I developed a rather strange habit lately - I've been putting together fake boxarts for games that will never be released. Want to see some examples?

Hmmm...
I have Stepmania tracks of both Project X and Alien Breed.
I didn't know Project X was by Team17. OH NUTTY.
Yah.
And nice.
Those are good, they look quite authentic.

Maybe they are...
Maybe Ben is just trying to cover up for telling us something we don't know...
Maybe I'm crazy... :p

Maybe you need to lay off the coffee at half 6 in the afternoon... :p ;)
Very authentic, I could just see that SF one on sale.
You were just giving us "examples". Does that mean you;ve made more?

It means I'm planning on making more as soon as I have the time :p

Because the DS is a superior system. It's as simple as that. I'm not going to let this thread turn into a console debate because, frankly, I don't think there is a debate. The DS wins before anyone has even had a chance to step in the ring.

Stop trying to push Attack of the Hamsters on everyone. It's a silly concept and it hasn't got any legs. It's rubbish.

You're the one turning this into a console debate. I was just interested in knowing why you chose to make DS boxes and not, say, PC or PlayStation 2 boxes..
PS: I'm just using PC and PlayStation 2 as examples. I am not saying they're superior to the DS. Everyone's so touchy....

I didn't say it was already a console debate. I pre-empted the debate that would naturally follow a comment such as "the DS is a superior system".
Okay, but back on topic, I think they're really quite good.

Something a bit different this time. I'm in the process of either finding or, if I can't find one, knocking together DVD-case size covers for my PSone games. Through the Penny Arcade Forum I discovered a project at [Snackbar Games (http://www.snackbar-games.com/gbacovers.php)] to produce boxart not just for PSone games but for various other systems, including GameBoy covers for US-style DS cases. Nice, eh? Using some of the elements from other box covers there, and by scanning one of my own covers, I was able to produce a DVD-case sized cover for Worms Armageddon.

That's awesome! :)
Also, I don't want to be an ass, but you forgot to put a Pegi rating on the back along with the content descriptor.
Squirminator2k
12 Aug 2006, 13:06
Yeah, i thought about putting it there. Then I decided not to.
Why ever not? Pegi ratings are the best things about boxes! One time, I had to choose between getting a game with pegi 18+ on the box, and the same game with a BBFC 15 on the box. I chose the pegi box. True story.
Squirminator2k
12 Aug 2006, 13:27
Fine. To make you feel better about yourself, I'm going to stick the PEGI on the back. Y'happy now?
Edit: Actually, I've just looked at the back of my PS2 games for comparisson, and only one of them has the PEGI on the back! Ha.
Well, the 3+ rating is usually only put on the front. Every other one is also put on the back. So what does that say about your PS2 games? :P

It says you assume that a game must have at least a 12+ rating to be fun. Keep in mind that Rayman Anniversary Collection is 3+ and is easily one of the best platform collections you'd ever hope to own.
Incidentally, I've not had the chance to print off and use this cover yet - I don't have a prniter of my own - so if anyone else has done so, if you could post a picture of it on your shelf that'd be great :)

Says something that most of my games still have the old ELSPA ratings on them...
Of PEGI rated stuff, Sonic Mega Collection is apparantly 12+ and has a violence tag. Whaaaa?

I asked about that. Somethin' to do with Comix Zone.
And I do NOT think 12+ games are better. I have all the Rayman games and loads of other 3+ games and think they're all awesome. That's right.

I asked about that. Somethin' to do with Comix Zone.Suggests to me that Sega missed a trick by including it, then. Puyo Puyo 2* might have been a better bet.
* Puyo Puyo 1 is the game of which Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is the Americanised/Europeanised version. Puyo Puyo 2 is the sequel that adds a fair few nifty extras, but it was never released over here in any form. A shame, because it also features one of my favourite tunes in video game history.
Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is fun! I play it between the 'regular' type games.
Puyo Puyo, wasn't there something like that released on the PSP not too long ago?

Puyo Puyo, wasn't there something like that released on the PSP not too long ago?Yep, and the GBA and DS. Puyo Pop Fever, it's called.
Mean Bean Machine is okay, but because it's functionally only equivalent to Puyo Puyo 1, Puyo Puyo 2 is a much better play. PP2 has offsetting: that is, you can counter "rubbish beans" before they drop by performing chains of your own. Although this makes it slightly tougher to force a win, it also makes it easier to turn the game around when the pressure's on you.
Now you'd think that Puyo Puyo 2 would be a quality hidden extra in SMC, maybe for playing DRMBM 20 times or something...
