Why won't anyone reply?!?!?!?

do a search before posting a question like this. as it's probably been asked and answered before

I have looked and no-one actually answered the question!

this is for 2000 but the error looks similar

That was the right problem, but like I said it didn't really answer my question. I did download both the update and the patch, but they didn't work.

double post edit:

The exact error message is:
16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Close Ignore

- 1.1 Problems running WA under WindowsNT / 2000 / XP
Worms Armageddon was not designed to run under WindowsNT because of its current operating system limitations with DirectX (WA requires DirectX6).

The Worms Armageddon update (v3.0.5.0) is currently in Beta 2 and addresses the Windows 2000 Professional / Windows XP compatibility and also adds increased in-game resolution support and several new features and compatibility fixes. This update is in a continued state of internal development and testing. The update has been primarily released for external consumption in order to capture a greater range of system setups for compatibility purposes. See below for information on updating (http://wormsarmageddon.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=faqs#1.1)

How could he patch it? He can't install the game, which kind of makes patching it difficult, where by difficult I mean impossible.

Oops, i missed that, sorry...

I am having the same problem.

And it has nothing to do with patching/updating. The installer is faulty on particular configurations of Windows XP. Does ANYBODY have any information on this specific problem?

Please don't point us to the FAQ because there is no information relevant to us in there, I've looked.

Thank you,
Jason

Hmm, I've heard that this works on other products, but can't say whether it'll work for W:A.

1) Create a shortcut to the installation program on say, your desktop.
2) Right click the shortcut, choose properties. Click the compatibility tab.
3) Set the program to run in Windows98 emulation mode.
4) Try installation now using the shortcut (this should be the actually setup program btw, not a set-up 'helper' as seen on 'sold out' CD titles.

If you don't have the compatability tab, from a command prompt (when logged in as administrator) type

regsvr32 slayerui.dll

Actually, I dunno if you have administrators in XP Home. Well, you can figure that one out yourself.

That'll be the XP developers at Microsoft then.

It's not Team17's fault that WA wasn't designed to work from the start on an operating system that had not been developed.

Great, I'm being ignored again

You're not being ignored, it's just there's a lull between the point where it's dinner time in the UK, and the point that the US people get home from school/work/whatever. Not that you really deserve the help with that attitude.
E-mail Microsoft. It'll probably be ignored, but it can't possibly hurt to try.

Did you save it to C:\Windows\system32? Or did you extract it there?

The files that need to be replaced will be extracted by the following program.

http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/xp_fix.exe

Although it is a fix for another program, it will cause XP to run all 16-Bit programs without error messages, such as the one mentioned above!!

Forgive me for being skeptical but you have one post to your name, and you've posted a link to an executable file hosted on a marketing website that would have no interest in XP programs.

How can anyone possibly trust that?

All this install does is restore COMMAND.COM, AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT to the standard versions. It's basically the same thing as copying AUTOEXEC.NT from the repair folder to the system32 folder, but I don't see what would possibly corrupt command.com.
