i think you've been confused by some of the more subtle aspects of surrealist internet comedy. my comedy is more hat-based while they are obviously focused on masks, which is the "trendy" thing nowadays. i'm more of a traditionalist who sticks to the hat-basics, much to the dismay of my detractors.

the team17 moderators obviously expect a degree of intelligence and meaningful discussion to rival significant threads such as "Post your amazing WeapTwk Accomplishments!" and "Post Your Worms 4: Mayhem Screenshots!", so let's get right to it!

i will start by addressing the future of worms in haiku form that has a double meaning.

the future of worms
has got many big problems
one is about hats
my father once said
a good pc game should be fun
sadly it is rare
probably because
it is easier to make
stupid cheap gimmicks
and if you're around
fanboys who like all your work
arguments will be
greatly surpressed and
good willed criticism choked
only later you'll learn
that you've made mistakes

Trolling, hu?

Yes, trolling.

Not?

Not.

Claiming that someone who is being hypocritical is being hypocrytical is not insulting them. It is merely observing a confirmable character trait which appears to have emerged. The same goes for the "objectivity" of his track record. A mod is here to stop trouble-makers; Spectre is correct in stating that they weren't the ones to start a flamewar and their dislike for the games concerned appear to have struck a nerve in Thomasp.

Just because these people's opinions are negative does not mean they are trolling. The Worms franchise is not idyllic; it is important that balance is maintained in the community. After all, we wouldn't want Team17 to believe everything they make is a slice of fried gold; I'm sure they know they can do better but it is important that they know the community believes in them.

Deep down these people believe that Team17 are fully capable of releasing a really good, fun, solid, entertaining, up-to-date Worms game. The problem is that they don't seem to want to and haven't done since their valiant effort with WWP.

The fact of the matter is, it's the publishers who call the shots; however, it is still Team17's game. This forum is here to cater for the Worms community as a whole (so long as they obide by the rules, as the people concerned are) and allow them to express their opinions of Worms games to-be and gone.

What everyone seems to be doing - rather than disgareeing and stating why they feel the games concerned are really great - is targeting Spectre, Cheech, et al. Even myself, bizzarely.

That is why this keeps reverting to a flamewar. Why not let them have their say? If you disagree, either say why or just ignore it and hope it goes away. I for one agree and embrace the idea of people so open with their opinions rejoining the community at its epicentre.

Of course the Worms franchise is not idyllic. I never claimed it to be, and I also think that Worms Mayhem could have been better. But these people do not really seem to believe that Team17 would be capable of makung a better Worms game. Instead, they keep on making a mockery of Spadge, calling Team17 crap programmers and laughing about the oh-so-funny hats. Contested everything, did I? Hmm... well, let's try debuff you in steps. First off, can you please find where I contested the video posted, whish was what this thread was origionally about?
Besides, it's not having a debate that's considered flaming or trolling; it's making obviously unreasionable posts and insulting others.

Claiming that someone who is being hypocritical is being hypocrytical is not insulting them. It is merely observing a confirmable character trait which appears to have emerged. Calling someone a name, such as idiot, is always offensive. That person may be a little dim, but it's still an insult.
And there are a number of examples of them starting a flame war. Including that post that you are talking about.

No; we're complaining because they're making unlogical statements and insulting others. That's why they're considered trolling.

Deep down these people believe that Team17 are fully capable of releasing a really good, fun, solid, entertaining, up-to-date Worms game. The problem is that they don't seem to want to and haven't done since their valiant effort with WWP.
Don't state your opinion as fact, and people will take your posts more seriously.

The fact of the matter is, it's the publishers who call the shots; however, it is still Team17's game. This forum is here to cater for the Worms community as a whole (so long as they obide by the rules, as the people concerned are) and allow them to express their opinions of Worms games to-be and gone.

i'm not going to bother to reply to all points since i think vader took care of it rather brilliantly. here is a long-time team17 member who will stay objective and critical until the end, not letting the trends of the mainstream cloud his judgement. observe his argumentation. you can learn a lot from him.

the latest post by snoozy seems to sum up the points of the team17 fanboys accurately, so let me make my statement.

They don't state what they think could have been done better in Worms Mayhem (except Tehcheech appears to want graphics at the level of FEAR and Quake), they just complain about the same single (unimportant) thing over and over again.

at this point we have journeyed well beyond team17 criticism in our conflict. there is no denying that we're making a mockery of spaedg and team17's latest games but there would be no other way to get this much attention in so little time. the huge interest in our threads proves our strategy correct.

now that we had caught your eye we wanted to bring the discussion to a new (and meaningful) level but you weren't as ambitious as us. i can speak for myself: if you've read the locked thread correctly and completely you could've hardly overlooked my considerable effort, writing long essays about each side of the "outdated graphics" argument, the merits of 2d worms (and how they were violated in the worms 3d games) and about ways to make the worms 3d game dynamic as enjoyable as their 2d equivalent.

predictably, you have disagreed with all of them before thinking them through, using "NO U" types of argumentation and even criticising me for expecting a strategic worms game. worms? strategic? nonsense! i bet you've all grown up on nothing but rope games.

disappointingly you weren't interested in a serious debate yourself but instead spent all your time calling us trolls, desperately urging us to "stop posting", telling us how you're never going to visit the thread again and then returning five minutes later. you consciously did this instead of writing counter-arguments to our points, instead of adding to the discussion we've tried to get going. it could've become great.

i think it's becoming more and more than apparent that the team17 forum is not the place to look for intelligent discussion. this forum is essentially a huge advertisment for team17 that is maintained by gullible fanboys who are being voluntarily exploited by a company that desperately needs a good public image.

disagree? you can prove me wrong very easily by looking at our arguments from the locked thread and starting to discuss them in an intelligent and mature way.

i'll tell you what will happen instead. this thread has obviously turned into a discussion once again (and thus into a flamewar! god forbid! forums aren't there for people who want to discuss their disagreements. forums were intended for people who laugh and sing and kiss each other's asses. LOCK THREAD NOW!) and we will likely move the topic to cheech's thread until it gets locked.

but it doesn't have to be this way. you can prove me wrong in a big way and redeem yourself from your sycophantic fanboy image by stopping your whining and starting to counter-point our arguments in a mature and intelligent manner.

where we go from here is up to you.

disappointingly you weren't interested in a serious debate yourself but instead spent all your time calling us trolls, desperately urging us to "stop posting", telling us how you're never going to visit the thread again and then returning five minutes later. you consciously did this instead of writing counter-arguments to our points, instead of adding to the discussion we've tried to get going. it could've become great.
I'll only comment on this paragraph, as the rest is simply the same stuff repeated over and over again.
And I'll type it in caps, and highlight it, so that you won't 'miss' it.
WE DID MAKE COUNTER-ARGUMENTS! YOU JUST DECIDED TO IGNORE THEM, SO THAT YOU COULD LATER COMPLAIN ABOUT US NOT MAKING ANY!

Oh, and I'll comment on this too:
i'll tell you what will happen instead. this thread has obviously turned into a discussion once again ...
*Sigh* Starting a discussion is the biggest point of making a topic.

Starting a discussion is the biggest point of making a topic.

These guys have started numerous threads (read: discussions) all of which have turned to flamewars due into fanboys feeling upset.

they weren't "points", they were excuses that were supposed to justify why worms 3d isn't (and shouldn't be) as much fun as worms 2d. and why it's completely okay and understandable that worms 3d has as many problems as it does.

regardless, if you re-read the thread you'll find i took care of those "points" rather well.

Spectre137: Can I just say well done on an excellent post earlier (4 posts earlier).

I am half tempted to cut this thread right back and see if a sensible discussion can get going again. But, that would probably leave about 3 posts...

Let's see if we can have a sensible discussion now, without insulting each other. If you (the forum members) cannot handle that, then I'll lock this thread.

I'd care to disagree on that.

My first post was about how you could remove the hats. You responded with an obviously sarcastic statement. I wouldn't consider that taken care of rather well.
In response to my second post, you say that you like the hats, which I would presume to be sarcastic based on that you had just complained two posts above about how W4 hats are a ridiculous gimmick.
Looking back, I couldn't find one point about hats by another forumer that you answered clearly.

Let's see if we can have a sensible discussion now, without insulting each other. If you (the forum members) cannot handle that, then I'll lock this thread.
Don't mean to be rude, but where should we start?

is the pseudonym 'spaedg' and the 'head' representative of any real life person?

why not Boggy B or Lambo?

'Spaedg' is an intentional misspelling of 'Spadge', which is the nickname of the Team17 boss.

yeah, i still remember when i was 13 and joining rope clans in Worms 2...
cant believe 9 years later im still playing a worms game

not even counterstrike or quake 2 or swat 4 or joint ops e created such a lasting obsession.
why? i dont know

can't recall of any other games that are similar to the worms genre; besides spinoffs (Soldat).
maybe the Qbasic game Gorillas of throwing bananabombs based on angle and wind :P

hello i'm back

just saying, i'm planning a next mayham video but it may take a while. hold onto your hats! (rolfl)

not even counterstrike or quake 2 or swat 4 or joint ops e created such a lasting obsession.

counterstrike has a way more obsessive (and much larger) community than worms (god knows why). and don't forget world of warcraft, that game is ruining the inter-net.

in fact counterstrike (or was it quaek?) is SO popular creative labs named a sound card after a really good player. i mean, what an accompishment. chicks dig guys with sound cards named after their inter-net nicknames.

i'd like to meet this guy and tell him he's really good at pointing his mouse at pixels. watch out mozart, here comes the mouse-pointing prodigy! he will usher in a new era of stupid and worthless computer accomplishments, like that 16-year-old kid who claimed some years ago that he's working on a web browser that will revolutionize mankind and that he is writing "seven million lines of code a day".

amusingly enough that was the last time anyone's ever heard of him. ***d by irl.

maybe the Qbasic game Gorillas of throwing bananabombs based on angle and wind :P

that's what i meant by qbasic bananas (not sure if it was in this thread though)

also, lol, nuclearblast.

counterstrike and quake2 was addictive as long as they kept simple graphics that dont distract players.....and as long as cheaters stay out and impossibly accurate players as well....
now with CS:Source and Quake3/4...its gone overboard

im not gonna talk about WoW and the more irritating DOTA in my pretty backward country....and Oblivion...

but i guess i got re-addicted to Worms4 was because it kept simple graphics... but has some limitations to variations of play that 2d Worms had (super sheep matches, rope matches, not sure what else cos i forgot)...
the current worms4 community usually plays strange rope games or the usual Standard style....or infinite weaps.....hardly anyone tries destruction or survivor..... but if anyone really tried, they can create new ways to play the game using wormpot and some changing of settings....

Not sure how long my 'addiction' will last.....Swat4 died within a year because the expansion pack came out and made it slower to play online.

all in all; i was sad that the prince of persia series has ended
and i wish someone would make a remake of 'Inner Space'

Right. That's quite enough of the inappropriate spam - this forum needs to stay as "PG" as possible due to the ages of people that visit.
