View Full Version : Unresponsive controls? (PS3) This really needs to get fixed :(

Hi there
I was just wondering if anyone may also be experience unresponsive controls on their PS3 (i.e. it takes a while for the game to register that you've actually pressed a button).
This is actually affecting the gameplay a massive deal and sadly, as fun as the game is, I won't be able to fully enjoy it until this is fixed.

Hope to hear from a Team17 staff soon.

Yeah, I have the same frame lag. No idea what's causing this, but it would be nice to have it fixed some day.

I noticed some lag on the PS3 too. I already regret not going for the PC version, but I thought it would be more comfortable on the couch and the big screen. Turning off anti-aliasing seems to help a little bit, but I'm not sure.

on PS3 the frame rate and controls are extremely sluggish. it's playable but it's not fun and a disgrace for any modern PS3 game.

Like some other dude, the ps3 version feels like playing Crysis on a netbook.

There's definitely something wrong with the PS3 version.

The framerate is way below acceptable, and in a way that impacts gameplay. I just played the Eat Dirt campaign and whenever the camera focused on those many enemies on the far right, everything slowed down to a crawl. It was quite painful and it would sometimes skip half of explosion animations because of this.

I have watched videos of gameplay from Team17's YouTube channel and it's clearly not supposed to be this slow. There should definitely be a patch for this eventually. I don't think I'm asking for much, I am willing to be patient for as long as I have to be. It would just be a shame to leave a great game impaired by such a jarring problem.

I would even be willing to sacrifice (but I don't want to) the 3D fancy background animations if the framerate came up to at least a steady 30.

Besides that, the game overall is awesome. I love all the water weapons, and I'm having a bunch of fun with the narration and campaign missions, I just wish the game didn't feel so very sluggish. I just opened the first Worms for PS3 and it's so perfectly smooth that it made me want to play it instead of Revolution. It's sad because there's so much to love in the new game.

If this is happening only to a few people, I am willing to be as helpful as I can be. I can run debug tools (if such a thing exists for the PS3) or give any information you need about the console, if it can help fix this issue.

I hope this is addressed.

I'm also getting a terrible framerate as well as unresponsive controls. It's making this game practically unplayable for me. The jetpack is difficult to control with the bad controls and the ninja rope doesn't act well with the framerate.

The 3D is nice but it should have been tested to ensure it was as smooth as the older games.

Thanks for your feedback guys, we have got people on with looking into this.

The more information about when you experience this, the better for us so that we can reproduce it internally.

Thank you for your understanding and sorry if anyone is experiencing issues.

Have you confirmed with the team what the framerate is supposed to be? Is it actually supposed to be running at 20-25fps?

Hello everyone,

I'm from the Netherlands and I live in a house with a large number of students.
We have a PS3 and a large TV screen. We love to play worms.:D

We looked forward to the new game.
But the framerate of Worms Revolution is indeed acting weird.

bethamari, is there any PS3 specs (I mean details on the model) we could send you so you can reproduce on specific version of the hardware ?
Or maybe the issue happens on every PS3 models ?

DrummerB, what do you mean turn off anti aliasing, is that possible on the Ps3 version? In the games settings or the Ps3 system settings?

Because I don't remember such a setting last time I was configuring my Ps3.

I'm using a 40gb fat Ps3 and I am experiencing quite a low framerate. It seems to be somewhat stable but does not seem to reach 30 frames per second. Although it's very hard to say without an actual fps counter.

I noticed today, that when using an old non-dualshock ps3 controller, the digi-pad is not responding in the game, while it works perfectly well in the menus.
Maybe some of you have older controllers?

Nope. The unresponsiveness has nothing to do with the controller and has everything to do with how shoddy the game runs on the PS3. The game just wasn't optimized properly.

It's optimized poorly on PC too. There's also gimped shadows for some people (including me) on PC, and no option to disable shadows. I haven't played the game for a week because my eyes can't deal with the strobing.

I really wanna play but cant on PS3, so hard to move, even selecting a weapon is nearly impossible.

Hello Team 17 and fellow Worms fans.

I haven't really kept up with this series since Open Warfare 2 on the DS, which I thought was an excellent game. I wasn't interested in Revolution until I heard about the class system. I thought it sounded like a great way to mix up the old Worms formula. So today, I anxiously hurried home (it was an hour-long walk) and promptly bought Worms Revolution on the PS3.

And I'm disappointed. I love so much about this game and I've only completed the first three training missions. But, like many others have mentioned, the frame rate and control responsiveness are both sucking the fun out of the game. The backgrounds are gorgeous, but if turning them off would make the gameplay smoother, I'd do it. I'd even take some detail from the terrain if it would make the maps scale better.

I know that this stuff usually isn't as easy as flipping a switch, but I really hope that the Team is making this a priority.

Keep us updated, Team 17. We complain because we care. :P

19 Oct 2012, 13:47
Have the Team 17 guys managed to replicate the framerate issue locally?

I played the demo on the XBox 360 and didn't seem to notice much slow down.

I then bought the full version on the PS3 (Because its the console I would use to play local multiplayer) and the framerate I get on the Intro mission and any random map I generate to play on is horrible to the point where it is unplayable.

Just out of interest as well, anyone using the PS3 version and not experiencing this?

What do you consider unplayable? I think I get about 20-25 fps on average during local multiplayer on my PS3 (slim) (didn't play the other modes a lot yet). It's annoying, but not to the point that I couldn't actually play it.

I don't think my FPS has dropped below 25fps, which is acceptable (a lot of games, such as GTA IV and Gears of War, run at around 25-30fps), but I notice it does vary and wobble throughout the game.

MtlAngelus
20 Oct 2012, 02:11
I'm fairly sure it drops bellow 25 fairly often. Granted, I don't have a way to prove it or test it out, and I somehow doubt the likes of Digital Foundry or even Lens of Truth are going to bother testing out a game like Worms Revolution... I can only rely on T17 confirming where the framerate average sits right now, but I somehow doubt they'd admit to the game running bellow 25.

In any case, I don't think it's acceptable the way it is now. The framerate is too unreliable, it's very noticeable and causes significant input lag. Unlike games like GTAIV or Gears of War, there's no real reason for this to happen. The game isn't pushing any boundaries, it's just poorly optimized. They are even wasting resources on useless fancy backgrounds and soft shadows, it's just ridiculous...

There is this thing called "atmosphere" and pretty surely most people will say that's absolutely nothing to be seen as useless.

MtlAngelus
20 Oct 2012, 19:58
In a game like worms, it is incredibly stupid to sacrifice performance for atmosphere. Not to mention you don't even need to push technical limits to give your game atmosphere. If the game isn't running as well as it needs to, then you _have_ to give things up. You usually start with the least essential things, which in this case is the backgrounds.

I'm not saying to remove them completely(although I would welcome the option to do so), just to make sure the stuff that is going on in the background isn't affecting the performance of the core game. I'm fairly certain the backgrounds could be simplified considerably to improve performance while still managing to look 'cool' enough to give the game 'atmosphere'...

Y'know, I will say this about the controls on the PS3 - the right stick is far too sensitive, and there's no way of tweaking it.

22 Oct 2012, 17:30
I've noticed that whenever you attempt to use the controller like a mouse (e.g. calling in an Airstrike, or choosing spawns for your worms) the cursor refuses to move in any direction other than up for a few seconds. Yet the timer still counts down. Sometimes I need those precious seconds, this is not acceptable!

Hi there, I have the same problem with the PS3. Unfortunately I buyed the game for the PS3 instead of Xbox360. This was a big mistake, because after I downloaded the Demo for the Xbox the game is running on full framerate and without any input problems!

I already contacted Team17 via 2 different mail addresses and Twitter and didn't get any response since one week. I am very disappointed and I want my 13,99€ back!

I agree that the PS3 port seems very sluggish. The frame rate is quite choppy. I notice it most often when zooming or panning around the map. This choppiness is there regardless of whether I am online or playing single player.

The button inputs seem slow too. I usually use the D-pad and I noticed that in the menu's the command initiates when you let go of the button instead of when you press it down. (Try it, on the menu push down on D-pad and hold it, nothing happens until you let go, then the next menu item is selected) I think this gives the game a sluggish feel overall.

Great game, but please fix this port.

Guys, I'm from Ukraine. Here we usually don't buy games. We use torrent. But I wanted to show you my respect and got official PS3 version of your game Worms Revolution. IT'S VERY VERY VERY SSSLLLOOOWWW! Guys PS3 can do Uncharted 3 graphics without any trouble. But worms fells like a heavy and slow game. Please optimize it cos now it's very very annoying to play like that. Did your beta testers at least tried to play one game before release? Or its all about the money now? I'm very disappointed, game reacts very slow.
I want my money back, really.

I have a PS3 slim 160GB (purchased Fall 2011). Performance is sluggish and it wouldn't be so bad, but it also affects the controls. Things that take finess, such as the ninja rope, are now an exercise in frustration. It's almost always this way. The only times when there is relief is when the camera is zoomed all the way in on a relatively boring piece of landscape that doesn't have any gaps through which the background can be viewed.

I'd give up those fancy backgrounds in a second in order to have smooth gameplay.

So, here's my vote for a fix.

Hi. I just registered to reply to this thdread and say that I'm also getting horrible framerate when moving the camera, or zooming. It does not let you enjoy the game as you expect. I thought of buying the DLC but you lose Team17; you should not release DLC before you fix this. Are DLC a priority to you? I cannot believe it... reason: Money money money, and less user support. I'm sick of it.

Not that I'm apologizing for Team17, Hernaner, but I want to correct a common misconception about DLC that people seem to have.

A lot of gamers seem to have this idea in their head that development of DLC begins after the game is released. Not so. Much DLC is developed concurrently with the game, or begins development towards the last third or quarter of the game itself. Fact is, this DLC was in the works long before the game was even released. The DLC we've had so far was probably more or less ready to roll when the game itself dropped.

Patches, meanwhile, don't begin work until after a game goes gold (i.e. when it's finished and ready to roll out). Team17 haven't spent as much time working on patches for Worms Revolution simply because they've had less time to work on them. Halting or delaying release of already-finished DLC is actually not financially viable because it diminishes their income stream to do the very thing you're complaining about them not doing.

I don't claim to know everything about the business, but statements like yours, Hernaner, are ignorant.

I've found that changing the display settings of my PS3 helps. I was running at 1080i and I turned it down to 480p and noticed a considerable improvement in the frame rate. Even 720p performs noticeably better than 1080i.

It's definitely not a desirable solution, but an okay work-around until a real fix is released.

I have signed up to say that I have the same issues, it is so poor. Demo works fine on XBOX, I so regret buying on PS3.

Have e-mailed Sony to see If I can get a refund so I can purchase on XBOX.

I don't care if DLCs were done a million years ago... that's not the point at all so I think the ignorant statement it's not mine.
This is unacceptable, a cartoon game running worse than Crysis in a PS3? It's like an insult to us. How would I buy DLC if I the developer doesn't support and fix bugs which clearly defines the gaming experience? That won't help them financially. I neither don't know anything about the besiness but I can assure you that if they had released a patch before DLCs they would have earned a lot more, at least my money.

I also find that sometimes the zoom out gets blocked at half way out. I can zoom back in but only half way out. If this does happen to you, one workaround is to zoom all the way in and then zoom all the way out. The zoom temporarily hangs at half way but then pushes through and goes all the way out. Half your go is then gone but at least you can see!

Worms revolution has been out since last year. Are we going to get a fix for the horrific controller lag? I have stopped playing the game because it is so frustrating. It's honestly like 1/2 second of lag! It's nearly unplayable, if there is no fix coming I would like my money back.

I think a patch is imminent: in another thread (about the DLC suggestions) Bethamari mentioned that the DLC wasn't finished yet as the team had been working on the DLC and also on a patch. I hope that the patch goes some way to address the frame rate/display lag and the issues with online multiplayer. I have a friend in Saudi Arabia: we never have connection issues when playing GTA IV or Black Ops 2 Zombies but when it comes to Worms Revolution we can rarely ever successfully accept invitations from each other and usually don't see each other's games in the custom match menu. FIngers crossed; either way we'll see.

FAO Bethamari, is there a pencilled in release date for the patch?

I bough the ps3 version this weekend .. but i was really dissapointed with the performances of the game (sluggish .. c'mon its a PS3! not an old 486 computer..)..

and frustrated by the fact my friends needed user account on my PS3 to play the game.. come on.. we should be able to quickplay with 4 people and 2 game controller ... did i missed something ?

whats happening to one of my favorite franchise ..:S even worm reloaded was dissapointing (could not play with more than 5 worms if i remember?)

i miss worms armageddon\world party...

sadly, I don't know think ill buy another team17 product ... hoping for a patch ?

Thank you for your understanding and sorry if anyone is experiencing issues.

I just wanted to point out that the PS3 version appears to be really poorly optimized. I mean I can run the PC version of this game better on my 6 year old laptop, than the PS3 version runs. I mean this should run at the very least as good as the 360 version.

The PS3 versions of the Alien Breed trilogy games run great, and are fantastically optimized. Why does Worms Revolution run so poorly?

Can you PLEASE do your PS3 community a solid, and have another go at optimizing the Worms Revolution for us? We love Team17 games. We deserve a properly optimized release of this game.

I am dissapointed at the frame rate and controller lag of worms revolution on PS3. the controller lag interferes with gameplay, frustratingly. When you try to open the parachute, you sometimes accidentally close it instead of open it, since it opens on it's own after a moment. The rope swing is very difficult to use as well. Also, the frame rate drops too low to be acceptable. I love worms. I want to buy the PS vita version due out later this year, but I will not buy any more worms games on the principle that they did not deliver a properly ported game, and I feel I did not get my money's worth with so many flaws. Plus, it's dissapointing when they release multiple buyable DLC packs while not addressing basic gameplay problems. Honestly I would like my money back. This game was not ready for release.

Few days ago I bought Worms Revolution on my PS3 and I'm totally disappointed. Framerate is horrible small, animations make this game totally unplayed and not fun as it should be.
I gave you my money like many other people and You gave me back unfinished product. I'm really disappointed. Could you please give us some info, if patch is on the way and when it will be available? Please Teamt17, do not destroy my feelings about one of my favourite game ever.
