I do believe the guys at joystiq just screwed themselves a little bit on that one, what with the complete discrediting of nintendo and everything they're doing as well as with the use of pointlessly complex wording to make them look smart....gg joystiq!

Wow, that's stupid. He's saying that we should go out and buy plenty of consoles because they're cheaper than if we made them ourselves?

Most comments below are ignoring the ceteris paribus stipulation of the argument. For this argument to work, one must assume that all else is equal. To put it another way, would you buy a Wii at $600 or at $100? You'd buy it at $100, because the $600 model is exactly the same. Most rebuttals are bringing in objections that violate the core stipulation.

this last paragraph kinda makes it look like a joke.

an exorbitant joke.

the use of pointlessly complex wording

I didn't notice that; they used a latin term (which, whilst somewhat extraneous, is explained within the timespan of searching wiki and reading one sentence) but the linguistics weren't especially complex, were they?

I'm not really sure about that article, probably isn't meant to be taken seriously. I've heard tons of Sony fanboys whine because of the (few) bad press Sony is getting and how the Wii is being over-promoted, so they're probably trying to appeal to them again. But the comments on that other post (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/14/wii-hardware-to-be-profitable-at-launch/) amused the hell out of me.
Nintendo is going the way of Apple (in the PC realm). They have a dedicated fan base, and they're going to milk them for everything they can, without really worrying too much about expanding their audience.

Fanboys who declare Nintendo will be #1 this generation are idiots. They cater to kids and fanboys.

Quite frequently companies have a department dedicated to going on random forums and bigging stuff up. It wouldn't surprise me if a handful of the idiots who type in 1337 speak and say stuff like "NO U!" are being paid to do so.

Heh. That's what the PS3 is doing.
And it's what apple are doing outside of the PC realm.

And I'll be suprised if someone learned from my post.

Yes, it is the most utterly ridiculous argument ever. "Oh no, Nintendo are making a profit, HOW DARE THEY?!? We shouldn't buy from a company that's trying to make a living, no, we should buy from the one that's 'risking it' by selling at a loss BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAVE HUGE WADS OF CASH TO COMPENSATE YOU FREAKIN' DUMBASS!!!"
