View Full Version : My first ever try at a forum comic!!!

Yes, the time has come to show my ideas and hopefully not embarass myself too much at the same time. Please don't critiscise my comic drawing skills as I have this weird way of drawing worms, okay?
Erm, does anyone know a place where I can host an image?
It's dimensions are a bit big...

Personally, as long as it's clear and the writing's good enough, I won't give a damn about the actual quality of the art.

This is of course pending on the clarity and writing quality.

Not if someone uses the direct link instead of the regular one.
It uses more bandwidth for their site, but oh well.
Funny... i always thought that criticism was the whole point of this...
Exactly.
By posting it on this site, you are posting it in public, and we'll say what we want.

You should remember that criticism is a lot more helpful than praise. I see some artists that ask for criticism even when their pictures are nutty good. After all, criticism is probably how they GOT that good. Praise gets you pretty much nowhere.

Okay then, critiscise, but don't bee TOO harsh, like "Oh, that's CRAP, why don't you just give up and get lost nobody likes your toons!"
Something tactful like "I would say on the whole that that's not a very good cartoon and I think you should revise your style a little (or a lot)."

NICE WORK!!!
I LIKE IT...
Wow. It's a perfect representation of what I was talking about. :p

Anyway, it looks okay, but that's probably because your sigworm is totally featureless. I'll need to see more.
Though I'd suggest a horizon line, rather then having the characters stand on the panel.

Okay, I will draw some more worms, and I will make sure of a horizon. I normally only draw horizons when there is a Japanese-style battle going on.

The numbers are real nice though. There is that.

You know, an alternative to saying "hey I'm making a comic, who wants to be in?" is to actually decide for yourself who you want in. That way your comic gets off the ground much faster, and you get more artistic control over where you want the story to go.

I was also going to say "if you don't have a story yet, why are you drawing this?", before I realised that the first six strips of MAPP* (and the vast majority of the ACC** and TYDM*** strips) were just plotless character-based jokes. So instead of just sitting there waiting for a story to arrive, do stuff. Make simple jokes based off of whatever. Eventually, you'll get a story idea and things can move on. But stand-alone jokes that aren't part of a wider plot are a good way to find your feet.

I actually quite like the "cyclops" look: it's certainly distinctive, and a divider of some sort would kinda break the charm a little.

:DIn other words, you've revived this thread to tell us that:

1. You've stopped making the comic (We'd kinda gathered that: a shame, because it had a non-zero amount of potential).

2. You won't be doing any comic-making over the next three and a bit months either (Has to be said, what will you be doing that will so occupy your time?).

3. After those three and a bit months, you will start learning Flash.

4. An unspecified amount of time after that, you will be starting an animated Forum comic (and given your unreliability with your current one, that unspecified amount of time could be very long).

I don't wish to sound harsh because, as I say, you started vaguely promisingly. Basically, what I want to say is: "Don't just sit there, Muttley! DOOOO something!"

He has to change the date in the computer so the trial can last longer than 30 days.
He wants to get the real thing so he won't have to do that, and can have the correct date on the computer.

I'd just recommend putting a calendar on your wall. It's more helpful, anyway.

I'd only worry about buying flash when you might make a big thing out of it (IE, a popular flash series or if you're making any sort of financial profit off of it.)
