Because they still need to make changes to the game! Duh! They'll release it when it's ready, and October 10th is when it is ready!

Its not ready yet? I think they are preparing changes post launch but the game is finished.

I think it's ready. It's already been sent to review sites.

I think they're holding it back to help it gain more attention.

Eh? Always these "conspiracy" theories about everything, and this one doesn't even make sense.

If you are still working on the game and set the release date October 10 I don't think you can just go and tell VALVe "you know just release the game now October 4, we think it's finished".

Not to mention on the Steam website you are promised to be able to pre-order the game until October 10 and thus gain certain bonuses. They couldn't just end this phase early, obviously.

Release dates are set for a reason, people.

That's not what I meant. They sent a copy to reviewers earlier to give it days to gain attention.

I know but sometimes publishers bring the game soon than the official date, is rare but it happens.

We're not holding it back to gain more attention. We've been promoting the games launch since March. The reviews are up now as we want the game to get a good coverage and for you guys to have the opportunity to find out more about it before it is released.

You can't just simply change release dates when they are set - there are release schedules to adhere to with all our platforms. We've still been updating the Steam version as well.

It's only a week to go now people :) I'm glad you are looking forward to its release and I hope you'll all enjoy it.

I didn't meant to say you're holding it back; it's just that you're keeping it till release date, and released it earlier to reviewers to help with its promotion.

Depending on how far in advance they get a copy, it's not necessarily the final "release" version of the game - it'll be a near-final version that is good enough for them to get a feel of the game, but still containing bugs that the developers want to fix before signing it off.

I second a preload, but I wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't get one. I'm more interested in the exact minute the steam version will be officially released, as I have work on the 10th (just one day sooner and I could have had all day to try it out) and want to know how much playing I can get in beforehand.

I dont know your exact time zone but you know when Steam change the daily deal? well thats the time when they update the store, so expect the game will be unlocked at that hour.

Actually, they can release it early. Valve doesn't care when it gets released, so long as Team17 has their final release product actually uploaded they're able to flip their switch. They don't have to end their sale until the 10th. The events aren't mutually exclusive.

Developers have done it before.

I wouldn't expect it, ever, though. The problem, as always, is microsoft. They're probably in an agreement with microsoft that says they can't release it on another platform first.
