YES.
AGH.
GOD.
EEE.

It better be Flint.
Then they might bring Mother3 to the West, the b-tards.
And it better not be Birdo.

Pft. New character?
More like... confirmed old character. :p

I'm more attracted to his level, which is a space ship. In space.

What, is Fox supposed to be the "new" character? Pfft. Waste.

Still, it was kind of interesting to get to see Wario and Snake in action briefly.

Xinos

That better not be the whole tier..

Pigbuster
3 Nov 2006, 22:55
Maybe the whole Not-unlockable tier.
Remember that the initial roster for SSB:M isn't all that impressive, but gets big once you unlock everyone. They aren't going to show any movies with secret characters.

And I doubt that they'd leave out Yoshi, Capt. Falcoln, or Bowser. And they better not leave out DK... he's my favorite.

My brain is exploding with Meta-Knight awesomeness.

Unfortunately, my buzz was killed violently when I saw Fox. I'm gonna go cut myself now.

What was wrong with Star Fox? His face not subdivided enough for you?

Personally I'm hoping for more variatied unlockable charecters than cheap knock off's like Dr. Mario and Falco.

What's the problem with Fox?
Believe me, a ton of people would've had a riot if he wasn't in. He's, like, everyone's best character.

He's also the furries' weapon of choice.

I like him as a character. I don't like him as a FREAKING MUTANT.

Pigbuster

Aw, he doesn't look that bad. :p

This video was SO dissapointing.

I seriously beg to differ. :p I know I'll get used to him as a freak at some point, but damn it. Yuck.

Fox was awesome in Star Fox 64. There will never be another good Star Fox game, and Fox himself will forever continue to slide farther and farther into stupid.

Xinos

I don't think he looks to bad. I just figured the head was unnecessarily low poly.

I like that Meta-Knight is in. I didn't know anything about SSBB before watching that. Surely, that's about half the characters, right? That is, considering that there were about double that many characters in SSBM.

Bah. They still haven't fixed the physics. SSBM's physics were ruined from SSB's, and it looks like this one won't have huge levels with vast movement area and suchlike. :( That's my favourite thing about SSB over other fighting games; the giant levels with crazy-awesome physics. I think I may have to still stick with SSB if they don't fix the physics.

Xinos
5 Nov 2006, 17:31
What? The physics where fine in SSBM, I like the heavier feel. Certainly you mean "unfix" the physics?

Lex
5 Nov 2006, 17:32
Nope. I mean what I said above.

Pigbuster
5 Nov 2006, 23:29
Most of the levels will probably be changed.

Seriously, it's a year away. Most of the stuff you see now may even be cut.
The levels are rather simple in these movies.

It wasn't fine. The 'heavier' feel was made out of a neccessity from the generally smaller levels.

Agreed completely.

I can't play SSB anymore. After playing SSBM so much it just feels too damn slow.

Lex

I suppose you'd prefer to play Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc, then. Those are fast fighting games where you can mash buttons almost at random and still win. I like SSB because you can't just mash buttons and have a chance at winning. SSBM moved closer to the mash-buttons-to-win style (though I admit, isn't quite as close to it as those other games I listed), in my opinion.

Pigbuster

SSBM has far more differences than just speed.
The ability to jump around...
A unique health system...
Dynamic levels...
items...
and a heck of a lot more than that.
SSBM is nothing like any of the games you mentioned.

Lex
9 Nov 2006, 05:21
I think you misinterpreted me. I said it moved closer to those games (from the original N64 Super Smash Bros.) (by reducing the [level size]:[character size] ratio, increasing gravity, and reducing overall attack power), not that it adopted their style.

I know and understand the awesomeness of the SSB series of games. I enjoy SSBM. I prefer the physics of SSB, but do like the new characters and other ideas introduced in SSBM. I just wish they'd revert the physics and level:character size ratio.

For some reason I completely missed that right there.

I keep saying SSBM isn't even a true fighting game; just a platformer where you bash the crap out of all the other guys.

I can't stand games like teken because they're no where near as accessable as SSB.

Learning twelve button combos just to get the best moves out of a character is not what I consider fun. I like that you only need two buttons and a stick flick to pull of all the moves in SSB.

I prefer Melee's speed, not because It make button mashing easier (not that mashing helps when you're up against halfway competent players), but because It's more fun. You need quicker reactions, your character feels way more responsive. If the ?N64s hardware could have handled it I'm sure SSB would have been the same speed as Melee.

I have always preferred characters to take up very little screen space. When there are four characters on the screen simultaneously taking up more than 15% of the total screen space, there is way too much chaotic imagery. Compare SSBM's tiny F-Zero GX level to the vast space on SSB's Hyrule Kingdom level. Even middle-sized levels like Saffron City are huge in SSB. In SSBM's Onett level, the characters are giant compared to the cars, buildings, etc. Why are they so huge? It doesn't allow much movement space.

From VGCats.com:
Yeeeeeeee! Glad to see they're using the SF Command version of Fox. No wait. What's the opposite of glad? Oh right, mortified.

If you're that bothered you can always play in 'tiny melee mode'.

Or on the Hyrule temple level.

Or both.

Which actually lowers the weight coefficient so much that it's worse than playing the regular game.

Or on the Hyrule temple level.
Only having one or two levels suitably large enough to offset the system's weakness is kind of disappointing.
