Hey folks! Long time worms fan and although worms 2: Armageddon on xbox 360 is pretty good, I miss the wider array of weapons and customization options that the original W:A offered. My friends come over and we always play Worms on the xbox so I'm getting W:A on the PC now so I can use the tv as a monitor and we can play it! I've just purchased a "sold out" copy of worms 2 and W:A, the latter being what I'm wanting to play obviously.

So I've had a look at the forum and seemed to have a solution for being able to use an xbox 360 to control the game fairly well.

I have two other questions though...

1) This game seems to have tons of patches over the years. When I install the vanilla version (V1.0 I assume), can I just download the very latest patch (V 3.7.2.1) or is there a certain order I need to get them in?

2) What is the max resolution the game offers? I have heard originally it was 600x480 however patches sometime later may have increased this somewhat?

cheers for any info guys! :)

1) You can just get the newest update and it should work just fine.

2) As for the max res, it should support any res your machine supports.

(Edit: out of curiosity, what solution are you using for your controller solution?)

Well I haven't tried it yet, but there's another thread on this page concerning controller use and a member stated they used JoyToKey and posted a config file they used with it which they say supports the xbox controller well.

The front-end is locked to 640x480, the gameplay however can be set to almost any resolution your computer supports via the Game Options.

Ah I see thanks, I dug out my Playstation but because of the low res it looks pretty bad on my HDTV, hopefully this'll be better.

Oh one other thing. I see you can make your own maps on the PC version? Is this like another game I had where if you made an image on paint (for instance), different colours meant different things? So blue was water, brown was land, or something like that?

Black means no land (ie transparent), other colours are land.

yay got the game! Had some .dll file issue but the solution was to patch it to the latest patch on the team17 main site before trying to play.

I just looked in the options, one part of the graphics menu has options to pick something to do with how the game "draws" the game. By default its Directdraw 32-bit, I can pick Direct3D 9 (CPU) or Direct3D 9 (Shader), do I leave it with Directdraw or does changing that do anything?

Changing that can vastly affect graphical performance, for better or for worse. Direct3D9 (shader) is recommended for most modern systems, but note that there are issues with it with Windows 7 and multiple monitors. It will also make more overlay and screen recording apps that rely on Direct3D to work, such as the Steam overlay.

hmm yes there must be some issues. I just changed it to that and exited the game to re-start, now when I try and play the screen goes black and I get an error message saying it wouldnt run and an errorlog has been made.

Do I need to re-install now, since I can't access the game to change it back?

In the Worms Armageddon\Tweaks folder, double-click on the file Renderer_DirectDraw_32bit.reg to restore the original setting. If you still can't get it to work, run ResetRegistryOptions.reg to reset all advanced options and a few other WA options (but your schemes, maps, teams, and network settings will be kept).

Cheers the first thing worked. Now to continue trying to get gold on the rifle shooting! Might switch back to the keyboard rather than controller..

windows 7 multimonitor and uac maximization can also be solved by installing windowed mode

Yay gold on all training things, at least what's available so far anyway.
