View Full Version : Enemy killing himself

I've just played against a guy that, once losing, started killing himself so that I wouldn't receive any death bonuses.

Besides frustrating, it was a waste of time and coins (I had used a holy hand grenade and a cluster bomb already). Very unfair play... But I have to admit it's a better solution than to quit since you can still get the 170 coins for losing...

probably there has to be an exception where some of the coins will go to you if he kills his last worm himself.

I have some idea for some time now, but didnt wanted to post it, since not sure how dificult it will be for team17 to code it..?

Its about losing coins when you kill your own worm. Same base ammount (without hat bonuses), as when you kill opponents worm, -50 for 1th, -150 for 2nd, -300 fro 3rd and -500 for 4th. Hat bonuses shouldnt be included into this at all, since its penalty, but dunno will it be a problem if opponent kills 3 of your worms and you kill your last one, will it be hard to code that you lose 50, and not 500 coins, since you killed only 1 of your worms?
It's just an idea anyway..

Hm... I found your idea interesting Towelie, but it's kinda dangerous since sometimes it's worth to sacrifice a worm in order to kill others. But I think as long as the penalty counter goes up only when YOU kill your own worm, it shouldn't be a problem. (Losing 50 coins in order to score 50+ would be OK).

No, very bad idea. Sometimes you need to hurt your own worm or even suicide it to cause a massive damage on enemy. For example, if you have one ally near two enemies, it wouldn't be that a matter to use Air Strike at the three worms.

So? :) You will lose 50 and earn at last 150, pretty much what Yuki said :) Im also aware of bad things that can happend, especially if you'r using banana and it scatters in wrong directions, killing your own worm(s), but that kinda add's to excitement :D

Well, while you complain about a player that is killing its own worms... I would celeberate it because that would make me the winner eventually.

I guess you did not understand, brunu. The enemy was doing this in order to keep me from getting any coins (or XP) from killing his worms. And at the same time, he'd get the coins from losing a match. It was not fair play.

But well, if you think this is a valid strategy, good for you. I'm sick of 'smart' people in this world.

Woohoo! You win and get 250 coins!
And by killing all 4 enemy worms you get 50(70 with blue diver)+150(210)+300(420)+500(700) coins, which makes total of 1000(1400) without damage bonuses which will add around 200+ more coins and XP

So what's better?

And stop trollin' that much, how old are you, 5?

Also, I would save my weapons for a next match that I would really need them.

I do this purly on a strategic basis. because when your worm explodes you cause a little extra damage to the oppenent and if your lucky you can kill them too ;)

born_dead, I guess you didn't read the whole thread (or at least the first post). Please, read the thread before replying to it, we're not talking about sacrificing a worm in order to damage the oponent, we're talking about killing your own team so that your opponent won't get any coins.

no, i read it jus fine thanks. and isnt that exactly what i was talking about? killing my own worm (and causing extra damage) so they wont get any coins?

Ye, but that way you'r also killing someone's game :\
Imagine you have spent all your coins on bananas, hhg's and such, expecting to earn those coins back in game by using those same weapons to kill all opponents worms. So you trow 2 banana's, kill 1 and heavy soften the other 3, and then opponent finish of his own worms making you waste 1740 coins and earn only ~500... Tactically not that bad, but pretty lame since you dont have anything out of that and the other side is pretty fu**ed up, since that affects it's future games :)

I see your point when you put it like that towelie lol but I'm not saying this is something I do every game because i just don't need to, just once in a blue moon, also it depends on whether my opponent has pi$$ed me off enough to warrant such a suicidal response. For example, if an opponent does just come into a game banana's blazing at every shot, then (personally) i think they deserve it for having no skill or respect.

In fact what you said was:
I do this purly on a strategic basis. because when your worm explodes you cause a little extra damage to the oppenent and if your lucky you can kill them too ;)And what I understood is that you might kill your own worm in order to damage an opponent worm nearby (counting on the extra 25 damage a worm suicide would get you).

Then when Towelie explained it to you, I believe you understood it and changed your argument to:I see your point when you put it like that towelie lol but I'm not saying this is something I do every game because i just don't need to, just once in a blue moon, also it depends on whether my opponent has pi$$ed me off enough to warrant such a suicidal response. I don't like it either when opponents use lots of powerful weapons, but hey, it's their loss already, even if they manage to kill all your worms, they won't have the coins to re-stock that easily. And personally I can say those people most of the times are not that good with aiming, so I am able to beat them now and then, even without having to use the most powerful weapons.

Apparently for you it's fair to stop your opponent from getting coins just because he 'made you mad' for abusing powerful weapons. Well, in my opinion this is just lowering yourself to the same level. And the very concept of 'abusing powerful weapons' is relative. If you keep your worms all clustered together, why wouldn't the enemy use only powerful weapons?

This incident of the opponent killing himself to prevent me from getting bonuses happened just once to me and the only thing I did was use a holy hand grenade between 2 of his worms and a cluster bomb near 3 of them (which was a big mistake because it did little damage).
He had missed his first shot and I hit him pretty hard at the beginning. I was playing better than him and I had most of his worms reunited. He then started the suicide process. Please answer: Is this fair to you??

We haven't had any other reports of this so we'll treat it as a one off case for now. If people start to notice a rise in suicides, let us know and we'll see what we can do about it!

ElBobbo, that happened with me last friday as well, at the beginning of the match, after I throw a banana bomb and kill 1 of the enemy worms and almost kill another, the enemy run into water with all his worms ;/

I also saw it several times, not all the worms, but at last 1 or 2 that was suicided on purpose, cause opponent was losing the game, just was to lazy to post it.. Thats where idea about losing coins when you kill your own worm came from ;)

to be honest whenever someone commits suicide on me i jus laugh at them for being a wuss and just start another game...

I'm not sure if my opponents just have terrible aim or they too are killing themselves to prevent me from acquiring the maximum amount of bonus points... I still destroy them all, regardless...

ElBobbo
11 Dec 2012, 17:46
HA! Nice one Cassidy.

We need to destroy them before they have a chance to kill themselves! ;)

I agree, I've had many occasions where players have killed themselves or surrendered, meaning I've wasted coins & weapons setting them up and don't get the bounus for killing the worm. Also, the AI has been killing themselves a lot lately too which is frustrating.

Of course, when they have a task like "incredible sulk", maybe sometimes players are purposely losing to claim this bonus.

Since only a few people got the real point of this thread, I give up trying to explain what happened and what is the real problem here. Thankfully it only happened to me once, so my fear that it'd become a trolling technique has not become true.

And can you guys fix AI so it stop killing itself!? It throws bananas or too high or too low, sometimes making nice moves, but mostly it sucks as hell! A minute ago it killed 2 of it worms that I softened with HHG first, with low thrown banana, taking away from me coins, kills for task, xp and its annoying as hell :(((

Towelie, we're making improvements to the AI all the time. Every time we add a new weapon to it, it takes a while to record it's behaviour, so thanks for the feedback.

I often kamikaze worms with low health and have never thought about the opponent losing coins/XP, and often dont kill opponent worms with low health to get a better total score, I dont get what the problem is though, you'd still lose the banana bomb or HHG if they surrendered, and any bonus coins/xp you might gain before they suicide or for getting 4 kills, so if they get 170 coins for their 4 reinforcements, big whoop! Sometimes best to wait for a rematch before pulling out the big guns, just to sus the opponent out, most lvl 25+ love a good fight

Your not the only one, i saw it several times that ppl who are already heavily wining or losing, instead for kill, go for more dmg.. which suck imo, but that's their style :)

Still i'll try to point it out for 165646th time, by killing worms, you get great coins bonus + xp! That bonus is 50 for 1th killed worm, +150 for 2nd, +300 for 3rd and +500 for 4th.. Without those extra damage bonuses that are also nice.. Now, put some of those imba hats, like blue diver is, that adds 40% coins bonus, and calculate it yourself. Just first kill, when you drown enemy worm close to water can bring you over 100 coins.. Technically, you can make ~2000 per game by killing all the worms, with right hats on your worms heads, so that banana and hhg pretty much pays out :)

lol Towelie, I only realised the coin bonuses were for kills after reading this thread, I always thought it was based on the weapon I used to kill the worm with as the 1st/2nd worms are usually killed with low powered weapons on the edge of the island!!

But rest assured I go for kill shots when Im heavily winning and damage shots when Im heavily losing, this usually results in a more exiting game with a very close score, I also often save my weapons and have bazooka fights against noobs, but I do play to win and any kills that come with it are bonus

I really love it when people pull out the big guns in the first few rounds and end up losing by 5 points, lmao, not once have they hit the rematch button!!

Towelie
5 Jan 2013, 17:15
Nah, weapons affect XP only, so big guns actually also gives more XP :) That's why coin bonus hats are nice way to balance, tho those new hats that were available for xmass, giving 100% xp & 30% coins were somewhat imba :)

Dingo
10 Jan 2013, 10:11
Hey, I also noticed that if they suicide their worms or accidentally blow them up, while you dont get those bonus coins, it counts as a kill, so if they suicide the first 2 worms and you kill the 3rd, you still get 300 coins for the 3rd death

It's happening over and over and over =((
if they can't kill me, they are killing themselves =S
And it's the AI system!! =B

I think it is simple, no complicated penalty system, any damage your opponent does to himself should simply reward you as if you were the one who did the damage. If you think about it, the hit points work that way, so why not xp and coins?
