as always, missing a vital piece of information here? Did something happen?

Actually you can do the bungee glitch in the latest beta too but when the turn ends you will fall!
There is one guy called M3ntal,who's the beta tester and has all the funny features before they are official!
Obviously there are some more guys that have the old batty ropes beta but how they could get is unclear!
You can't get it dude untill the new beta patch is released!
We're all waiting for it! xD
Setting alight rumours of extensive fresh gameplay in the next beta update? Must have been me, the one missing out!
Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but I don't find the feature quite as elevating. It's just... worms staying on the rope. It's funny, yes, but I can't imagine vastly popular schemes being created around it. I'm also strongly against it becoming part of already-established schemes, save for perhaps the rarely used limited turn time Rope Race scheme.
And yes, it does come with quite a few bugs and inconsistencies, especially since what you saw was most likely an old leaked version that has been posted on forums and websites over a year ago, and has since been made obsolete by a test version of WA that includes everything it does and quite a bit more. It's not exactly public, this version, but official testers have been showing it to anyone interested on WormNet last I checked. It is, however, by far not the most important feature I would personally like to see in the next update. Hint, hint.
The Bungee-from-Jetpack is indeed a glitch unrelated to Batty. Lovely one, too. Not quite sure I'd like it "fixed".
The vital piece of information you're missing is probably only the fact that the old Batty version people got their hands on was stolen. According to the man whose name is mentioned in the version line. Which is why most people consider it immoral to host it on their websites and post links to it on forums.

Lol, if you hadn't realised by now I have my way with words. I wouldn't take every single one too seriously if I were you.:p

As far as I'm concerned its been completely eradicated from the internet. Going by what you have said the guy I played with must have downloaded it a while back. He didn't sound like an official tester in the least because he told me to "google it or something, thats how I got it".
So, would Batty Ropes and this funny stuff be added in the next version releases?
Regards,
ADX
In one of the upcoming updates, most likely.
As I have pointed out in a post over a year ago (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=411202&postcount=13), batty ropes in conjunction with the sheep-on-a-rope would be a nice feature.
It would practically make it a floating, wooly mine that explodes on touch. :D
I wouldn't hold your breath for any of the new roping features in the next update, in the test versions they are hard-coded and apply all the time. The intention is for them to be a scheme option, so they most likely won't be released until a new scheme format has been designed and made, and as this new scheme format is planned to support a lot of other new features such as those found in The Fiddler this could be a while yet.
The next update should be ready soon though from what i've seen/heard.
Batty ropes is still a buggy feature. M3ntal and I have tested it extensively together, and found a number of strange bugs which would need to be worked out before it and a bunch of other features in teststuff versions are released.
I disagree with Gregor (KRD) in it not having any cool applications. I have thought up a game type called "batty jump race" (Or something to that effect. I made up this name right now.), where you have unlimited select worms and ropes, and 3-8 worms, and you have to use worms other than your first to attach ropes strategically to spots on the ceiling, then use select worm to switch to your first worm, who must use your batty worms to jump up/across places.
Oops. I misinterpreted Gregor's post. Anyway, I think batty races could become popular!

I was dissapointed when i found i couldnt attach my rope to another dangling worm. Now that would be pretty cool.
You can bungee off a dangling worm though ;)
And what ever happened to the "any weapon from rope/chute/whatver" patch?
Please go here
