The avatars would have to be drawn by the same artist though.
I really like the idea of having all our avatars made by the same artist - then the "other" people can't really copy us.

The fruit idea sounds good. However, if we want this to be successful we all need to:
1) Decide which fruit we will have and make sure all the avatars are in the same style
2) Decide which date we are going to do it
So, for 1 - Are we having just 1 fruit each or are we having 2 or 3?
Now, whenever we try and decide on a date for something, most of the time we never decide on a date so I'm saying Wednesday 26th just so that we have a date set. If anyone wants to change it, feel free but make sure everyone knows the date change.
PS I would like a pineapple :p

Futureworm - Pomegranate

Pigbuster - Raisin
SupSuper - Orange
Monkeyforahed - Eggplant
Splapp, if it isn't already too late, could you draw each fruit with a piece of it cut out (where it makes sense)?
So that it is easier to recognize, as the inside of some fruits are also very distinctive.
Or draw 2 pieces of each, one as a whole, the other cut.

Ooh, pointy.
I was waiting until almost everyone had picked something before i started drawing them, so i'll get doing them soon. I'll draw them with a segment out of them (where possible). I was wondering if they should have faces as well? It'd kind of make it even harder for them to copy that way... hmm, let me know.
Faces? Hmm.
Maybe sad, painful faces because a segment is missing. :)
Star Worms
23 Apr 2006, 14:34
I think we should just have fruit, no faces. There doesn't seem any point to having a face on a fruit.
Maybe we should put all the fruits used in our sigs and if anyone decides to copy by using a lemon or something we can just put something like "There is no lemon" etc.

So do we try to make a smaller Pineapple with transparency (and get Star Worms to use it), ignore it, or flatten all of them?

Nope. It's a PNG on my hard disk. And, as far as Photoshop and the Finder are concerned, it's a PNG
Photoshop opens it up as it should be, with the punchy colours and transparency, but when I uploaded it as my avatar, it had a grey background and bland, dull colours.
I even tried hosting it on imageshack - loads fine in imageshack, but direct link to it in my avatar CP, and it goes nasty.

Well you're doing something wrong somewhere, because Opera never lies.
I've just totally done away with the transparency, and put the blue retro forum colour in as the background, and saved it as a GIF (interlaced & no interlace), JPEG and PNG from Photoshop, and every single time it looks the same - all grainy, "flat" colours and a little white border around the bottom and right edges.
I think something's wrong with the forum.....
Just put in the image location when you change your avatar:
http://forum.team17.co.uk/attachment.p...d=11460489 89
That will still upload it to the server and not just make a link, right?
Nope - doesn't have a valid extension.
I hosted the PNG on Imageshack yesterday - downloaded it from the forum and re-uploaded it to Imageshack - it looked fine there, but as soon as I put the image address into the forum, it went JPEGgy - something's broken on the forum, I think....
Edit:
Heck, it even goes ugly if I upload it as a JPEG!!! Looks like the forum is compressing it to about level 3 or 4, and I saved it as 8 on Photoshop
One other problem could be my uni's proxy server screwing things up...
worMatty
27 Apr 2006, 14:49
The problem is that Splapp's image is 101x101, and the forum is resizing it, which introduces compression and knocks of the transparency. I presume it converts it to a JPEG, unfortunately.
Here's a smaller version with the canvas size reduced:
I have edited my avatar a bit.
It's a GIF with transparency and all the useless space removed.
Colors seem to be as good as in Splapp's original image.
I also used the magic wand in Photoshop with the anti-aliasing option turned off and manually erased a few pixels to get rid of that grey pixels on the borders.

Can this be the last avatar fad for a while (like a year or so...) - people will start to get wise to there being a secret forum, and we want to keep this place as secret as possible, don't we? We've had our fun for now, so when this fad has died out, let's wait a good few months before doing the next, and then surprise everyone again.

I'll take a piece of fruit if Splapp doesn't mind. The berries will do if no-one else has taken them. If you would like to do this for me, Splapp, would it be possible to make a couple look like they've dropped off, and give them each a smiley face? It'll be like the Robinson's ad (or similar). If not then I'm not bothered.
Noooo don't give the fruit smiley faces!

I don't think thet really know. At least, they don't know about it enough.
In any case, I think we've reached the point in which side is trying to be cleverer than the other and in the end none of them are. No offense, but I think we've become pretty childish.
Yes, we have a secret forum. Yes, they don't. Yes, every once in a while we like to pick fun at them since they don't see it. But when we reach the point we make use of the secret forum just to poke fun at them, it's just silly. What with the avatar fads, the n00bish threads and all that, we're just acting like little kids who have a club and pick fun on the ones that aren't in it. The one reason we pick fun at the "outsiders" is because we're more mature. But picking fun at them just for the sake of it is just ridiculous. Clearly they're not that dumb that they'll just keep taking the same excuses and jokes without eventually figuring something out. The point of OD was where we could have rational people have rational discussions, or even irrational discussions, without flames, problems or any other such. Yes we can pick fun of them all we want, but with a reason. Now we're just picking at them because we can. There's still many forum members that aren't that stupid and could've probably been let in here without worries. Even people like Iguana or Akuryou. But if we just pick on them they won't improve, heck, we'll just be making them worse, and having less and less choices for new ODers. You all probably noticed how much active OD became when we got some "new blood" in here, but if we keep this up, it'll grow stale pretty soon.
I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I feel this had to be said, probably a long time ago.
