maple story is good, unless you pick the wrong stats for whichever class your gonna be....if you choose the wrong stats, you wont be able to buy all the new armour at the right lvls, SO PLEASE LISTEN!

if you want to be a mage, upgrade your int and dex
if theif, luk and dex
if warrior, strength only i believe
if bowman dex and one other i forgot, just look at the stat requirements on some bowman armours in shops...

if you have chosen wrong and are having to get new armour slightly late, like my first ever character.....you might as well start your character again....

EDIT: the best tactic id recommend to be safe is dont improve on a stat until your asked to or need to when buying an armour...
and btw, i now have new armour so i finaly look like a proper mage now, yay! i got this really cool staff to...

Going on from what Oft said If your a thief ((( like me )) When you get to level 30 will will want to get the job advancement, (( Duh! )) Now for those who Prefer bandit there are 2 types of bandit!

the luck bandits:
Who deal out max damage with ease but get stuck with rather Naf weapons BUT ! we level alot faster!


the strenth bandits:
Who get better weapons but do Less damage and are less acurate and level just that bit slower, but get cooler lookin stuff

I myself am a luck bandit-sin but thats another matter

Find a spot where you can attack it by jump-attacking. You stand just a jumphight away from the spot the Mushroom is. I did this trick too and you wont get hurt

If youre still on MapleIsland, then theres a room just abouve the enterance to Ardmei (or whatever its called) that is great for orange mushrooms. Theres one ledge that you can attack them without them hurting you.

And advice to warriors:
Luk and Int are rarely needed.
Dex is needed, but only for taking down stronger opponents.
MP will be used, but not much.
To become a warrior, you must be level 10, but you must have 35 STR too

just an FYI Maplers: A new pach has been launched, I tried to down load it but I've seen tectonic plates move faster... You have to change your pin though... (YES YES YES!:D :D :D )

I disagree with the "simpler" statement of that. it's just as complex if not more-so. yes, the lower levels are basic, but so is every MMORPG. I've watched video of some of the dungeons in MS, and they appear to be similar to obstacle courses and such from SNES games such as Zelda. the bosses also appear far more difficult than those on GW. IMO, the GW bosses are simplistic and require little to defeat, with the exception of the final mission.

The monsters begin to get more powerful and more difficult to defeat at higher levels. A lot of the high level monsters will attack back and can be very dangerous. Bosses are especially difficult to defeat... zakum, clockboss, balrog, etc.

However, maple story requires very little skill in its fighting style. Most fighting is simple, attack and use potions. I recommend making an assassin theif because they are more entertaining to play and are more skillful in their fighting style. For example. with warriors you will basically walk up to your enemy and spam attacks/potions until you defeat it. You will do a lot of jumping around and dodging things with assassins.

Anyone who plans on playing Maple Story for a while, I recommend that you play JMS because it is a lot better. There is already a large community of English players on the Kaede server.

Its to over packed and overated Imo ...sure its ahead of us but...i dunno it just seems....

I guess it depends on your timezone. In North/South America almost all the people on JMS are sleeping or busy when we play... the server is very empty. Yet, there are usually enough people to PQ with. JMS Kaede is very empty compared to the horrors of OMS Scania.

Water taoists are best to get reborn into. But suck as a starting class.

A whole other thing is, I found a door but I can't get in, the text says:
There's a door that'll leed me somewhere, but I can't seem to get in there.
Does it require a special level? If there is something in there then please don't spoil the fun.

There is a door by Jeff in El Nath that requires you to be level50+ to pass through.

There are also Door of Dimesions scattered around the Maple Story world that are used to enter another dimension where you fight your cloned job instructor. It is part of the Test of Power you must take to advance to the 3rd job. (Level70+)

Goto the 3-way split in the Lith Harbor region. There is a secret portal located by some yellow flowers. Stand in front of them and press up. At hidden street there is a Blue Star indicating exactly where you need to stand.

Pig beach is usually very crowded. There is also 1 Iron Hog that you need to beware of. If you hit it, you can make him stop following you by changing channels and coming back or by entering the cash shop.

There are at least 100 hidden maps located throughout the maple world. Some of these are really difficult to find on your own (pig beach), and some are fairly easy to find (mushmom). If you see doors or strange looking things, try pushing up to check. Along with hidden portals there are also teleport spots hidden on some maps that will teleport you to a different location on the map. These save a lot of time if you find them.

that's exactly how it is, every day you just have to level up agein and agein, sucks alot...but as i said there is an option of paying a monthly fee so u could save.

I used to play Graal, I was even in a clan, and had tons of weapons (in the city level, and most of them stolen). Well... actualy my subscribtion paying buddies held the weapons for me while I was gone, but they were still mine. I even made money by selling the codes to the Auron (from FFX) costume, because they weren't very widely known. Long story short I got bored with it and stopped playing, it was fun while it lasted. That was ages ago though...

It's not nearly as good as Maple Story but it's free, so I guess I'll recommend Well of Souls website: http://www.synthetic-reality.com/wosHome.htm It's pretty good, I you can even make custom character skins so you can look however you want, although other players will just see you as a generic charcter unless they click on you and ask to download the skin you're using, which kinda takes the fun outa custom skins. You stil got quite a few official skins you can choose from so I guess that works.

Why doesn't Maple Story work anyway? Do you have a Mac (in which case I don't thin Well of Souls will work either) or is it something else?


Also, back to MS, anyone here gone to Ludibrium yet? I think it's a nice place, I would recommend a higher level than I have (I'm a lvl. 25 archer) Maybe somewhere in the 30's, but I managed to survive the trip down Eos Tower to photograph the workers, although I went through about 150 red potions, and died on the way back up :o

no i have windows, and it doesn't work due to my crappy video card, and also well of souls has got to be the crappiest game i have ever played, i think it's even worse than runescape..heck i miss runescape for some reason.

I collected 20 pig heads while killing them trying to level up and decided to sell them as they can sell for around 5k each. One guy traded me and offered me 1k for all 20 because they were worth 30 mesos in the shop...

Well, when I was a 1X archer, I must have had 5 or more different people trying to sell me arrows for anthing to 2 to 4 mesos each, when I could buy them in the store for 1 meso, or make 1000 for only 10 sticks and 1 feather. Talk about stupid, what did they think I was, a noob?!?!:rolleyes:

Anyway, nice video. Watching bideos like this is part of what keeps me motivated to keep leveling. There are plenty more available at www.youtube.com, just do a search for maple story or something like that.

I haven't seen any hackers. Plenty of scammers, but as long as you're aware of the worth of items, and don't do anything you aren't supposed to do anyway, like trading for NX cash, you should be fine.

And yeah, the grind is starting to get to me to. I was playing pretty much nothing but MS and fighting to get to second-job advancement as fast as possible. Now I' mjust taking a more casual approach, and actually enjoying it more, even though I'm only making about 15% a day in EXP.

Iwould ditch GMS for JMS in an instant if only I could read JApenese. But not being able to read item decription, quests and everything like that... I couldn't stand it. Don't know how naming charcter would work with an English keyboard either, not to mention I wouldn't be able to use chat.

If I was ever going to learn a second-language, I would choose Japenese, but there aren't any classes offered at my college for Japenese, and I 'd rather not try to teach myself.

I switched to JMS partly because the majority of high level players on scania are bad people. Japanese children in general are much more polite and respectful because of the different parenting style.

JMS is also less crowded, has higher exp rates, more maps (although oms is catching up now), better economy, more scrolls and items, etc.

There is a large English speaking community in the Kaede server which is nice. Yet it is still a small close-knit community which means most people know each other. (more like the worms community)

Doing quests, buying/selling stuff, PQing, and all that stuff is fairly easy to do even though it is in Japanese. Babel Fish and A Drop of Maple allow me to translate anything I need to know in the game. Even PQing is easy because the Japanese people are very organized. Every PQ has a system that is followed for higher efficiency. The only main problem with the language issue is it can become very difficult to converse with Japanese people directly. Although I rarely need to converse with them... it still would be nice to.

Level55 assassin now and I am almost out damaging my lvl72 sins. :D

No 4th job yet... none of the MS have 4th job yet.

The last JMS patch added the Zombie Mushmom, gold slimes, some quests, and a few other things. But for some reason, they didn't release these new monsters into the game world yet. You can only see them in events at the moment.

I don't like how they have made warriors so crap in this game. Warriors should always do the most damage, and take the most damage. Always. What's the point if they do the least damage and take the most damage? It makes no sense.

A level 13 magician would probably be equal to a level 27 warrior like myself in terms of how long it takes them to kill something. I can't believe the game makers got this part of the game so wrong.

Actually warriors are very strong in the game. They are good from about lvls 1 - 10 & lvls 60+, but they sorta suck at levels 10 - 50. Spearman do the most damage of the warriors and they get the skill hyperbody which doubles hp/mp for everyone in a party.

I believe they still do the most, but their attack is a little slower. Fighters have combo attack which allows them to do huge damage but they can only do it every 5 attacks.

There is a high demand for dragon knights in boss parties.

Assassins at the strongest class in the game at the moment. They are also the most common, and therefore... the most expensive.

It makes no sense.not always true. in traditional MMORPGs, warriors exist to stop other people from taking damage. warriors have skills which let them deal good amounts of damage, but their primary goal is to take the damage from the other classes so that everyone stays alive. now, in MS I have no idea if it's balanced or not, but if it is, then a warrior should kill something not quite as fast as any other class, but take less hp percentage. in either case, the warrior should be able to kill nearly as fast as other classes, there should never be a large gap. the thing that makes up for the time difference is that warriors should be able to kill for much longer before they have to use a health potion or rest for regeneration. if they can't, then the game is gimp :p

I don't know if they can go longer or not, but I definetly know they can rest and heal much faster. REally though, I've been watching multiple MS forums, and the general consensus is that Mages are extremely easy early on, thives are okay, and archers and warriors just plain suck until later levels. Howver, in both archers and warriors, they own later.

The best thing to do is find the class that you enjoy best or that you think you will enjoy the best. Every class their high and low moments in the game.

Every class has their advantages and disadvantages.

my computer has been running slower than ever, any thoughts why? well, you may have downloaded a horrible virus....or your hardware could be wearing down.....or something may have caused something to be reading your RAM incorrectly and will eventually cause your RAM to fail....or miniature dolphin-beavers could be infesting your mother board, making dams out of all the computer chips...who knows?

Keep cleaning you computer from old files or files you don't need, and check for spyware.

(*STORY TIME*) When I was younger I also noticed my computer was getting slower and slower, didn't know why the heck, then *MAGIC PART OF STORY TIME* I GREW UP AND I LEARNED WHY! :o Then I noticied I had not one, not two, but 15, that's right, 15 virus/viruses/bananas. And a messed up/defected hard drive.

It was a Windows 95 anyway so it didn't got much faster. :( :p

Another handy trick is to goto "Run" in your start menu and type in "msconfig". Goto the "startup" tab and remove any programs you do not need/want running when you start your computer. As you add stuff to your computer there are often programs that get added to this list and run in the background of your computer... sucking up your precious resources.

This is also a good way to manually spot any spyware, viruses, keyloggers, etc.

But yeah... play JMS with me Zeps, it is so much better.

Yeah Oms has stupid people, but I like that. The only reason why I would play Jms is because they have more stuff there, but buying cash shop items would be impossible. Im probably not going to buy anything however... so i don't know

I loved Maple Story when I was at your level, it was wondrous. But about the time I hit lvl 30, the grind just got to me. Not to discourage you REnBB, but can anyone tell me the point of leveling? You spend hours to increase one level, and for what? A small increase in ability, so you can fight a few more monsters, and go a few more places. What's the good of fighting those monsters and going to those places? Why, to level up some more of course! REally, what can I do at lvl 200, that I can't do now, that's really meaningful? A few abilities yes, fancier clothes yes, and that's about it. I estimate it would take me about 15 hours of gameplay to go from where I am (lvl30) to lvl 35. And that will only increase as time goes on. What's the point? Right now I'm ready to say, if anyone wants my stuff, I'm really considering giving away everything, unless someone here can give me a good reason to keep playing.

Leveling does not get you anything, it is a video game. Leveling just adds to the change in the game so that it remains interesting. I would have quit ages ago if I was still killing green slimes. The higher level you get, the more addicting the game gets.

Did you use a MSN hotmail/other online email? then your screwed as it only uses e-mail from your ISP (e.g: Name@aol.com)

Uh, I used the my college email Name@mail.vccs.edu and it worked fine. It took a few hours, but that could of been them, or it might of been the slow college systems.

Heh, I used to be addicted to this game. Played it since the original "beta" version of Global came out Sept/Oct 2004. I have a L.98 Chief Bandit on Scania but I'm retired from that BS... Some of my hardcore buddies are now L.120+ -_-;

And I'm just saying WoW because I know Aku plays it, but I'm curious about other MMORPGs as well. well, the grinding in every RPG sucks. it's a flaw with the genre, but the main thing in WoW that makes it better is there are distractions from the grind.
in MS, when you're grinding, you're grinding to get to the max level and the whole time you're doing it just to say you've done it, really. in WoW you can deviate from the grind by going into some PvP or dungeons to distract yourself from the grind so that it doesn't get too old. once you've finished the grind in WoW, you start getting into the interesting PvP action as well as the raiding, which adds quite a bit to the game. I don't know enough about MS to say whether it's worth getting to max level or not, but the grind is so boring that it doesnt' seem worth it. in WoW, the grind isn't QUITE as boring, but only because there are more skills to play with. the only real reason WoW is more fun while grinding is the fact that you can do other things to get away from the grind for a little while, or you can go through dungeons that you enjoy and grind by doing them a bunch of times instead of just randomly killing things.

Since then I've joined another game called FlyFF, and I think that one is better. IT's too early to tell yet, but I like the way they do PVP. They don't have a set area for PVP, instead there are PVP and non-PVP channels. Also, you can post a bounty on another PK'er, or hunt a PK'er and collect the bounty. I'm to weak to really participate yet, but I think it's a nice concept. They also have guild wars, including some official competitions. Besides, call me shallow, I like 3D better than 2D.

Hackers are a bigger problem in people's behavior.

I mean, I'm a lvl 94 crusader, 100% legit player, never used any hacks of any sort and played the game for about 15 months to get this far...
You see a hacker with name X, a lvl 50 fighter... the next week you see the character again, but lvl 80..
De-moralizing.... really bad for other people's gaming experience.

The report system sucks for these reasons:
1. You can only report once a day. (even if you see a thousand hackers)
2. The fact that (i think) the GMs have to go to the place where the hackers are
3. It dosent take screen shots (report system)

ok! I've come to one conclusion: When I play this game, I want to have some fun... All those people hacking and getting upset like "OMG YOU STOLE MY DOOR!!! *defames*" seem not to enjoy the game, just trying to be its life... (this is not for anyone around here)

So now I prefer to play from time to time, but not being there too much.

I have a lv 49 assasin, by the way :p

I finally managed to connect to Maplestory, but i am going to start a new character (in Windia), since my previous one was a magician (in Broa), wich i think is a stupid class. My new character will be a Bowman for sure.
Plus, i visited Amoria too, and it seems like a beautiful place ^_^

It depeneds:
1- The skill sistem is actually nice. If it comes as a 1 player game, it can even have something.
2- If it's only Multiplayer... you can get it free on the PC :p

Eh, there are so many other DS imports worth getting right now, a singleplayer Maplestory isn't really worth it.*plays some more Jump Ultimate Stars* :p

The link of the "all countries" Maplestory isn't working. I downloaded the BitTorrent one.

I downloaded this thing, got on Bera. And I'm thoroughly confused.
Now if I want to be a thieve, what skills should I upgrade? And does that means I shouldn't touch other skills, or just improve those more than the rest? What about HP and MP?

ok... let's see... about those 3 begginer skills, upgrade whatever you want. They'll be useless later. But the snail thing may be fun :)

about the stats: add luk, specially, and dex for the equips you want to wear... do the math so it's able to wear from the first level you can. Dex adds accuracy, but thieves have a very high accurcy by themselves, so with just the needed dex, you'll hit practically always (that, if you don't hit something overpowered for your level, that is :p) luk adds more damage.

about the skills: when you reach level 10, and with 25 dex (if I remember correctly), you can become a thief in kerning city (as the people about dark lord). Then, if you want to become an assasin (sin for short) you should never add sp into double stab. That's for dagger users, the bandits (dit for short), while assasins use claws and stars. while if you choose to become a bandit, do not add into lucky seven and keen eyes. Something like this:

-dit: double stab (max recomended, if not, dark sight), set disorder on 3, dark sight, and max nimble body.
-sin: lucky seven maxed (this is used almost forever), maxed keen eyes, maxed nimble body. Set 3 on disorder, then, the rest on dark sight.

Assasins: they attack from far, using stars, that need to be recharged in stores when they are used. You'll need money to recharge them, and money is needed to keep it good. They can shot in the air, and it's fun to hit with them later, on level 30, you'll get new skills like haste, to run and jump more, booster, to shot even faster, and drain, to leech hp from monsters. (look the skills for assasins, and hermits for level 70)

Bandits: they attack in close range, so you'll take damage more, but the avoidability is high, too, so less than warriors. I don't have a bandit, so I don't know how it is (my character is an assasin) but people say it's fun to play with them too. on level 70, they get meso explosion, which lets you blow up money, and make insane damage... but if you overuse it, you'll get poor in no time :p (check the skills... they have haste too)

So, choose whatever you want, and if you screwed your stats, redo the character. Leveling to level 10 is the easiest part. Good luck.
