gfx card would make more sense. the colors are stored in gfx card as ieee 32 bit float vectors. that allows 23 bits for precision + sign, giving you total of 24 bits or over 16 million shades of each color component. monitor receives image at one byte per color component. that is 8 bits, or 256 shades of each color. due to that, if you adjust gamma on the monitor, you are likely to loose your ability to controll contrast.
