I like the TF2 announcement more.the entire HL2 package will be in one box, so regardless of which you prefer, you can get both :)
though I honestly don't see why a remake of an old game is more exciting to you than a brand new game with some interesting possibilities, but bleh, whatever works.

I know I can get both, I was just pointing out that I liked the other announcment better than this one.
Why I like a remake over a new game? Because I was a huge TFC fan. It was I think the first online game I ever played, and I absolutely loved it. I also love the new stylish look they've given it, and the fact that things seem to be remaining pretty much the same :D
Altough, yeah, Portal is quite teh awesome. Altough I have a feeling that I might end up doing mostly loopholes :p

Altough, yeah, Portal is quite teh awesome. Altough I have a feeling that I might end up doing mostly loopholes :pI get the feeling I'm gunna end up mostly being a jerk with them: 1. Fire portal over random death trap or ground. 2. **** off opponent 3. fire portal in front of opponent. 4. watch him fall into portal. 5. laugh.

Well, that won't be as fun against NPCs since, well, what's there to laugh at? And if there's an online mode and you're playing against others... Well, keep in mind that they can do just about the same thing to you :p

I really can't wait for this game. Too bad I have integrated graphics. Personally, I'd probably try to shove my opponent into a portal on the ground and make them come out of one directly above it. Then stand back and laugh.

It souldn't be that funny, considering that they're AI.
Although it would make handy target practice.

Doesn't mean you can't get them in an endless loop.
edit: they released a trailer for TF2!! :D
It's looking so awesome.
Portal won't have online play. It's a puzzle game.
Funny how I just posted about both Portal and TF2 on the next Worms forum down the road yesterday. Link if you're interested in my view:

Actually, I dont remember seeing any NPCs in that video!who knows? there may well not be. this is supposed to be a puzzle game more than anything, so you never know HOW they're going to do it.
BUT, keep in mind what we were shown was supposed to be a training video, and a trainee wouldn't be fighting others, so there may well be NPCs in the game....just have to wait and see.
Here is a high definition downloadable version of the trailer for anyone interested.

Also, considering the fact that this is basicly a HL2 mod, expect to se the portal function copypasted into other steam games. I know I'm gonna try getting the portal weapon into HL2, it should only be a matter of copying some files..

I'd say it's highly likely that Gary's mod will soon support the game.

Maybe requires a bit of playing with the sdk, but just copying files doesn't seem like could do the trick...regardless, it's the same sort of base programming, so it shouldn't be hard to implement into HL2 Gmod.....something like that won't be single-player only for long, you can bet on that.

They might have tweaked the Source Engine, anyway, for all we know, in which case it may happen to not be compatible with HL2's version..

I'm sure you will be able to.
I mean, there's no reason why it won't be possible, is there? We can already play with translocators and anythign that's too complex for the internet can be played on a LAN or splitscreen.

I won't be able to, my mom is just another mom who doesn't care if the game has an excellent storyline she is just a mom against violence, the only game she lets me get is worms. Now I love worms, but I want to play other games as well. Luckily I have friends who let me play on their computers, X-Boxes, etc.
And by the way, for all of those who don't know Half-Life 3 is not coming out. Valve said that we will sort of be playing Half-Life 3 through episodes 1-3. (Even though I'm not allowed to play it I do know my Half-Life facts.)
I'll try to find the quote if I can.

I don't know. The possibilites of cheating tremedously is there, and it will be very hard to prohibit. Unless they only use the gun for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Basicly what valve is doing, they are making Half-Life 3 and you have already seen the first third of it (And that is Half-Life: 2 Episode 1), they are doing it this way, because it would take too long to make Half-life 3. Half-Life 2, took two years to make, even after all the setbacks (The Source code leaking) Valve just wanted us to get more timely updates.

That is beyond me.
This looks great.
I just reinstalled Half Life 2 today, ready for when Episode Two comes out. I won't bother with Episode One until it comes down in price. 2 hours of gameplay for £16.99? It's too expensive.

I believe I read in an interview somewhere that it was something that would have been done in hindsight (and also, the development time between Half Life and HL2 was so substantial, and the fact that sequels often imply dramatic technological leaps), and that some of the story was to be covered in the originally-planned expansion.
I just wish I could remember where the damn interview was.
As for Portal, I originally thought it was just some gimmicky thing, but the trailer really made it appeal to me. What I wonder, however, it the size of the game - traditional puzzle games can approach a hundred levels, while the 3D aspect would stunt that, somewhat. I of course will get it, with HL2: Ep 2, but I do sincerely hope they include an inbuilt puzzle-maker - more complex elements might be possible with the SDK, but who doesn't like making a damn good puzzle - and the whole sharing custom-made levels always adds life to a game.
MtlAngelus
26 Jul 2006, 07:06
Why not make the levels with SDK? I seriously doubt they'll make a level editor given that they already have the source sdk, which most likely will support making levels for Portal.
Yes, to prohibit people from being able to use the Source SDK for a Source game would be a very stupid move from Valve.

Then type "apply" and press enter to start the application process.

They don't need to make a simpler level editor than the SDK, you just don't use the advanced features. The SDK is very easy to learn, and there are loads of tutorials for getting started.

Yes, but it doesn't say weather or not it's real or not. I didn't get to register my own password or put in an email adress or anything. And if everyone shares the password "portal" it's not very safe now is it?

Basically it's a load of crap. You just answer the questions for fun.
The code changes and is impossible to enter correctly (case-sensitive and you can only type in caps).
