Hey I need some help from you guys.
I'm running P4 3.0GHZ 2GB of RAM a 256MB gfx card, basicly I can play any game that is out right now... except worms. I'm using the newest patch. When ever I try to start an actual worms map the game just crashes to my desktop. No error message or anything. I notice right before it crashes the colors on screen get really weird almost like rainbowish and then it just quits. I play BF2 right now also but I wanted to get back into worms because it is such a classic. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pat
The hippie colour problem comes mostly from an application stealing WA.exe's focus. So what you want to do first is check for programs that might pop up as you start the game [firewall comes to mind] and either close them completely or turn their always-on-top option off.
If that doesn't do the trick, report back and I'm sure we'll think of more.
Edit: By "start a map" you two mean start a game or try to open the map editor? Doesn't current.thm have something to do with it if that's the case, Run?
If it crashes when you start a map, but the front end is fine, then it sounds like you haven't properly installed the patch/update combo. Check your version by hovering over the logo in the main menu.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I meant start a game not edit a map. none of the games seem to work like single player or training missions. Its weird about the thing that is stealing focus because when WA is closed there is nothing... nothign from my anti-virus or anything.

My version is 3.6.26.5. To my knowledge it is the newest version and I followed the tutorial to install it here ..... http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp/installguide-original2.php
The hippie colour problem
HEHE! :D I like that!
I say that this problem is called liek that from now on.
MSN? Winamp? Firewall? Antivirus? Miranda IM? Trillian? AIM? YIM? ICQ? Skype? Try closing all of these.
I have never had problems with these, except my firewall (when I try to logon to wn), but I configured that, but other people have had problems with these...
I have the same problem... When I press "start" button colors changes to hippie for a half of second and then game closes without any error messages =(
I hear it can also be caused by wrong graves/flags. The focus stealing is your best bet, mae sure all programs in the task bar are closed.

I have the same problem. I start the game fine, click on "single player", then "training", choose my team, ok the first mission, it shows the loading screen, and when the logo gets to the 3rd "loading slice", it goes hippie and goes back to the desktop.

I'm having the same problem, I have Windows XP Pro and a high end machine, and could run it fine with 3.6.22.1 a long time ago with this same machine, but now I can't run it with any patch applied at all, I just get those hippy colors when I go to start a single or multiplayer game, and I get one of those microsoft error reports when I try to edit a team. I'm assuming its something to do with some updated driver or something , I've read the guides, tried adjusting compatibility settings, and upgrading\downgrading my graphics drivers. I would really like to be able to play worms again .:p

Any running program stealing the palette ? Look at the file palette.log in your WA installation folder to gather info about it.
and I get one of those microsoft error reports when I try to edit a team.
Corrupted team file spotted.
Use an external team editor (TeamEd could do the job) to fix anything required.
crash can also be related to too many graves in your grave folder etc.

I've tried killing all processes, including windows explorer, and I can't find the palette.log file anywhere.

I think this could have something to do with it, I created a new file with only one team, and it crashed right from the start, and if I use the original file it crashes only when I go to start a game or edit a team. I can't seem to use TeamEd at all because everytime I try to open the team file it tells me something about access denied etc. I can run the game perfectly at 3.0.0 but the second I install any patch after that it just won't run. As I've said I could run it fine before with the latest beta patch, which is why I assume it had something to do with my updated drivers or some software I installed. However I recently reformatted and it will no longer work.

I highly doubt thats the problem, I have tried deleting almost all of them, and I've tried it with a million of them no difference.
Thanks for the help though!
