I am running Worms Armaggeddon (Version 3) on Windows 98 2nd edition, I have loaded the colored level "boats.jpg" which comes with this game.

The problem there is a number of small black dots around the outline of the edges of the boat.
I am getting the same problem for other bmp, jpg levels (around the edges of the landscape)

My computer has a NVIDIA 64MB (I think) graphics card.

What is causing the problem? Any way of fixing the problem?
I hope there is nothing wrong with my computer

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with your computer.

Simple problem:
.jpg files will save with dots around the image.

Solution:
Dont save map pictures as .jpg! And you may as well forget about the ones you've already saved as .jpg unless you want to remove all the dots manually, after saving as another picture type.

The best solution for you would be to update your game properly [ www.nanacide.com/wahelp/ ] and start using .PNG maps. The quality is considerably better, since you can convert them to a working file format without using the Import feature. Photoshop seems the least painless for the job to me.

Not to mention .PNG maps work online in case you ever desire to try out the reason this game exists.

Thanks for the replies

I am also getting the same problem for some of the bmp maps that I have created.

Since you mentioned that PNG is the best format for the maps to use. Could you please advise what software I need to create PNG pictures?

Is it possible to download the software?
If so, then where can I download the software from?

Cheers:)

The 'Paint' program can save pictures as PNG.

Thx for the reply

Is there a reason why I am getting black dot problem (losing details) for the bmp files?

Can the software Paint be used to successfully convert the bmp files to png? Do I need another software for this?

Cheers:)

A picture that was origionally saved as jpg, but was changed to a different file type, will still have black dots.
Otherwise, I dont know.

Yes.
In the 'file' menu, click 'save as'. Then change the file type to png.

yeah but you can save as a bitmap and get worms armageddon to import and convert also in the normal scheme editor. Just put your bitmap map in the user/import folder then click on the import symbol in the map editor, save as something and hey presto.

This does work doesnt it?

Yes, but we've just spent like 5 posts explaining how doing it by that method is the reason he's losing detail and getting black dots around the outline of the pictures.

Not that anyone reads my posts. I already said Photoshop is the least painful way of creating .PNG maps. Then there's Gimp that's just as good [only free].

I have decided that I will update the Worms Armaggedon (Version 3) to the lastest version so that it can use the PNG maps. In one of the replies PNG maps is the best to use. Try and get of the program "Photoshop".

I think it this problem has now been sorted.

Thanks for the help

but my self-created PNG maps were showing some error about some pallettePNG is a lossless format. The only possible ways for those dots to appear are if you had put them there, you used a very strange colour-reduction algorithm, or if it was originally saved as a JPG or some other lossy format.

First, make sure your map is the following:

* A bitmap, a targa, a bit file, a lev file, a jpeg, or a png file
* 64 colour is recomended
* 1920 x 696 px in size is recomended, so your map will not become distorted

Then, if it has an extention of .bmp, .tga, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, put it in the Worms Armageddon\User\Import folder, e.g.
C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\User\Import. You can then access these by clicking the floppy disk in the WA map editor.
If it is a .bit, .lev or .png, put it in Worms Armageddon\User\SavedLevels folder, e.g.
C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\User\SavedLevels. You can then access these by clicking the arrow next to the list box in the WA map editor.

That's also worth reading. Found it inside a sticky on top of this forum. Note also that PNG maps work with up to 112 colours in the palette.

yes importing a bitmap with those specs using worms armageddon is flawless. It is no good however taking your jpegs, then converting to bitmap obviously.

Maybe upload the map so we can see it?
