All you need is the original game. The beta patch is less then 10MB to download and takes very little time to apply. So just go out and buy the original game, there are no beta versions available for sale that are supported by the developers*.

*Except the version that was available on Steam for a strictly limited amount of time.

Well, nobody knows if the Steam version will be released again later (if it is, it won't be this year).

You can buy WA on CD for rather cheap from places like Amazon, to which you can simply apply the latest update available on http://wa.team17.com .

Buying the original retail version is the quickest, and probably also cheaper way.

Also, there were several things removed and changed in the Steam re-release:

Frankly, the T17Test speechbank alone is worth owning a retail copy. :D

Plus if you want to make use of all the awesome new features Project-X (http://px.worms2d.info/) has to offer (and trust me, you do), you need the retail version and not the Steam version.

Hey guys! Thanks a bunch for the quick responses, really appreciated. Seems buying the retail version is the preferred route to take; thing is, me and a friend from far away (continents apart) are dying to play some matches online, and if there could be a place we could both download the game from, that wouldn't present problems with modern computers, it would be ace.

We downloaded from what seems to be Trymedia; reading some impressions here and there, seems it wasn't the wisest thing to do. Ya guys know any place online where we could download the game from?

Nope, that was not good.
They use a proprietary encryption for DRM, so the game can't be patched with the latest betas.
Thus, it remains in a state from the year 2002.

AFAIK, they have removed WA from their list a few years back.

Currently, there is no legal way to download the game.

As said before, WA has been released on Steam, but only as an exclusive bonus for pre-ordering Worms Revolution.

Retail is the only way at the moment.
I would suggest ordering from Amazon, as they ship to most places on the planet.
