I've decided to put up links to various programs that are helpfull or usefull for creating any kind of art, now i am not going to post anything illiegal here, nor am i going to post any hack or keygens, i'm just posting the legal, free sutff or some trials to popular programs.

Paint Programs

THE GIMP (http://www.gimp.org)- that name always makes me laugh :D great program, lot's of features, much like paint shop pro

ART RAGE (http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html)- great program that uses life like tools

DOG WAFFLE (http://www.squirreldome.com/cyberop.htm) *thanks to philby* i'm preety sure it was philby who found this program, also a good program, can be used to create animations.

PIXIA (http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/) as u can probably tell by the name, this program is used for pixel art.

Drawing For Children (http://www.cs.uu.nl/people/markov/kids/draw) i found this one while looking for game maker, it's preety sad actually....don't know why i'm posting it here

paint.net (http://eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net) like MS paint but has all of the features that MS paint is missing. WARNING: in order for it to work u will need some program (forgot the name) wich requires another program (also forgot the name)

TUXPAINT (http://newbreedsoftware.com/tuxpaint) also a preety sad program

I.MAGE (http://www.memecode.com/image) also a program used for pixel art

IFORGE (http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_imw_d) a preety decent program, capable of animations too.

PSP (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Downloads/Trials) no not playstation portable, paint sho pro, a good program, but this is only the trial for it.

Animation programs
some programs that i mentioned above can be used for animating but i think they are better off for drawing.

PIVOT (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/stickfigure.html) the most simplest program for animating stickfigures that uses models so if u make a model of a work it can be used to create worm animations.

PIVOT (http://groups.msn.com/pivotanimation) this is the latest version of pivot and this time u can load sprites into ur ani's, u need to be a member of that group though to be able to download it, it's free don't worry ;)

EASYTOON (http://superfundungeonrun.com/easytoon) a program that can make black and white animations.

Flash MX (http://tucows.com/preview/194917) wow their website (www.macromedia.com) is like a maze, so i just posted a link to flash MX from tucows.

3D modeling

anim8or (http://www.anim8or.com) yeah..most of u know this one

BLENDER (http://www.blender.org) a great program

3D links (http://www.3dlinks.com/links.cfm?categoryid=1&subcategoryid=2) not a program, a website with lots of links to 3D modeling programs, there is too much for me to post 1 by 1 here.

that's all folks, have fun! may the geeks be with you :p i always wanted to say that.
oh yeah and if u have anything else to add to the list feel free to do so.

http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/ The entire page of Macromedia downloads. You're going to need to register to download the trials, though.
Click on "try" in the flash professional/basic 8 row to get a trial of Flash 8. It's newer than Flash MX, and has layers and effects and other good stuff.

paint.net (http://eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net) like MS paint but has all of the features that MS paint is missing. WARNING: in order for it to work u will need some program (forgot the name) wich requires another program (also forgot the name) .NET Framework 2.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en)

Also, I'm surprised nobody linked to the popular Adobe programs: PHOTOSHOP (http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=39) and ILLUSTRATOR (http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=27) (registration required to download the trials)

http://picasa.google.com/

More for photo editing than anything else, yes, but it definately helps to do stuff that other programs couldn't do. It also organises all pictures stored on your computer in a rather ingenious fashion, meaning you can clean out the stuff you don't want and find loads of old drawings you had forgotten about. It's free, no experienced required, and I would personally reccomend to anyone, even if you're not the sort of person that takes any sort of interest in photo imaging.

Nice little program for 3-D computer graphics. Very easy to learn, and completely free. If you've ever tried Blender, and only got frustration out of it, this is for you. You can go here for more info about it: http://www.caligari.com/Products/trueSpace/tS3/resources/default.html

I agree, the site's layout is terrible.
