I must be completely mad to be doing this, but drawing 12DoC made me hanker for the days when my comic writing was one of the forum's "big things". Of course, the vets will have seen all the jokes before and the newbies won't get them because you had to be there, but I felt it was worth a shot seen as I'm a better drawer now (Relative term, I'll admit).

I'd already randomly remastered MAPP 47 (the Ghostbusters/SLORG OWNAR one-off) here (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/19514897/), so there was a precedent...

So I thought I'd start out with Series 3, the duelling storyline. Given that contains MAPP 20, the most copied of all the MAPPs (Three remakes compared with zero for all the others, that is), I thought it would be rather a laugh. You can also comment on how much my LOLOLOLOLing has improved :p.

For those wondering what I'm rambling on about, tough. The thread the originals were posted in appears to have vanished so I can't link to it for comparison. If I'm pushed, I'll provide some more explanation.

So here we go, with the first three remasters (MAPPs 18 through 20)

No, they [threads] don't, or at least in other forums bar the FanArt forum.

Paul.Power
12 Jan 2006, 12:47
Hey, I've just had a thought... Why doesn't SW just stab Zeor in the head? The spinny thing is only going around his middle...Pick one of the four following explanations:

Of course Zero's helmet is made of stuff a lightsaber can't cut through. If it wasn't, he'd kill himself every time he hit himself on the head.
Star Worms' reach isn't large enough to hit Zero's head without his belly touching the Z-Saber.
"We live in a world where I forget to put the floor in 80% of the time. Just be grateful you have something to stand on."
I don't want any cast members to die.

(Continuity? What's that?)

Lawd
12 Jan 2006, 13:15
Well, I don't really care whatever happens, just so long as something does happen. I just wondered. Besides, you could just bring him back the next comic with a severe headache or something. Or even just a few characters commenting that he died. Hell, you could make an entire comic out of that - although, when it comes to comics, you're lazier than Aku (no offence to either of you). The ideas would certainly go with the general cartoony feel you're so good at. :)

EDIT: Oh, and I can shoot that second reason down quite easily. Zeor seems to be holding his Beam Sword (or whatever the hell it's called) relatively close to his body, but if SW stands on tiptoes (tiptail?) and sort of pokes his Lightsabre at Zeor's head at arm's reach, he should be able to do it.

Paul.Power
12 Jan 2006, 22:42
Lawd, these are remasters. You already know the plot, assuming you've read the originals. So suggestions aren't really going to make much difference, particular one that would involve the failure of LOLOLing as that would completely change the outcome of the storyline.

Explaining away plotholes, as evidenced by option No. 3 (my personal favourite), was never a strong point of the series. It's a mix of in-jokes, character-based humour and random pop culture references. I will admit that it's not the most tightly scripted or well thought out of comics, but as long as people kept getting the jokes, I was happy.

I felt like doing a group pic, and this seemed to be a novel way of doing it, "Stephen Biesty's Incredible Cross Sections" style. And of course, those drawings traditionally try to have at least one person sitting on the loo... ;)

Downside is, the FanArt room is really only big enough to accomodate six of you, and give you all decent jokes. I'll try to stick some of the other artists elsewhere, though.

THAT is Agent Luke? It looks more like you, without the thick goggles and pencil. :pIt will become more obvious when I give him his traditional greeny-yellow skin colour ;).

AT because he's facing backwards and by that logic the tail should be coming out of the page or it gets horribly contorted, at least to my mind.

*And applies for position in 'Games Discussion' section of the pic*Very well. What qualities do you believe you will bring to the Games Discussion section of the pic?

EDIT: If you're curious, I've already planned out what most of the currently empty rooms will contain:

Top floor: Games Discussion and other related stuff like the various individual games forums. So far all I've thought of is Run and his unparalleled collection of Worms ideas, but I'll think of others. The small room will have Sel and Spadge in it.

Second floor: First room is my lab, will feature me (duh) and Error404 and Pigbuster in their continued critting of my art. Second room I've termed the "Waka Laka Laka Room" :p.

First floor: You already know it, Fan Art and User Mods.

Ground floor: The loo, Online Orgy and K^2 complaining about being banned.

I dunno. :pHmm, that brings a whole lot of questions. If the hand gets stuck somewhere (eg. something heavy fell on it), would the worm also get stuck? Or could he just leave his hand there? Otherwise, how far could he go before being pulled by the "invisible arm"?

If the former, beats me as that's ComicGenesis' job. I have to put special tags into my code (as described here (http://gear.comicgenesis.com/)), and they convert that into "proper" web code.

If the latter, again I'm probably not the best person to ask. I'm a long way behind the times when it comes to designing and coding a website (the pros tend to recoil in horror when I tell them I still use a table-based layout). Try AndrewTaylor.

1: The top half of the front of the heads curves too much,
2: The bend at the top/back of the head should be pointier.
3: The chest should be slightly bended.

Paul.Power
23 Apr 2006, 16:13

Better, but the head is too thin and too tall.

AndrewTaylor
23 Apr 2006, 16:23

AndrewTaylor

The right eye looks bizarre. The left eye goes in front of it, suggesting bug-eyes, but it seems to curve round the worm's head like a texture map. Either stop them overlapping or allow the "back" eye to extend beyond the worm's head.

Also it's got that classic FanArt thing where it looks like it's in constant danger of toppling forward. It looks to me like the bottom left corner ought be sharper.

My apologies if someone else has already thought of this, but I can assure you that my idea was arrived at independently if so.
IIRC, it was done before. Can't remember who by though.

What are those '7'-like things at the bottom? That's for me to know and you to find out by looking at the bit in brackets.

A (misshapen) happy face?*bangs head on keyboard*

*specifically one particular key, over on the right hand side of the main block of keys*

It doesn't help that this certain key is called something else in other countries...

Oh, very well

Another name for the Enter key is the Return key. Those guys are return keys. And they're smiling. And there's a lot of them. Hence, "Many Happy Returns"

Oh... It's enter on my computer.

It's enter on mine, and the shape is like in your pic, but sightly different.

Ah. But plasma, IIRC, has an Apple computer.

It dates from the typewriter era when the button was called "Carriage Return" because it returned the carriage to the start of the line.

What the hell are you talking about?

BuffaloKid

Why he calls it the return key.

SuperBlob

Why he calls it the return key.
Let me be the first to say - are you talking about Paul.Power by any stretch of imagination?

good grief? what kind of geeks are you people when you don't even know what a return key is? .....truly a sad day in geekdom...

BuffaloKid

I know what a return key is. It was just barely recognisable as that from his pic.

Happy birthday, Error.
Hmm... Here's a thought.
If the front eye is half closed, such as Error in that pic, then should the eyelid overlap the other eye or should it be done like you did?

I know what a return key is. It was just barely recognisable as that from his pic.I'd say it rather obvious, especially considering the text just below :p

You'd say that now, but if you hadn't already read the explanation... It's like the bit about 'I could've thought of that' in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

Frankly, they look like perfectly normal Return/Enter keys to me. What threw me off was the smile, since usually the mouth is put right under the eyes, but I suppose you were trying to make the <-' act as the nose, or something.
