Wine 0.9.16 contains a rewrite of directdraw. The old directdraw (on which the hacked replacement ddraw.dll I've been telling people to use is based) used some internal Wine functions that have now been removed; the new rewritten ddraw doesn't need them. Unfortunately, my hacked ddraw.dll does.
So I made a new hacked replacement ddraw.dll for Wine 0.9.16 and (hopefully) newer versions. You can download it here (http://madewokherd.nfshost.com/wa_ddraw-0.9.16.tar.bz2).
The wahelp page is traditionally slow to update, and it doesn't help that I haven't really sent Run any updates for this yet.
As for making this work without any hacks, well, not much progress has been made, at least not by me.
