View Full Version : Something seems a bit odd around here...

Can't quite put my finger on it tho... hmm....

Just moved everything relevant across from 'Anything Goes' and moved that now into the Archive.

Seems a bit odd to me to have things in multiple places when both were being used for off topic discussions.

(Though I need to tidy up those unimportant stickies that have reared their heads now.)

Does that mean OD is no longer invite only? :p

Actually given all the focus on Worms Revolution, I'm not sure anyone will notice. :p

END OF AN ERA!

Do you think this is gonna last? There's a storm coming. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

;)

Just for me personally, the members list hadn't been updated since 2008.

The forums seem rather quiet in general but with an influx of new members - it would be good to have all the none-related T17 topics in the same place.

We're planning on relaunching the website and forums at some point in the near future anyway :)

Worm Mad
18 May 2012, 15:28
Yeah, I was only messing about.

I actually left the forums due to an uncomfortable sort of elitism that was creeping in (well, among other reasons). It's time to get rid of the 'us' and 'them' mentality. We're all Worms fans and none of us are superior, whether we've been here two days or ten years. The old regime is dead.

Viva La Revolution! :)

I agree. I hope others can see this.

I hope by merging both our off topic areas, new users (and old) will find the forum more accessible and it will become more active.

What exactly is, or was Open Discussion? I've never known about such a thing to exist and for what reason was it invite only?

Now, for me it's going to do what the description has always said and be the new, all-encompassing home for 'Chatter about other stuff'.

Yeah I know, I just thought that's what "Anything Goes" was for. Anyhow, an entire sub-forum has been kept secretly away from my eyes for 4 years without anyone even talking to me about it, that's a shattering surprise now.

18 May 2012, 16:59
It's been much longer than 4 years!:p

Edit: While I agree with the desision, it's sort of wierd having my OD my posts visible to everyone now. It might not have been it's intended purpose, but OD had become more of a personal hangout for us few active members. I'm not sure if everyone who posted their misery in the negavive events thread wanted to share it with the world.

In anycase I'm glad I left the whitelist up on my minecraft server.

Hm. Well, I guess someone should explain to avoid confusion.

Basically, early on in the T17 Forum's life, there was a subsection of the forum called 'Open Discussion' that was only accessible to people who had reached a certain amount of posts (I think it was 300 or so). Open Discussion was for anyone wanting to discuss anything non Worms/T17 related and the bar on access was to prevent non-fans joining the forum just to spam their website or whatever (at least I'm guessing this was the idea).

After a while, it was changed from being available to anyone who reached that amount to being invite-only. This was because a lot of people were reaching the post level and I think T17 wanted it to be a reward for its long-time members, not just anyone who'd gone on a posting spree over a couple of days.

It was fun for a while but I do ultimately think it created a barrier between old and new members which wasn't healthy. So yeah, don't worry about it. No new members had been added for years and a lot of old members had left ages ago.

Basically, it's the product of a bygone age and it's time to move on.

hey guys I updated the list of all the guys I hateOH GOD OH GOD

Edit: Oh man, hahaha, years and years of 100%OT thread exposed to the masses. And yeah not to mention all of the personal crap we've been dumping in the Positive/Negative threads. Hooooboy.

Maybe Zeor TV will get some new viewers though, whenever I get back to actually broadcasting anything. One of my bigger fans has been away from internets for a while.

That's understandable, if there's anything in particular I can lock out or whatever then please let me know.

I've always had access (unknowingly) to both, so I've never sensed a distinction.

I just realized that the first sigworm battle thread was deleted in the forum purge that happened a while back. Now I'm sad. :c

Cool, OD was dead anyway.

Don't know how I feel about some threads like negative events and one with people's contact info (I'm sure there was one somewhere) appearing in public though, I'm sure a number of posts in such threads were only made because people knew they weren't putting that info entirely into the view of the public.

to quote myself:
the day plasma gets into od is the day i stop posting here - i've said this about iguana in the past and it remains true for plasma now
not to mention that it's kind of disconcerting that a bunch of personal stuff that i thought would stay at least semi-private is now out there for the world to see.

anyway, i've gone through my post history and deleted anything particularly emotional or personal. now i'm changing my password to a random string of characters that i can't remember and checking out for good. those of you who want to get a hold of me know how to do so. ciao~

Yikes.

Yeah you know I'm not totally sure how I feel about this whole thing.

I mean I'm definitely disappointed that OD is dead. And it is dead, for all of its intended purposes. Yet at the same time I kind of logically agree with the decision.

Sigh.

Well, I've said all along that I'll be clinging to this forum's shipwreck until the last, for some reason, so, yeah. But seriously I'm concerned too about all the things we may have posted in there that we weren't expecting to air out to the internet public.

Worm Mad
18 May 2012, 20:46
I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I mean, who in their right mind is going to trawl through a bunch of old threads? It's not like we're all celebrities who the public are dying to find out about.

I can understand your concern but, as I say, I don't think many people will be bothering to go through our dirty laundry :p

MtlAngelus
18 May 2012, 20:52
While I'm ok with the change(I don't care :D), I disagree with the alleged motive behind it. I don't think there was enough of a link remaining between the community within OD and the rest of the forum for a merger to do anything for one or the other. Well, it'll give outsiders some amusing things to read perhaps, if they are that bored.

Well, I don't even think that's why it was done. Given the way it was carried out, I get the impression that Beth wasn't actually aware that this was a private hidden forum when she decided to merge both, probably why it seemed like such an obvious, harmless thing to do, and why it was done without so much as a warning to anyone.

I've taken a look at the tell-us-how-you-feel or whatever thread, then decided most of the topics here were uninteresting to me :p

Hello.

Please find this forum now private again.

I'm going to retire it to the Archive as I'd prefer it if the forums didn't have that segregation.

However, I apologise for making anything public which you did not wish to be.

Now, it would seem...

The forum still seems postable (could be because I'm a mod), but is buried deep in the archives, to encourage more posting in "The Lounge", the new general off topic area.
