View Full Version : PS2 save for someone finding single player abhorrent?

I know the opinion might not be popular here, but I loathe the single player mode of the various Worms games. I buy Worms games for multi-player, not for sitting at home alone.

I find no enjoyment in the single player missions. I don't feel a thrill running the optimal path in Crate Britain so that I can get a gold and thus unlock the level. I don't feel achievement facing challenges against the AI that are pre-built to the point that you can follow step-by-step guides to attain golds. Not when I need golds to unlock things for multi-player. I don't want to spend a few minutes parachuting through targets or jet packing from spot to spot.

I just want to play the multi-player. Except Team 17 doesn't seem to want me to do that. Things can only be unlocked in single player. And while I have zero normal desire to attain golds, I am forced to try for them just to unlock things so that I can have a bit of fun every now and then. (Particularly since so much is locked, and the random landscapes are somewhat weak in comparison to some of the prebuilt levels.)

I've never physically met a person that actually likes playing Worms games in single player to unlock things. If I ever had, I could just ask them to do the work for me. I've met several people that like Worms, but none ever wanted to go through things like a Worms campaign mode.

I own the GC version of Worms 3D. I forced myself to go through a moderate amount of the challenges, until I got so sick of the game that I stopped playing it in any form, including multiplayer. I later found a Gamecube game save.

Except the Gamecube port of Worms 3D isn't that good. It has several annoying glitches. Plus, it doesn't seem to like my Gamecube, as it sometimes makes the drive make very worrying noises.

So a friend bought the (US) PS2 version. There don't seem to be any game saves for the PS2 version online, in any format. He, of course, doesn't want to play single player. Nor do any of the others. So he looked at me. I started unlocking things. And I find myself growing to hate the game anew.

So I ask, for my own sanity as well as for a group of people that just want to play a videogame to have fun, does anyone have a PS2 game save for Worms 3D? Or know of where to find one? US preferable, but even a UK save might work with basic conversion...

Here are some good ideas:

Buy the PC version of Worms 4 Mayhem and play that with all your friends, assuming you have a decent PC.
Buy the PC version of Worms Armageddon, and discover that it really is the most fun version of Worms, despite being 2-dimensional.

I don't suggest you continue on your frustrating Worms-3D-level-unlocking quest if you don't want to. Games are meant to be fun. With Worms Armageddon, fun is exactly what you'll get. :)

We've got the Dreamcast version of Armageddon.

The way we game, in a "friends gather around the living room" way, doesn't really favor PC gaming. PC is in another room, which isn't so sprawl-friendly, and is certainly isn't practical to move it just to play Worms.

Unlocking things in Worms 3D wouldn't even be that awful if it weren't for the general unpolished feel of the game combined with some annoying glitches and behavior which can cost you a gold. Or if the random terrain generator were better, we wouldn't even necessarily feel the need to unlock so many pre-built terrains.

Oh well, maybe I've unlocked enough for everyone else, before getting completely frustrated.

Heaven forbid you should have to play a game to unlock stuff.

I feel your pain, you poor, poor person.

Don't be mean. Just cause someone wants to play a game for fun doesn't mean you can be rude to them.
