I don't really know where exactly to post it, but since I saw 2nd gen Worms graphics in my dream and it's more of a curiosity submitted for discussion, rather than a legitimate suggestion, I'll try posting it here.

In my dream last night, I saw my girlfriend playing a Worms mode that doesn't exist, but it seemed interesting enough to share.

It started on a isometric map (like old RTS games) where you picked where your base would be. The player would then enter a "move phase" where he would move his worm on this isometric map. After the movement was completed, he would switch to "battle phase", which would make the level shift into 2D (a la classing 2nd gen Worms) and then the game would act as a normal Worms turn being played out. The shifting is a bit tricky to explain - the overhead map is covered in a square grid which the player views form an angle. When switching into "battle phase" the player would choose the row of squares that would be taken into account to produce the 2D level.

That's mostly what the dream covered. When thinking about it later, I found that there are loads of possibilities hidden in this thing. It essentially could act as a mix between, say, Heroes of Might and Magic and Worms. In the base, we'd summon new Worms, buy weapons for our teams, research upgrades (like, say, Super Sheep = Aqua Sheep). On the overhead map, Worms would collect resources and secure resource generating sites that would fuel the actions performed in the base. And then there is the old favourite combat system based on good old 2nd gen Worms.

So what do you think? Add to this idea, criticise it, let's discuss!

Reminds me a lot of Worms Forts. It would be pretty awesome to have another game like Worms Forts with more strategical elements. I know it was supposed to have a lot more buildings than just different levels of towers, they planned farms, workshops and a lot more but in the end they didn't keep much.

But there's a mode where you choose where to build your base, then you can extend it with towers which let you use more powerful weaponry, or hospitals that let you resurrect fallen worms. You also had to secure particular locations which would let you build more powerful towers.
There's even a research lab that you can build, which boosts the damage done by all of your weapons.

The only real difference with your dream is that the whole gameplay is in 3D.
Also the game was probably released in a rushed state, there are a bunch of missing features, glitches and such, a real shame.
