View Full Version : WA Crashing?

Dinc

I just installed W:A and updated it to v3.6.26.5. But I can never play a game because it always crashes. Sometimes it crashes when I try to join, others when everyone lights up and it's about to load. Sometimes it says it performed an illegal operation, sometimes it says nothing.

Anyone know what's wrong?

Are you using Windows XP?
If yes, reinstall and try to apply the 3.0.5 patch before updating.

Well right after the install I have 3.6.22.1 - Deadcode Beta 6 Oct 2004 and everything works perfectly except WormNET. When I try to connect, it says Fatal Connection Error, Disconnecting. So I tried to install the newest update and then my game just crashes when I try to load a game or edit a team.

Ya, I'm on Windows XP. Can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

Huh? The version of WA.exe is 3.6.22.1 right after installing the game?

Joeyjoejoe

Yeah that's strange. Here's what you should do. Install WA then navigate to your WA.exe and hover your mouse over it to find out its version. If it says 1.0 then you need to patch it to 3.0, then to 3.6.26.5. If it already says 3.0 then you only need to patch to the latest, 3.6.26.5 (correct me people if I'm wrong).

Maybe he got a pirated iso image which is already updated.
Dinc, are you a pirate?

Damn pirats and their messed up games. (Not saying that you are one).

Off topic but lolz at your avatar evilworm2.

Correction: you don't need to do that manually any more. http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31140

No, lol. If I was a pirate, I could probably just get the newest version and play.

When I hover my mouse over the WA.exe file, it says File Version: 3.6.22.1.

Cyber I tried using the auto-updater thing and it updated everything. But it still crashes when I try to load a game.

I checked out the www.nanacide.com/wahelp site and tried all the solutions but still no luck.

CyberShadow
10 Dec 2006, 19:33
Where did you purchase your game? I am not aware of a legal distribution of W:A which installs version 3.6.22.1 of WA.exe.

Dinc
11 Dec 2006, 04:50
I got it from Wal-Mart.

CyberShadow
11 Dec 2006, 04:55
Can you identify the game distributor or publisher? As in, any other logos (aside the Team17 one) on the box/CD, such as MicroProse, SoldOut, Ubisoft, etc.

Also, it would be helpful if you could post the contents of the CD:\Data\Resource\version.txt file, where CD is your CD-ROM drive letter.

Dinc
12 Dec 2006, 20:49
It say MicroProse on the CD and it shows the logo when it first starts up.

CyberShadow
12 Dec 2006, 20:51
Then it can't be version 3.6.22.1, as no Microprose distribution updates to that version. Check your data.

Dinc
13 Dec 2006, 22:16
Well that really doesn't matter anyway because it works except WormNET. It's when I install the newest patch, I always crash. Any ideas on how to fix that?

you did not buy your game, it is a pirated copy, stop wasting peoples time here, there is NO legit copy of the game being sold thats newer then v3.0.00.0

you have a custom modified copie of the game thats screwed with newer updates.

There is no W:A from Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=2636&search_query=worms&ic=24_0&Continue.x=0&Continue.y=0)
Watching? Banning?

Wal Mart in store != Wal Mart online. Wal Mart sells everything, and has wares from everywhere. Wal Mart is ridiculous and, in some cases, awesome.

pearson
14 Dec 2006, 16:18
that argument is invalid. I've seen copies of Sonic R (1999) and Sonic CD (1996) at Wal Mart, Best Buy, Circuit city all recently. Still doesn't explain the update, as even my SoldOut copy is 3.0

Still, it seems like every assistance topic on the first page, the poster is accused of being a pirate.

CyberShadow
14 Dec 2006, 16:31
Well I still didn't get the information I requested. The CD:\Data\Resource\version.txt file contains the exact version of the CD distribution, which allows to identify the CD in question. Dinc ignored my request, which may mean that he doesn't own a CD to begin with - he might have downloaded a cracked version of the 3.6.22.1 EXE, which of course didn't work after he tried to install the update.

If Dinc does own a copy of the game on a CD, then either he is confusing something and unwillingly misinforming us, or he is using a W:A CD we have never heard of before.

Ok well things are strange so reinstall worms without patching/updating it and then tell us what version of worms you see again.

Dinc, please post a full file listing of the CD. To do that:

Open up a command prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
Type your CD drive letter, including the colon (example: D:) and press Enter
Type dir /S>C:\dir.txt and press Enter
Type notepad C:\dir.txt and press Enter
Copy the contents of that file and upload it to a free pastebin (e.g. PrivatePaste.com (http://privatepaste.com/))
Post the link here

Seems to be a phantom publisher that releases old T17 games with the latest updates.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Windows XP compatible version of Worms DC! :D

The file list posted above is exactly the file listing from a regular W:A US CD - except all the file dates are set to April 17th, 2005. I don't know how Dinc acquired the CD that listing was taken off, however it is certain that it isn't the mysterious 3.6.22.1 CD Dinc supposedly had. Even version.txt is 17 bytes long, while its "contents" which was pasted a few posts above clearly doesn't fit in 17 bytes.

Therefore, Dinc is lying and is most likely using an illegal copy (or copies) of the game.

Dinc, don't be a sore pirate. Buy the game (https://secure.team17.com/browse.html?area=search&keyword=Armageddon)! :) There are many benefits to having an original copy of the game, a few of which are: the respect of your fellow wormers, the ease of explaining yourself in strange situations like this, and contribution to the company which is making all this happen. :) Besides that, it's also illegal to have an illegal copy of the game, of course. I'm sure the mods would be lenient if you confessed that you had an illegal copy, but you have just purchased a legal copy online from the Team17 shop, and are expecting it in the mail. This could be a good Christmas present to yourself, and to Team17! Oh, besides all that, Worms Armageddon is extremely inexpensive, and you can get a pack which includes Worms World Party and Worms 2 for a very low price also.

Not to mention it's such a cheap game now...

What I find funny is that in threads (in all game forums) that have a Group A saying "he obviously have a pirate copy" and a Group B saying "you don't know that, he might just be having some obscure problems", Group A is right 99% of the time....

Another intriguing hint for the pirate theory is that the latest no-CD crack for the beta updates I could find is 3.6.22.1 (on ***.com at least).

Nice pointing out whete to download a W:A crack, bonz. ;)

There are no-CDs for newer versions anyway, they just haven't spread out yet.

I think this discussion is going to get this thread locked. :P

*dances in locked thread*

Just out of interest, why would you need a No-CD crack for a game like this? Most people use Virtual Images anyway...

franpa
17 Dec 2006, 12:57
a no-cd would use less space then a) installing the game and b) having the image of the disc reside on your hdd.

Whoa there. Let's just cut off that line of thinking right now. We don't want pirates doing things that actually make sense.
