So I just installed the game on my PC, and I notice when it gets to the main menu, it crashes and I have use task manager to get it off.

I tried looking up info and putting /nointro in the target textbox to skip the intro, but it still crashes, with a weird white rectangle outline at the top.

What's wrong?

P.S - I have a Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3 PC. Just a few extra details.
[Sometimes when I load it up it says 'Worms Armageddon has encountered and error and needs to close"

Did you install the latest update (http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=upda&file=15) (3.6.31.0)?

I have indeed, but nothing seems to be working, the update just makes it crash from the start.

Just let us know where did you get the game (original or torrent) and what exactly you did to install it. Then i can help you. I promise :)

Well, lets see, the story starts here, a few years ago I bought it at the shops and the game itself is hosted by 'Sold-Out' and I tried the original installer but it didn't work. When I load it, it's just a white outlined rectangle at the top, and when I add the patch and update it starts saying 'WA has encountered a error and has to close'

I have some pictures that I would like to show your audience if you don't mind. [in attachment]

Here is another picture of what happens when I load up WA with the patch and update installed.

Can you click on the "Click here" link in the error dialog, and post a screenshot of that?

Ok so I installed everything, but now when I try to launch WA, this comes up, saying it's not a valid Win32 application?

Please disregard Solid`s (now deleted) posts. He told you to download a cracked, outdated pirate version known to have multiple problems.

Really? I better get rid of those files then.

Be warned, it looks like "WA Solid back up.rar" may contain malware:

https://www.virustotal.com/file/e9456d984d70b51ce2d9f353900dfa774ab06c7bf9b017bf7f 1de577ca6673f6/analysis/1337650597/

I've completed deleted it now, i'll do a virus scan soon.
So about that last post with the error dialogue, where can I find it, well where is the file? Sorry to sound like a pain in the a** :)

I recommend the following course of action:

Delete all versions of W:A, and W:A-related files from your computer.
Install the game from your CD, to its default installation location.
Download and run the W:A update installer from the official website (http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=upda).
Agree to any prompts to download and install additional components from the update installation wizard.
Try to run the game.

If you get the same error dialog as in 33359, click on the blue "click here" link in the error dialog, and post a screenshot of that.

Ok So I deleted everything and installed the update, but the error popped up and I got a capture of what the error says:

The update did not install correctly... the version of W:A that you're running is 3.0.

Please try again, and pay attention to the install locations. You may have more than one copy of W:A on your computer.

I deleted all WA copies from my PC and reinstalled it including the update, however when it gets to the main menu it just crashes and the screen just freezes on the menu and I have to use task manager to close it.

I installed the latest update but I don't think it works on mine; usually when the update is done, during loadup you see the titles 'Team17' etc and when you skip it, it should usually go straight to the next one, but it fades out so I don't think the update works on mine.

You can check the installed version by looking at the properties of WA.exe.

I would recommend to look at the properties of the shortcut you use to run W:A, to make sure you are running the version where you installed the Beta update.

Ah, it turns out it says 'Worms Armageddon 3.6.31.0' as the current version, same as the update. Guess it isn't the update then.

Please describe the crash/freeze in detail. What exactly happens?

There are a few errors that occur depending on how I start it.

If I just install WA on it's own and run it, an error will appear saying 'Worms Armageddon has encountered an error and has to close'

If I play WA with update and patch, it will crash on the main menu and it would just stay on the title menu and not do anything, so I need task manager to close it.

For example:

What exactly is on the screen?
Do you hear anything out of the ordinary, such as sounds that usually play when error messages are displayed?
Do the stars in the background move?
Does the mouse cursor move?
Does pressing any keys on the keyboard do anything?

It crashes on the title menu, cursor don't move, keyboard doesn't do anything, stars don't move it just stays on there.
No sound, but the display is correct.

Please install WormKit (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/) and the following WormKit module: 32227

Run the game via WormKit, reproduce the freeze and press Ctrl+Break. W:A should close, and a file named FREEZE.DMP should be created in your W:A folder. Find and post this file here.

Ok i've done that, but ever since I installed WormKit, the white outlined rectangle appears at the top again.

Here is the crash file.

Do you have any WormKit modules installed other than the one above?

Ok i've done that, but ever since I installed WormKit, the white outlined rectangle appears at the top again.

Try to reproduce this, then press Shift+Escape to minimize the game, and restore it.

Are you installing the beta update and then the patch? Because if anything, you should be doing it the other way around (Patch first then beta update). Though you don't need the patch at all because the beta update will install it for you, if it is needed.

If you're still visiting this thread, try applying the SlowFrontendWorkaround_Off.reg from the /Tweaks folder.
Then launch the game again with WormKit.
