because i have heard rumors that a few companies are still left out in the cold as far as ps3 is concerned. if you guys already have it; is it really a "nightmare" to develop for, or is it pretty much as easy/difficult as programming for any other system?

Team17 are licensed on all next generation formats.

We have development kit for every platform with the exception of Wii at the current moment in time.

We cannot comment about specifics.

A miscalculation in the beer budget?

Spadge spent the money on an entry to the World Series of Poker.

To win more money to spend on beer I suppose?

Yes, but he intends to give some bottles to Nintendo staff for a night out, and have some business talks afterwards.

Because actually AIMING with the CONTROLLER would be TOO cool!

And having Worms 4 and Worms: Forts Under Siege on Gamecube would be too CONVINIENT FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE A PS2 OR XBOX.

TEAM 17, SUPPORT NINTENDO, DAMNIT.:) Thank you.

At least they supported Sega. Back when Sega made systems. Those were the days, man.

Actually, it was Nintendo's choice not to have W4M on gamecube.

Do calm down. They're licensed on Wii, so I think it's reasonable to assume for the time being they'll get a Wii devkit as and when someone asks them to make a Wii game. You have to get one devkit last.

Its not a case of not being interested, we're just on with other things at the moment.

Kits are due to arrive, but have not turned up as yet. Since we aren't developing a launch title, we don't get priority - simple as that.

Is it me, or is the beer thing not funny anymore?

I am actually getting quite concerned at the amount of times the word "beer" is used on the forum.

it has come to my attention that FINAL ps3 devkits have arrived. they're quiter, cooler, and according to Sony, "Easy to develop for". also, the controller has underwent improvements and PNP is up and running.
here's a link:

i just have one question. on other blogs im on many people rant about how the ps3 is a "nightmare to program for". while Sony isnt the most honest company out there, i dont think they're about to flat-out lie like that. is the ps3 actually a hell hole for developers, or is it as difficult as expected for next gen?
i dont need high end details, just a yes or no.

Pfff... No Wii development at the moment :/ I'm actually planning to buy one. Not only 'cause it's cheap, but it's very very fun (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=9048)!

I think the Wii would be REALLY hard to develop for....I mean, it's hard enough programming stuff for Playstation 2 and Xbox! But having to program in ALL THOSE REALLY COMPLICATED MOVEMENTS? It's gonna be tough if they do... i mean, programming the thing waving in a circle in order to (say,) select your next worm? Programming that would be REALLY HARD.

Actually, I'd say that Nintendo would have already coded that for the DevKits.

Not only 'cause it's cheap,
Did I miss Nintendo announcing the price, or are people making up figures and pretending they're true?

Well, nobody knows if it will be cheap or not, but we do know it will be cheap compared to the PS3.

Did a Nintendo representitive say that, or is it a guess?

It's neither of those things. Nobody from Nintendo has said it, but it's patently obvious. Nintendo consoles are always cheap. It's what they do. They make cheap, family friendly consoles for people who want to have fun rather than high-spec powerhouses for people who want to watch photorealistic gore splatter around the screen at the speed of light. They will not release a $500 console. It just isn't going to happen. Ever since the NES they've deliberately underpowered their machines to make them cheaper.

Nobody from Team17 has said that their next game won't be Press Space As Fast As You Can and retail for a million pounds, but it's a fair assumption, don't you think?

Yep. One of their executives said it'll be much cheaper and funner than the competitors. Well, since they didn't add any bleeding edge technology to the console, it'll be certainly cheap and hopefully you'll be hopping on the spot with joy waving your hands while holding the controllers ^^

FYI,

The console is going to debut for less that US$ 250.
The Wii SDK costs $10,000 a piece, which is cheaper than even a PS2 SDK.

I'm not sure, but I've heard $25k for each PS2 SDK.

they have implied that wii will be 'cheap' many times. how cheap is hard to say, but it would be no big leap of logic to say that it will be cheaper than 360.

In other words; I don't know. But I wouldn't be suprised if it was true, it does sound like something Sony would do without trying to make up for it.
