View Full Version : Hosting problem...

For some strange reason, I can't host!

I have all the correct ports forwarded... turned off my firewall... the correct IP is in worms and the ''force IP'' box is checked... Yet still I can't host!?

I'm completely stumped... Does anyone have any other ideas on what I should do? Or maybe a good program?

Thanks alot in advance,
STREAKOF****.

Perhaps check whether your ISP has changed your IP. They've done it to my [static, they assure me] address about 4 times recently, forcing me to update it in several programs.

But wouldn't www.whatismyip.com detect this change? Is it the address of my router or the address of my computer I use? How do I find the address of each one?

I've also just tried using wormNAT, but no luck there either, it automatically configured itself ok, but just couldn't connect to ''SOCKS''.

You input your internet IP in the Worms game at the configeration menu, and you forward the ports to your computers network IP.

Internet IP: www.whatismyip.com

Network IP:
- (Windows XP) Start->Settings->Network Connections
- Click th eicon for your router
- At the bottom left, in the details section is will display your network IP where is says "IP Address"

Reading your post, I have no idea why it doesnt work :|

Is your IP address a static one? Or is it dynamic, changed everytime you log on?
If so, www.no-ip.info (http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html) can help.

My IP is static... There really is NO reason whatsoever why I shouldn't be able to host, but for some strange reason I just can't. I have 2 computers sharing the same IP, one connected directly to the router and modem, and the other using a wireless network card to connect to the router and uses the internet that way... For worms I use the 2nd computer, the one using the wireless network card. Could the sharing of IP addresses and using only the wireless network adapter for internet access be the problem? I can't see why it should though...

AH!
M3ntal (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=2570) & Fraggle (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=35132) have the problem of not being able to host if both of them are online.

I'll try hosting on the other computer now (the one connected directly to the router and modem) and see what happens...

I'm no expert on routers, but if your network IP is 192.168.1.100, then shouldn't the IP numbers in the column in the picture be set to 100 as well?

yes.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Yeah CyberShdw is right - the router is trying to forward Wormnet data to the computer with a "1", but that computer might not even exist (or is the wrong one). You gotta forward it to your own computer.

I've had this problem before, but I can't host whether the two 0's are there or not, i've just tried now with ''100'' at the end, yet still no luck.

Has anyone else got ANY other ideas? Or absolutely anything else worth trying? This is really annoying; one day I could host fine, then the next I couldn't (yet changed none of my settings).

Well is your internal IP actually "100"?

Go to Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig

And find out

Yeah, it's definitely 192.168.1.100, is there anything windows may be blocking, I have turned windows firewall off but may it be automatically trying to block something while turned off?

Ok...

I have forwarded all required ports in Norton, AND disabled it...

Forwarded all required ports in windows firewall, and disabled that too...

Forwarded all the ports in my router settings... (as you can see here http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/3246/wscreen7vl.png)

Turned off all router firewall protection...

and input my correct IP address into W:A configuration...

Yet still can't host. Any suggestions? I really need help with this... Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

Um, another remark from a non-expert on routers, but the IPs in that screenshot still point to 192.168.1.1. You should set those IPs to the network IP of the computer on which you are trying to host.

The IP address is correct. I reinstalled my router, and got a new IP address. The forwarded ports now match the correct IP address so this has nothing to do with it.

Windows has its own firewall. If you have your own firewall disable it. In my opinion its a piece of crap.

Is there any way you can test your computer net connection without using a router (no experience in this whatsoever). If so (by this I mean normal modem connectivity) that would be best because then it would narrow the problem down

You didn't get the essence in Lex' post, did you? :)
His post was sarcastic and funny, while your post was plain redundant.

BTW, http://wa.team17.com is the correct one.

Hey Lex, yay I fixed it! The problem was to do with my router... When I disconnected it I could host, so I knew something in my router configuration was wrong... But I still rang my ISP to ask about ports being blocked (and made a complete fool of myself! He was practically laughing at me down the phone, and sounded really cocky... :o) Just did a master reset on the ol' thing, forwarded the ports, and all has been good ever since!

Thanks alot for the help, really appreciate it, couldn't have done it without ya. ;]

That's strange. I wonder what was wrong with your router configuration. We verfied that everything was PERFECT. It must have been some strange router setting I don't know about.
