How to install: Extract all the files from your archive to your WWP folder and launch WWP.

Don't forget the 1.01 patch if your game is 1.00. It's recommended to prevent other game-related issues!

This will fix the crash problems in WWP for real on all Windows systems and drivers in the world: Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP.

Don't forget to remove all the other "color fixes" you installed before! They are not needed as the game is in 32-bit colour depth now.
The same applies to exe "compatibility" options in the Windows settings.

The windowed mode feature will also enable a cool windowed mode. :)

Features:

Ability to enable windowed mode both during the match and in frontend menus. Open wndmode.ini and change "WindowedFrontend" and/or "WindowedInGame" from 0 to 1 to enable window. Frontend will be in the top left corner due to technical limitations; the in-game process will be in center of the screen.
Minimize the game using Shift+Esc, Win+D, Win+M, or any other method you like. For fullscreen this only works when playing the match (to prevent crashes in frontend menus), in windowed mode the minimization always works perfectly.
Press Alt+F4 when playing a match and you will immediately return to the frontend menu just like in WA. If you also press Alt+F4 in the frontend menu, WWP will shutdown.

These options should ONLY be enabled if one of the problems described below affects you!

Q: When I start the match, nothing happens, the game is apparently frozen, or something weird happens when I change the window
A: For some reason, on your system the window merging process doesn't process properly to meet WWP's wishes. Therefore WWP fails to see its supplementary window ("T17") which responds for the in-game process, catching mouse and keyboard.
To solve this, set "UnhideT17WindowInGame" from 0 to 1 in the wndmode.ini under the "WWPCompatibilitySettings" section. Please note that you will not be able to minimize and maximize the game properly after you enable this! But at least this will allow you to play without other issues.

Q: I still see white fields instead of drop-downs, input boxes and when starting the game
A: if, for some reason, the new fix doesn't work on your system, you may switch back to the one with transparencies by setting "AlternativeWhiteFieldsFix" from 0 to 1 in the wndmode.ini under the "WWPCompatibilitySettings" section. The WormNET logo on top may appear crooked if DWM is off. A few users also reported mouse not clicking in this mode, so see by yourself.

Q: I choose the 1024x768 resolution in settings and I use fullscreen, but when I start the game, it looks like the resolution is 1024x768 but I still see a small window in the center
A: For some reason, your system processes the window position changes in such way that WWP "becomes afraid" and fails to set up a 1024x768 environment for the game, reverting to 640x480 default.
To solve this, set "Force1024x768InGame" from 0 to 1 in the wndmode.ini under the "WWPCompatibilitySettings" section. To see the effect, the "WindowedInGame" option has to be disabled (set to 0). Now the game will always set 1024x768 in-game in advance, regardless of what resolution you choose in the settings.

For people who have tried different "fixes" (which only fix the color problems) but their WWP crashes with app stop on start. No more! A solution is here. :)

Download (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/48532592/wwp/wwp_wndmode_fix.rar) the archive containing all the needed libraries.
Extract all the files to your WWP folder and launch WWP.

This will fix the crash problems in WWP for real. But it hasn't been proven to work flawlessly on all systems and drivers! However the potential and the early tests are quite promising.
Don't forget to remove all the other "color fixes" you installed before! They are not needed as the color problem isn't present here!
It will also enable a cool windowed mode. :)

PS: to minimize WWP in-game, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, then in the "Apps" tab do as follows: right click "T17" and Minimize, then right click "WWPGame" and Minimize. Do it in the backwards order when maximizing (taskbar can be used)

I have the problem, that the Game now starts fine but always in WindowMode doesn't matter what i change in the .ini-file!
And in the Window Mode i get to the point that i see the cursor, but i'm unable to select anything! It seems like my clicks don't get their way to Worms World Party!

I'm now able to launch the Game, but it always starts in WindowMode with a Border or with no!

Why did you change the settings in ini file? They are already configured to the finest, no need to make it worse.

As about clicks - wkWWPt17Fix.dll is made to solve that problem, and I've tested it many times :p Again, what did you do in the ini? Redownload and restore everything, and all the files must be in place.

If it didn't help, I'd like to know your Operating System in PM, as well as other details.

Also fixed minimizing problem.

Btw, you can edit teams with TeamED (http://worms2d.info/TeamED), and weapons schemes with SchemeEddy (http://worms2d.info/SchemeEddy). Both support wwp fine :)

Sadly no, because I have "dwm.exe" problem. But in previous version of fix, battle screen was clear. It became after new version with team and weapon upgrade. In previous version I don't have Aero enabled too.

Ive installed a fresh Worms World Party game to be sure it was clean,
after the install i used the Service Pack 1 from the website,
then i extracted all the files from your archive in the game folder.
When i start the game i hear sounds but i cant see anything but when i use the Ctrl+Del+Alt function i can see the game but in really weird colors (mostly green) the main menu works fine but when i start a game the window places itself in the middle of my screen and the mouse doesnt work anymore the keyboard does i can even move the worms around.
I cant seem to get it into fullscreen aswell.

My specs:

Windows 7 professional 64 Bit
Ati Radeon HD 5700 Series
Intel Core i3 CPU 530 @ 2.93 GHZ Dual
4 GB Ram

you can't put a higher resolution because WWP doesn't support it. The only thing you would be able to do is to enlarge the window, but pixel-wise (wouldn't look nice in some cases).
I'm thinking about fullscreen support, if I find how to change resolutions etc :)

can you describe the problem precisely? where exactly do you stop seeing anything? "weird colors" is a bit of weird because there's no color problem in wndmode. About the mouse - what happens to the cursor? Try to move it over the top left side of screen, does it get punched back? Which screen resolution do you have in Windows (if it's too big, try lowering it)?

Oke i fixed the problem it was my own fault didnt notice i checked Run in 256 colors tab the mouse and everything is working fine such a long time ago i played this game its still fun :]

Now to just wait untill u can find it to run in fullscreen.

New update!:D Finally found out how to merge "T17" and "WWPGame" windows during the match!
Now you can minimize very easily even during the match! Just press Win+M. when you maximize, click inside the window once to activate keyboard input. :)
You can now see progress of the game even when you aren't inside the WWP window!
Also fixed some other bugs (for example, unfocusing problem of Wormnet connection details).

Put in a splashscreen recommending buying W:A

New update!:D Code name "WWP-Monolith".
Now fully merged all the extra windows into one (including "T17" window). So you can minimize/maximize by just clicking the WWP icon on taskbar.
Also renamed the title of the window, so it better matches Worms World Party. :)

This is almost the last update before I start digging into fullscreen support.

I didn't say anything about higher resolutions. Higher resolutions require reverse engineering which is something I'm almost zero atm. :confused: All I did is WWP-related tweaks to prevent WWP-related problems. All the wndmode work and such was done by other people. :)

By fullscreen support i meant auto-changing of a resolution when the window is active.

hi! what operating system do you have? does it have Aero effects enabled or not? Which screen resolution do you have in system (and in game)? Where do you notice the issue - in the menu (frontend) or during the match? Which version did you download (fullscreen or windowed)?

Notice: minimizing the game is hard in these versions.

Different people can do whatever with their system, I can't prevent everyone's bugs :p i only test on clean systems in average.

the resolution gets changed back when the wwp.exe process is died. Maybe it failed for you.
I can try to instead change it when the WWP window is dead (and not the process) :) but you know, a process sitting in memory is bad.

As about mouse - yep, you have to click once to make it work. Not sure how to fix that though.
The lags is the issue I also have, but 90% of people don't have that issue... well, that depends on pc and maybe graphics card :confused:

Yeah, i figure the wwp.exe process was still running then, and that caused to fail to reset the resoultion. About the lags, i'll try to set the priority of wwp.exe process higher, i remember that worked once on w:a, maybe i get lucky with wwp too. :)

Oke thanks gays finely it works with the fullscreen patch but now I can’t play it without the cd. I did this. Instal the game then the SP1 and then the fullscreen patch. After I started the game without the cd in it tells me to put in the original cd in so I copyd all the files from the cd to the pc wwp map and I stil get the same massage. Then I made a iso from the cd and put it in a virtual drive but that didn’t help either. Why not? I have a 64bit win 7, intel core i7 970, nvidea gf gtx570, DDR3 2x4gb.
The really funny part is when I played it on my older pc with xp a few years ago I’m almost sure that I could play it without a cd. Is there a way to play it without the cd?

the fix doesn't affect CD in any way, so it's the problem on your side. You can run the game without cd by mounting your image file. Some tools (Alcohol, Daemon Tools, Windows 8) can do that for you. :)

It could be possible that you're using a pirate or moified version of the game. We don't support pirate versions on this forum. You need a genuine, full version of WWP to receive help from here. :)

then I don't know why does it happen for you. If you say that the missions and training work fine, and everything else not, then something can be broken in the map generation algorythm. As i said, i can't prevent individual problems caused by external factors.
If the app stop is followed by a crash report, please copy-paste it here.
Else try to do the following: open an offline multiplayer menu, generate a map and start the game. On the next time, instead of generating a random map, pick a predefined colour map from the drop-down under the yellow map preview, and start the game. If it crashed for the first time but not for the 2nd, then it could be what I said above.
Try reinstalling the game.
Don't forget the 1.01 patch from wwp.team17.com
If you're using a physical CD (and not a mounted image file), check if your CD is in a good condition and not having any read errors.

is your iso made from your original CD? In particular, it has to be labeled as "WWP". Try putting in your CD itself and see if it works. old (and not updated) games can tend not to recognize the CD copies ;)

what version and region of WWP are you using? Did you download the correct 1.01 patch for it? it's fine for me, so I don't know how to solve your problem... WWP finds a physical CD drive instead of the mounted one. It could also be related to your mounting program: the mounted drive has to be a CD-ROM, probably, but not sure. At the end you may try fiddling with the drive letters (Disk Manager through Computer Management in the Administration of Control Panel), or by hiding/removing the physical drive from the disk manager. It could also be attached as an NTFS folder and be in your C:, for example, but I never tried this so I don't know. :)

your fix worked partly for me... at least i can start wwp now, but there is another problem. i can get to the main menu and to the options, but as soon as i click on local multiplayer or start a singleplayer game, the screen flickers and the game turns into a black window. in single player games i can resume to the game and actually play, but there is a black window over the whole left upper screen. in the window is just written two times "selected team", "barrack" and "training details". when the match is over, there is just this window left on the whole screen and i cant even get back to windows and have to reboot. do you have any idea how i can solve this problem? please help, i wanna play wwp so hard :D

Changing the team file didnt help :( My game is updated with the offical patch, publisher of my CD was Titus/Team17... Local Mp is the only menu affect after your fix, the rest works fine now!

I just noticed that the landscape editor is also not working :(

the landscape editor's core is Landgen.exe.
btw, it could be that an antivirus software could block something WWP does.

about the land editor - does it crash immediately when you right enter it (by right clicking on the map preview)?
i think it's the reason of your issues, since the map is only generated in lobbies.

try exchanging Landgen.exe to the attached one if it's missing or corrupted (not sure if it would help).

or reinstall the game

this game is really freaking me out! with your landscape file everything works, except one thing: the game crashes AFTER a local mp game! But soon you solved everything! you are a genius! :D

Nothing is the first feature I looked good, but I worked slow mouse.
With the second option, I saw the colors wrong, but the mouse worked perfect.
With the third option looks perfect to me and the mouse goes perfectly.

can you describe the problem? What doesn't work exactly? How did you install the game, is it updated, geniune, etc

A new update.
Now fully got rid of transparencies system used in the fix (except windowmode in-game, since it's incompatible with new system)
All possible "mouse" problems are now solved.
Cropped WormNET logo is fixed.
version tag of the fixer/launcher module is now 1.1.

I use the "Sold Out" version with the official Service Pack 1 Update on Windows 8, using my ATI HD 77xxM graphics adapter.
The game loads fine and I can select playing modes and such. But as soon as I actually start a game, the screen turns black. When I try to switch windows, I can see, that the game runs and the screen gets updated in the Window preview (Alt+Tab screen). Also as soon as the game looses focus, I can see it running in background (when using windowed version of the patch). But as soon as the game regains focus, it hangs and does not update the screen anymore.

Is there by any chance a fix for this behaviour? I'd really like to be able to play WWP on my new computer.

hi! this is a very rare issue and it's because for some reason your game or system doesn't like the merged windows feature. Let me explain: when you start the game, two windows get created: the graphic one which you use and which you see, and also a window called "T17". The T17 window responds for the in-game process, it accesses mouse and sends the ingame output to the graphical window.
There are some problems related to this. The first one is minimization. It's impossible to maximize properly (without going through a double process which isn't easy for some people) when the T17 window is enabled, so I decided to merge it and it works fine.
Merged T17 and WWP windows work fine on 99% of systems, and I've only met two people (including you) for whom it doesn't work.
The exact reason is still unknown; maybe if your WWP differs a bit from the others or some add-on is installed in your system which is related to windows.

I made these versions for you which don't feature the merged windows. Keep in mind that it will be hard to maximize the game here (first open "Worms World Party", then "T17"), but everything else should be fine.

have you read the previous solution? it could be due to your Landgen.exe being corrupted.

what resolution do you use for the game? 1024x768? Does it look like the resolution is 1024x768 but the game window is smaller?

In the Menu it is 1024 Resolution, but i change the start Settings, to start as Admin, Resolution 640 and Windows XP Service Pack.

If i got the Problem, my Desktop has a 1920 Resultion and i dont know if it is then a 1024 it looks very small.

I'm having a similar mouse issue to sMirno -- during gameplay, the mouse automatically pulls to the top left corner of the screen and I can't get it to normalize. The same thing happens with the in-game menus (weapons, escape menu) so the mouse functions are all unusable. All the other menus before gameplay seem fine (except for the team editing window where the clickable areas for the buttons don't match up with the graphics, but I haven't discovered any other menus with this problem).

Thank you so much for this fix, though, it's the only thing that's gotten the game to run at all for me!

you are amazing. I was so disappointing by Worms Reloaded and with your fix I can actually launch a game of WWP on my laptop with Win8 again.

The problem is there is no sound still. Neither in the menus nor in the game. I have an onboard sound card from intel.

Any hints what could resolve the issue?

the sound is some other issue, most likely related to your system or installation. have you tried to reinstall the game? can you check what other sound devices are installed in your system (there may be virtual, like Stereo Mix, etc)? maybe WWP doesn't detect the required one.
Try to put this module into WWP folder: http://myfiles.my1.ru/wwp/other/wkSoundCardSelect.dll
It's made for W:A, but should work fine for anything else, including WWP.
Follow the instructions upon launch and copy the ID of your desired device into the txt file. After that, try launching the game again.

Thanks for the quick reply. I openend "Sound Card Settings" in Windows and as you have guessed Windows detected a general problem with some kind of sound "extensions" which i turned of. Now it works!

You are my hero! Would you mind sharing the source code? Just curious how you pulled this off.

actually the biggest part here is wndmode.dll (d3dhook, a component of D3Dwindower by menopem) which allows DirectDraw games to run in windowed mode, and there's no source code available for it. I noticed that this wrapper is very effective to solving the video card issues ("can't start the game - application terminated..."), color issues and other DirectDraw issues as it takes all the work by itself.
And it was available for ages. But the thing is, in Worms games (WA and WWP) there were a lot of bugs in frontend etc, because of the MFC crutches (white fields instead of normal dropdowns, input boxes, etc). So I forgot about this for a while.
And then, when the Windows 8 release preview was near, me and Kawoosh installed it again, for WA. And he wrote small tools to fix these white fields. In WA it was almost enough, as no other bugs at all.
I then looked into how could I adapt this to WWP. Snippets of Kawoosh code were taken as a base, and then I started digging further, learning (Im a beginner in this) and fixing issues with windows. Various functions to work with windows were of much help. There were many different versions mainly because of the more and more discoveries. For example, I found out how to merge all in-game windows into one without harming the game (however I met two people out of a lot of others which couldnt get it working, for unknown reason affecting their system), full screen support, and recently fully got rid of transparency used to fix white fields (some people had problems with alphatransparency), except windowed in-game.
I can give you the source for this small fixer module in PM if you wish

This game was the only reason I missed Windows XP.
I tried the official compatibility fix and a lot of other stuff I found, fixes, disable "explorer.exe", etc. Nothing worked.
But today I googled again for something and I came here. I downloaded the fix, just like le fu I thought "How this simple files are going to fix something???". But the game started, it worked perfectly. UNBE-FREAKIN'-LIEAVABLE!!!!!

First of all, I'm not an expert (to say the least) on computer stuff. I LOVE playing Worms World Party but haven't been able to since upgrading to Windows 8. I have a disk with the game in the drive and as soon as I start a game the screen turns white and I loose control of the mouse. I thought it was great that I found this page with a fix. I downloaded the file but it only downloaded one file and the message says copy all files.
I also tried the download on the second post which lead me to a dropbox folder that was closed due to high traffic.
Please help me.

no, because it's about modifying the game already, and I cannot do that
and no one else did it either, so I doubt anything simple would work

It depends how much monkeying around you want to do. I remember the program "Powerstrip" supposedly lets you force a higher in-game resolution, but I have never tried it myself. Also it's shareware so you'll probably have to "buy" it.

I doubt that would work with this game anyway. In general, it'd be significantly easier to get Worms Armageddon.

Agreed. WA is 1000 times better than WWP, because of the active community and because of all the new features that have been added.

I've also had the problem with a broken colour palette, but on Windows XP.

The solution:

1) Under Windows XP, the game obviously has problems with desktop / explorer extensions. For example, I use Stardock Fences to organize my desktop icons. This extension draws transparent boxes on the background to store the icons.

2) wwp doesn't like the Pidgin Instant Messager (and maybe other programs based on GTK+)

3) wwp doesn't like some popup boxes coming from systray applications next to the clock (like vendor specific wireless lan managers, antivirus programs, updaters)


For me, wwp usually works after

a) shutting down Pidgin IM and closing all systray application message boxes
b) calling the Task Manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL and killing all explorer.exe tasks
c) Running wwp.exe via the Task Manager's file menu (new task)
d) After running wwp.exe, I enter "explorer" at the new task box to restart the explorer shell.

Maybe this is helpful for somebody... ;)

you're in the wrong thread then. in the OP it clearly says that the game is now rendered in 32-bit, therefore there are no colour issues at all, without need to kill or fix anything.

A new update released!

Features:

Now the windowed mode can be enabled using the settings file. There is no need in downloading separate DLLs. Fullscreen is now the default.
Windowed mode separated into two: for frontend menus and the in-gameplay process. They can be enabled as you like.
Added troubleshooting compatibility options for users with rare and exotic problems, some of which were posted in this thread. Please see the FAQ for the description of what they can solve. Only enable if you are affected by the problem! Otherwise you will just lose some features, such as proper minimizing/maximizing (in all modes).
Completed the minimization feature, added Shift+Esc to minimize the game.
Fullscreen: minimization is supported only when playing the match due to crash issues in frontend menus. Now the resolution is properly restored when you switch from/to WWP.
Windowed: minimization is fully supported everywhere as usual.

Added Alt+F4! Now you can quit the match immediately just like in WA by pressing Alt+F4, and return to the last menu. Additionally, pressing Alt+F4 in a frontend menu will exit WWP.
Unintentional: for some reason now you can launch multiple wwp instances (http://puu.sh/38mbR.png). I'm not sure if this existed before (most likely did). Use only for testing purposes.
