View Full Version : The DS version isn't actually that bad...

I have it, and I can't see very many things wrong with it. Granted that the menu IS bad, but the gameplay is just like any other worms games. At least it's better than GBA WWP...

The ninja rope is the best yet on a handheld, and WHO CARES about having mayhem and destruction with all those STUPID weapons like the HHG and Concrete Donkey? STRATEGY, people!

In all, I think this is a good game, and would like to congratulate Team17/THQ/Gamesause (or whatever their name is) for doing the second best (after the PSP version) conversion of worms yet!

I'm glad you enjoy it. Play as much as you can, and be glad you spent your £30 well.

Just be careful you don't fall...

It seems like you're so easily pleased, Muzer. If that's the case, good for you.

I'd feel insulted by the shoddy work that went into the DS version by a third-party developer, just like Brownie Brown's APPALLING treatment of the Square Enix's Seiken Densetsu remake 'Sword of Mana' - non-existent A.I, bugs and glitches galore, crappy sound quality...

The last thing I want is for developers to think this type of crap is OK to put out into the market.

very many? so that means you have found faults in your precious game, doesn't it?

and if you want "real" strategy by some starcraft type game, Worms is all about the crazy weapons, man!

Yes, and which is why he said the menu was bad :p

Congratulations. You just forfeited your right to an opinion.

you have to agree, though, that the worms games have been becoming less and less strategic over the past years, hitting the rock bottom with w3d. i'm not sure if w4 is any better, i still need to try the full version.

I agree, I'd say this is one of the best DS games. I don't see much wrong with the game, I was excited, I never played a 2-D worms game before. This game is really good. It's tough aiming the bazooka though, and sadly there's no campagin mode. But the good points of the game cover up the bad points.

Ditto to everything you said. Sure, there's SOME problems (He said the menu!), but not really that many, and yes, the good points cover it up, like the game existing at all is a good point!:)

First, I was very happy to see a worms game for the DS, I had the choice (cause of money): Resident Evil: Deadly Silence or Worms Open Warfare. Because I liked weapons like the Holy Handgrenade or the Concrete Donkey, I bought OW. But now, I'm really disappointed of the game: AI bugs (Enemies jumping into the water), just the boring weapons and no missions with another target then "Kill the enemies".

That's really sad. :(

Ah, no wonder. You haven't been spoiled by Worms Armageddon for PC. You owe it to yourself to try it out, play online, master the ninja rope, and then play the DS version and start crying.

Have to say Resident evil Ds is just amazing. Ive not played any other resident evils, but I know theres a lot of replayability since you have 2 different modes, and 2 characters to choose from. Playing through all of them will take at least a couple of hundred hours.
Ive played W:oW for a total of 40 minutes.

By the way, I must be out of it, but when was a worms 4 announced? Will it be as bad as worms 3d? since I still get nightmares ove the camera angles and control system. It looks really good, and Im downloading the demo as we speak.

That wasn't what you'd call a smart move. I don't think anybody ever said or implied those weapons would be anywhere near the game. I mean, I'll grant you the bugs, but if you want a COncrete Donkey, buy a game that has Concrete Donkeys in it.

I bought a DS the other day and got W:OW free with it. After jumping straight through part of the landscape and receiving fall damage, and a homing missile passing straight through the intended target, i've come to the conclusion that yes, it really is that bad :(.

And there are so many other good combos you missed out on :(

That's not a very fair thing to say. The fact that it's a Worms game is implication enough that it has such weapons. I mean, there are more Worms games with these weapons than without after all.

Besides, the excitment of playing Worms on the DS is more than enough to make you neglect to check that an old favourite carries the weapons so closely associated with it. Isn't it a bit like saying "Nobody said Mario Kart would have red shells on the DS so you shouldn't hae expected them."?

I for one am disappointed to hear that Worms Open Warfare has omitted such classic weapons.

"Nobody said Mario Kart would have red shells on the DS so you shouldn't hae expected them."
Well yes, but if I bought a MarioKart game and discovered it didn't have red shells I wouldn't automatically hate the game for that. If it still played well and felt like MarioKart I wouldn't care what weapons it had. If I was buying the game exclusively for one feature I'd at least make sure it had that feature before I spent the money.

I think the fact that many of the weapons very closely associated with the Worms franchise have been omitted from this game is still somewhat upsetting.

It's not about one particular weapon. It's about a lot of weapons and functionality being stripped from the game we all know and love.

If weapons and functionality aren't what make Worms games so great then I don't know what is.

I for one am going to buy it and play it because I think I will still enjoy the game without these weapons and functions. That doesn't mean to say the lack of them is not a legitimate reason for not enjoying it.

Furthermore, the fact that nobody explicitly informed him that these classic weapons were omitted doesn't mean he shouldn't expect them to be there, hence my comparison to a fictional Mario Kart game.
