Even if it's PC only a compilation featuring all the worms games would be great.
I'm sure they could all fit on a DVD9 easily, the way they fit every Command &
Conquer game on one (for it's 10th anniversary compilation), and also optimise
the earlier games to run in windows xp.

Worms
Worms Reinforcements
Worms Directors Cut
Worms 2
Worms Armageddon
Worms World Party
Worms 3D
Worms Forts
Worms 4 Mayhem

How sweet would that be? I'd pay £39.99 for that!!!!
(some developer video interviews would top it off nicely)

Ohhh, that would be pretty cool. I dunno if Team17 is the kind of company that can actually afford making such a big compilation, but they are getting pretty common lately, and Worms' 12th anniversary is next year. Throw in all the games, some wacky extras (Team17 Beer Garden!), and you've got it made.

I don't know if they could port Worms Directors Cut to the PC (though if they would, that would probably be a HUGE selling point for hardcore fans) but even so, all the other games probably aren't too hard to stick in one big package. Specially if they didn't go "the cheap way" (simply sticking in DOSBox to run the older games :p) and actually update the titles for newer systems. Or do console ports of the compilations.

some wacky extras

the perfect extra could be that playable version of worms battle races or something like that.

It would be nice, but since there were so many different publishers involved, I doubt it's going to happen.

I think they managed a compilation of Worms 2, Armageddon and World Party a while back though.

Surely Team17 would still retain the right to re-release them... well, I know nothing about publisher rights and that stuff really. Maybe it's just wishfull thinking. I used to own all the 2D worms games at one point of another, but I sold all my (70+) PC games recently to clear some space.

Anyone at T17 think this would be a good, or even a do-able, idea (even just for the 2D worms games)??

Well, you couldn't stick WDC in there unless you got permission from Cloanto to include their emulation software, which would put the price right up :(

Alos, since W4M fills up a DVD, and W3D fills up 3? CDs, you couldn't fit it onto one DVD (or is a DVD9 different?), but you could possibly fit it onto 2 DVDs, and maybe even 3 DVDs.

By the way, you missed 2 spin-offs: Worms Pinball (The one included with the next game to be mentioned), and Worms Blast.

And yes, DVD9's have twice the capacity of a regular DVD, since they're double-layered. So... 9GB*.
Plus games rarely fill up discs 100%. A game in a CD could be anywhere from 1.5mb* to 700mb*, and a game in a DVD could be anywheere from 700mb* to 4.5GB*. And some games could probably reuse stuff (W1/WR, W:A/WWP). And there's compression. Etc.
After all, the entire C&C series would be 17CDs in their original packaging, and EA still fit it all in one DVD.

IIRC, W4 had about 2Gb. I think so, anyway.
And besides, if there isn't enough room on the disc, you can simply have two.

Shove it all on a Blu-ray and wait longingly for the day when you can get blu-ray drives fitted for computers.

Concidering that Microprose no longer exist

Which would bring the price right up. Besides, if it came on Blu-Ray, there would be NO WAY I would get it. I seriously hate Blu-Ray (and everything else that Sony made for that matter (Surley you remember what happened to Betamax, Minidisk and SACD, all of them were Sony and died)).

>> Edit:

Plus, there would be no point including WA unless 4.0 comes out. Then again, who know what Deadcode might be doing, there has been no updates since Jan. Mabye he is working to get 4.0 out for the worms anniversary. Or mabye he just doesn't have the time. Who knows =)

I remember that broadcasters like the BBC carried on using betamax for years (due to it's higher quality), and everyone I know had minidisc players in the 90's. No format can last forever.

As for blu-ray... 50 gigs of space on one disc? bring it on!

How can anyone 'hate' a new format of disc anyway?

sony haters  *sigh*

I dont understand why anyone would WANT a compilation.

WA and WWP are almost identical. Worms 4 automatically kicks Worms 3Ds **** (according to Spadge). Many of the Worms games are far too similar to each other so why would you need them all?

Theres only 1 Worms game I ever play on, WA. At best that will increase to 2, because it will be easier to lounge back in my chair playing Worms on Xbox 360 and it will actually be fun to play online which WA sadly is not.

How many people can there be who plays more than 1 Worms game?

I play all the differnet worms games for a veriaty. Worms united has great missions to play. Directors cut has some fun weapons like the sheep on the rope which the others dont. Worms 2 is quicker to play with against friends in my opinion because of the front end with lots of custom options to set. WA has lots to do in single player mode and lots to unlock. WWP has the worm pot which can breath new life into the games. Worms 3d has the best missions in all the 3d worms series in my opinion because they are pretty challenging. Worms forts is a great new way to play the worms games. Worms 4 is a good 3d worms game to play with friends because of how simple it is to play. Then you have worms pinball (or addiction pinball if you play it on the pc) which is pretty fun here and there and worms blast is best played with two controllers and friends I think. So after all that rambling, I hope I managed to get my point across on how it is good to have them all. Gotta catch them all!

yes, you are. dc port = not going to happen. it would be easier to write it from scratch.

There are no plans for this. We've done various compilations over the years and there are several still available if you scratch around long enough. We do own all the rights, obviously.

With Vista/XP around we want to smooth out the experience too. I'm not 100% sure how really appealling that kind of compilation would be and it'd take a lot of effort to package all that stuff up, make it all work together and as people say, you're likely to stick with 1, maybe 2 of the games as your favourite.

With digital distribution coming up (XBLA is an example) then we have a wider range of opportunity to facilitate choice and delivery at a lower cost, although boxed retail hasn't disappeared entirely yet.

I guess if you think about it, the only people who would really buy a compliation of all the worms games, would be die hard worms fans. Perhaps just a team 17 classics compliation with games such as alien breed, superfrog, night long, stunt gp, and WA all compatible with xp and upwards. I know it would not happen, but its nice to think about ;)
