Whenever I open up My Documents or My Computer and other folders like those, the standard buttons like File, View, Tools, etc., Back/Forward and the address bar aren't there. Here is a screeney. How do I fix it? It's really annoying me.

Would it be a real pain in the bum to use only the explorer?
I, personally, only use only the explorer because of the overview capability and the fact that it's just the same as the other 2 (my docs/my comp) but doesn't have the "show folder tree" setting off.. meaning overview at an instant :)
plus, this overview makes it tons easier to move/tranfer/copy/paste files in different folders far from each other

Looks to me as if your buttons and address bar have been turned off in the Tools>Toolbars menu, but where the main toolbars's vanished to I have no idea. Check your settings, and see if it's been moved elsewhere in the window.

As far as I was aware there's only one explorer.exe

Yeah I know but when I open My Documents and My Computer etc. it has that problem but when I open the actual Windows Explorer.exe from Start Menu\Accessories it has all the buttons there. Strange.

maybe someone could go see if theres a shortcut like [alt]+[F5] or something to open the "Folder Options", form there you can turn the toolbar on and off

That's true, if you go to the explorer with the menu, then to folder options, and untick "remember each folder's options"

That might, hopefully, mean that all the windows are as per default.

What you do is this:

Right Click on the toolbar, to the right of help. Then choose "Standard Buttons". Like this:

(open file with internet explorer or flash player)

No no no. Look at the screenshot. File, Tools, Help etc. buttons aren't there.
Also I looked in folder options. There is nothing there to fix it.

theres a registry hack to make all explorer.exe windows open in dual pane mode... which is what i apply... it just makes it crap loads easier to do everything.

and i see your missing all the tollbars -.- sorry mate but have you tried pressing the alt key then --> ? (not at the same time)

The wierd thing is ALL the toolbars are gone, I suspect a virus. Have you tried to run a virusscan yet?

Does unticking remmebering each folder's settings work though?

Bit sledgehammer, but it'd certainly work.

I had same problem once, long time ago. Dl'ed RegistryHealer ( yes it actually works and isnt just some crappy spyware ), scanned, fixed errors, rebooted, poof everything were fine again :p
Cant still promise it would work for 100% though

I'll try running a full disk scan with my antivirus.

Even if u find viruses and delete them, the problem may still be there, cos if its about registry, deleting viruses wont help it

What av are u using btw ?

I'll try running a full disk scan with my antivirus.

Do that first and if that doesn't fix the problem i'd go with Distrance's solution!

Ran a full disk scan using Symantec AntiVirus and there were no viruses. And I don't like the idea of the registry editing. Could mess some sh*t up.

More than it already is?

Distrance

It doesnt mess anything up, it ' heals ' the registry, meaning removing pointless registry files and fixing the invalid, and also u got backup from every single file so if something happens ( anythin wont happen ) u can always take the original files back to upgrade your pc to back its ****ty condition

I'm no use here, but I would say, check your settings for anything, becasue someone could of been messing around with the settings or do a virus scan, there is a chance it might be a virus EEK!

psh, I still think linux would have done the trick. At least as a dual operating system. Thats what I have. So when windows gets on my nerves, I just turn to linux for a little break.
