View Full Version : A Full Merger?

I am a fan of WWP and I can go on for a while for the reasons why. I read this though and got even more questions. Here is the post by bonz:

"In a distant future the beta patches will merge W:A and WWP with all the features of both, bring back online ranking and even support the Fiddler.
Until that, I'd say that W:A is the better game, with some of the new features actually being more useful than WWP's mission editor or Wormpot modes."

1: Is this speculative or fact?
2: Will this be the ,"WA plays off of WWP thing for WWP owners," or a true merger?
3: I read that the Fiddler will be supported. Is that for both WWP and WA, the WA being played off WWP, or is there a truly merged game it will play off of? Because I am a huge fan of the homing weapons of W2 and miss them a lot.
4: Will changing water color and whatever else is missing from W2 and WA be back? I know they are small things, but I miss them from W2 and WA.
5: Will this be able to work off of the try media version? I own the disc but hate owning the game on a disc because discs break and die.
6: Will the Fiddler be compatible online then?
7: If the Fiddler only is off of WA, does that mean W2 weapons are out of WWP?
8: Is there anything else I might have missed that you think I would like to know? You know what I mean. :)

My final question, in full, is will this merger bring back all the features of W2, WA, and WWP into one giant game playable by someone who owns the try media version of WWP with the fiddler compatible too; on and offline. And, if so, how far is this distant future? Do you have a ballpark estimate. A month, half a year, a year, five years?

I know I sound stingy and picky, but I feel bad about what I left behind in W2 when I got WWP. And I feel bad that WA is getting updates and WWP isn't, considering WWP was the newest game. If this merger does fix all these things, then, all is well. If not, well, that is sad then.

If this fixes everything (And by fix I mean merging the games and making an Overall Worms Second Generation Game for WA and WWP owners), I will likely buy a try media WWP. If not, I will likely just stop playing any Worms in time.

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day. :p

Post Done!

dont get the trymedia version... just buy the proper game and make an image of the disc and play it from a virtual cd-drive... you can encase the cd-packet in lead to keep it safe.

1: Is this speculative or fact?
It's a fact.

2: Will this be the ,"WA plays off of WWP thing for WWP owners," or a true merger?
As things are, you'll be able to play W:A with your WWP cd. I'm not sure if these plans are gonna be changed, though.

3: I read that the Fiddler will be supported. Is that for both WWP and WA, the WA being played off WWP, or is there a truly merged game it will play off of? Because I am a huge fan of the homing weapons of W2 and miss them a lot.
See answer 2. The updates are generally only for W:A.

4: Will changing water color and whatever else is missing from W2 and WA be back? I know they are small things, but I miss them from W2 and WA.
Already possible in W:A with CyberShadow's Water Editor (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/misc/watercolor.zip).

5: Will this be able to work off of the try media version? I own the disc but hate owning the game on a disc because discs break and die.
Definitely not. Forget Trymedia. If you possess the original disc of the game, create an image of it, save it on your hd and mount the image with DaemonTools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/), to be able to play without having the cd in your drive.

6: Will the Fiddler be compatible online then?
Certainly.

7: If the Fiddler only is off of WA, does that mean W2 weapons are out of WWP?
Not sure if I get the question right, but seeing as you'll be able to play W:A with your WWP cd, the problem should be superfluous. ;)

8: Is there anything else I might have missed that you think I would like to know? You know what I mean.
Since I don't know what you know and what you don't know, I'd like to know what you'd like to know in specific, hehe.

My final question, in full, is will this merger bring back all the features of W2, WA, and WWP into one giant game playable
This and even more features.

And, if so, how far is this distant future?
Nobody knows. It's safe to say that development on W:A is going well at the very moment, but one can't say how much time will pass until completion of the long expected v4.0.

And I feel bad that WA is getting updates and WWP isn't, considering WWP was the newest game.
The reason for that is simple and can be found here (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=27160).

Again, as franpa said, do not buy a Trymedia version of the game(s), you will regret the waste of money. ;)

2: Will this be the ,"WA plays off of WWP thing for WWP owners," or a true merger?
If I have got that correctly, the v4.0 patch will work on both games, making WWP into the updated W:A (as the WWP CD contains essentially the same stuff).
If I am not totally wrong a person that has the WWP CD will still be able to play the original, unpatched & obsolete WWP.

There was some discussion to merge W2 too, but that CD is missing to many contents.
do not buy a Trymedia version of the game(s), you will regret the waste of money.
Indeed. Most likely you will think: "Damn! With the money I spent for 1 Trymedia game I could have easily bought W2, W:A and WWP on CD including shipping to anywhere in the world."

All trymedia games are incapable of being updated or patched. It's why people here think they're rubbish.

You never answeredmy question.
Trymedia games use a special software to encrypt the games to ensure that the user has paid before he can play.
This means Team17 need to officially send them the patch.
The last time this has been done was when v3.0.5.0 has been released.
Since then everything has been released as beta "updates" stage aperiodically instead of a "patch".

I could think that after an offical patch release it would take some more time till Team17 have sent Trymedia the new version and till they have implemented it.
If that ever happens, as Team17 have indicated that they might release old games through the Gametap service.
I HATE owning the game for disc, and did not ask your OPINION on that.
As outlined before, you can easily make an image of the original CD and mount it as a virtual drive.
All without breaching any copyrights or paying insanely high sums of money to Trymedia.

You pay €15.99, €3.79 for tax and €2.95 for "download insurance" (!) if you buy W:A from Trymedia.
On the other hand you pay €19.80 for W2 and W:A or €29.70 for W2, W:A and WWP when buying from the Team17 shop. All prices include tax and shipping to anywhere in the world.

Use some reason and don't expect random people to foresee the future. :-/

from what people have told me in a factual way... w:a will be updated so you can play it with the wwp disc and have access to wwp terrain, soundbanks and missions... it does not allow you to play wwp with w:a stuff... wwp install should remain untouched and as such you should still have full access to an un-touched version of wwp sp1.

it is a 1 way merger in that it merges wwp support into w:a... not vice versa.

My favorite game, if I pick it to be WWP, must be new. Also, I do not like CD. I love the idea of Trymedia because the CD is not in any way part of it. At least not on my side. I don't want to buy a UK version Disc, which is not USA and USA is my country, have it shipped across the Ocean, then make a digital copy of it. I want to buy the Trymedia version, and the cost does not matter because I money is no object for what might be my favorite game. I don't want a Disc.

You did answer my question. I am sorry. But still, I do not want a disc and do not mind at all paying $30 to get around the horrid by getting the Trymedia version.

Because it is just wrong.
The idea is to merge both games in the sense of merging the community into a single online community.
And for WWP to play with W:A players online they would need all features of the updated W:A.
It wouldn't make sense to disallow WWP players to play with all the new stuff offline.

I think it will simply include all the missing stuff and actually leave WWP untouched.
(The game would get a wa.exe anyway.)

You do realize that Team17 are a UK based game developer?
So the game technically never is from the USA which is your country.

If money is not an issue, I suggest you get the triple pack including W2, W:A and WWP shipped to your door.
That way you have all the benefits of all the games till the patch is released.

Sounds like you really should learn how to handle CDs properly.

Besides, I have had my W:A CD in the drive the last time three years ago for 15 minutes:
The time needed to create a disc image. (Do you get it now? No more CD needed to play!)
Since then it has been sitting on my shelf, safely stored away in the jewel case protected from sunlight, scratches and whatever danger there could be to a CD.
Furthermore, I have made a backup copy from the image later on.

I do that with every game where it is possible.
Notable exceptions being W4M, which uses the Starforce copy protection, HL2/CS:S, which uses Steam and Battlefield 2, which uses the Punkbuster anti-cheat tool which checks for file manipulation.

But before you explode:
You have to wait until the v4.0 patch is released and have to see if T17 give it to Trymedia to update it.
See you again in many moons.
'Nuff said.
End'o'thread.

Actually it must be more than that because I had in when I lived in a terrace house, and that was before we moved into a flat and I've been there for five and a half years.

Edit: I reckon MoonEye just injured himself on a disc and has been afraid of them ever since ;)

It can if it's very, very badly damaged. Say, because it's been consistently mistreated for several years by a self-confessed CD hater.

Leave him be. If he hates CDs so much (which is probably both because and why he abuses them so much that a sizeable fraction of them die) then let him buy whatever version he wants. When he comes back next year whinging that the updates don't work, then tell him off.

(Haha, WWP getting an update in a year. That'll happen. Hoho.)

ah, you say that they are just adding everything to w:a thus making it possible to play a game that is similar to what is in wwp... everyone else told me it was a merge which from what i now see is untrue.

Plutonic
7 Oct 2006, 16:56
The method by which what ever merging happens will be done is not confirmed. So any real arguing over it is pointless. That last way I heard it being described is that WWP itself will remain untouched and WA will be upgraded to the point where it is able to, using the current versioning and emulation system - to emulate WWP and maybe even W2.

WA will in theory have a new inbuilt updating system that allows new files to be downloaded automatically. This will mean that a WWP installation could easily be upgraded to WA. WWP itself will remain WWP but a WWP disk will be able to run this new WA. As WA is able to emulate WWP, any WWP users who have chosen not to upgrade will force any WA players to emulate WWP. (WWP would still get a new serverlist with the new server details I presume...if not this probably means that WWP users will not use the new server but WA players will be able to connect to the old WWP server).

I HATE DISC. I Hate DISC. i HATE disc. Discs are obsolete. ...... blah blah blah... etc

Sigh... ok I'm going to be blunt and too the point here. Your being an idiot.

If your CD drive manages to destroy CD's then one of two things are happening:

1. You are doing something very very stupid with your CD's like jumping up and down on them or leaving them out in the sun in the height of summer untill they become brittle.

or
2. Your CD drive is ****, get a new one.

If you buy the trymedia version of WA to get around having a CD then you will not be able to play online as it is not compatable with the latest patched CD version. If you want to play offline only and don't care about updates that improve the gameplay by adding new options then fine, go ahead. If you want to play the game online and with all the latest stuff then get the CD and stop moaning. Those are the two options just choose one, get on with it, and leave us alone.

The trymedia version of WWP is no better, and there is realy no reason why you wold want WWP over WA anyway.
