UPDATE:
The final speechbank, which is Meme, has now been recorded and finished. Thank you to everyone for their input and taking part.

Hi all,

We thought it would be cool if you all had some input into what the final speechbank for Worms Revolution should be... So we're going to open it up!

Please reply preferably on our Facebook post (http://www.facebook.com/WormsTeam17/posts/10150785262588476) (or here) with any ideas of what speechbank you’d like to see included in Worms Revolution. Then over the next few days we will pick our favourites and put it to a final Facebook poll :)

And since we're on the subject, will the game support custom speechbanks in any official way, or are we going to have to manually edit the files to get our own super fun awesome speechbanks in there, also making it almost completely impossible for other people to hear our super fun awesome speechbanks?

I'd like to see celebrity speach banks, like duke nukem, or some arnie ones, you'd want some good funny ones in there instead of the regular high pitched accent ones that have been used to death!!! :D

*Terminator
*Duke Nukem
*Inspector Gadget
*Puss In Boots
*Dora from Nemo

Perhaps including a much easier sound editor so we can simply add our own .wavs or .mp3s in as part of the sound files, called a particular name or something so you can jus switch out sound files easierly if you wanted to

Various English accents: Russian, Scottish, Irish, London, African etc

Meme-talk: I'm sure people follow sites like 4-chan or 9gag. Stuff like "Kill ALL the worms!" "One does not simply kill Boggy B"

(This could also be in the game "report". Boggy B was a scumbag worm (hit friend). Not something to overdo though, it'd get boring. )

Rastaferen (not sure if this is how to spell it)

Could you explain what the funk Meme talk is?

Good to see Sarcastic is no longer losing, but is also not winning. Glad to see Mad Scientist at the bottom, what an awful choice that was.

EDIT: I just got what the fourth one means. at first i thought it was bad grammar or a typo. Like a guy with bad pick up lines, that could work (though he most likely to be talking to other GUY worms.)

My idea was a 'Captain Obvious' soundbank - "That's a grenade", "Fire burns!", "I'm drowning now!" - you get the idea.

Anyway, congrats on the nominees. I voted for the 'dude who doesn't mind losing' as I like the idea of a soundbank which actively congratulates the other team for doing well. It's subversive! :)

Ok I made a list (lol):

- Something from Rebecca Black's Friday, maybe as a winning song :)
- Minecraft creeper meme: "That's a very nice everything you have there, it'd be a shame if something happened to it." :D
- Y U NO...
- I see what you did there.
- "Shamefur dispray!" (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/shamefur-dispray)

- All your base are belong to us.
- WINNING
- Hater's gonna hate.
- I'm a total freaking rock star from mars.
- IT'S A TRAP

- Cool story, bro

Not sure if all are really proper memes, but most of these could be used nicely :-/ :)

(sorry, that was terrible)YES! THIS! PLEASE GOD! (no, really. Bad jokes are the only things that'll save Meme Talk from being awful)

Anyway, I'm imagining these:

"Not sure if asleep or just bad shot"
"I don't always herp, but when I do I herp derp" (when you miss a shot?)
"Yo Dawg, I herd u liek {insert weapon name here}"
"Quick! Grab my tail!" (right before using some kind of movement/flight utility. possibly supersheep?)
edit: "Bad shot is bad" or "Great shot is great" etc. wherever it fits.

Though I do want to note that I'm putting my hat into the ring for the Sarcastic speechbank. I'd really rather NOT be subjected to the scores of meme-talk players.

I'd vote for "Meme Talk" as well. I suggest both "-hnnnnnng" and the Nigel Thronberry neigh/whathaveyou as jumping sounds. If this speechbank were to be created, it'd be the first notable vocalization (to my knowledge) of memes which are mainly verbal imagery; I'd respect Team17 for their attempt at trying to capture the internetz+1 culture. My second choice would be "Dude Who Doesn't Mind Losing."

I can't be the only one who finds the idea of the Meme Talk soundbank pretty awful. Most "memes" really do become terrible when they're popular; they get removed from their proper context and just turn into meaningless phrases repeated endlessly. I don't really understand how that's an appealing or humorous idea. It's just kind of forced and stupid.

Having said that, since it looks like it's going to win, here is both my reaction to the situation and my suggestion for the soundbank:

For some reason half of the suggestions for sound banks were just the names of TV shows that they obviously don't have a license to. This really isn't any better. Its not original material.

I'm with you on this. My interest in this title plummeted when I saw this was the top choice for the sound bank. Worms has its own brand of humor and does not need to be cribbing tired, 5+ year old catchphrases from 4chan and Reddit. They do not have a broad appeal, they do not stand on their own as funny, and every "joke" has already been beaten to death for years. Sounds about as hip and funny as when grandma discovers lolcats and now you have to look at them all over your facebook wall every time you log in.

Throwing the odd easter egg in as a nod to something is one thing; but if I am going to have to listen to memes whenever I play multiplayer matches it is seriously going to ruin my enjoyment of the game. Not buying if that is the case.

Ooh, I'm glad people liked the memetalk!:D

Well, honestly meme is tricky thing. But if it's not overdone or done by people who understand it, it can be fun. Plus, there will be lots of soundbanks anyway, if it's chosen to be done, it will be just.. one of many:)

Also... I think you should do all these if you can. I mean.. sarcastic and dude who doesn't mind losing can be very funny!

I must say though, thinking of it, memetalk may be more suitable for the.. uhm.. comment texts that appeared in WWP/WA (can't remember if they existed in the latest version). You know "Boggy B is sleeping with the fishes" sort of comments.

Just sayin'.

It wasn't? In the folders there are text files called "LIP" for each speech bank. Apparently these include informations on the letters used in each sentence, I guess there is an animation for each letter forming the complete mouth animation when put together.

Example: "Amazing" (Pirate speech bank, not sure what it actually says):

Yes, that implies the game needs them for lip sync....but that doesnt mean that those .txt were hand-made...I mean, maybe they developed an automated utility for creating those .txt lip files based on a soundfile input...
Thats, most likely, due to performance issues...realtime lip sync is a lot more expensive than reading a pre-generated text file....and the results are the same...

Memespeak certainly would sound awful. I wouldnt want my worms to be saying trolol after they kill a worm. And yes, I know I just cannot choose it but including memes in a game that has barely any ties to them would just ruin it.

In other news, we should have an apathetic speech bank. It would be cool if my worms sounded like those serial killers who knows what you're gonna do next :P,
Or we could have a bass voice for worms. They would sound cool ingame.

Meme talk might be good if done right (not irritating).

This. It's been produced with the same worms humour that's in all our speechbanks. I sat in on it being recorded today I couldn't stop laughing at it, its brilliant and I don't think it will irritate people :)

Plus here's another little fact for you about Revolution.... If anything the speechbanks in Revolution will be far less irritating as we've introduced a bucket system. So, rather than the worm saying one set phrase when something happens, it will now choose a phrase that fits with that action from a bucket selection, meaning that you shouldn't hear as many repeats of phrases as has happened in previous games.

Sounds good, but if there's more than one sound for each jump type now i will miss being able to spam the Thespian "Nyhaa!" during retreat time :(

This sounds cool but makes me worry about how feasible custom soundbanks are. Are there any plans to include a soundbank editor with Revolution or is that something which won't be available at the start but may come along later (like it did with Reloaded)?

Worms: The Director's Cut also used a bucket system for speechbanks (http://worms2d.info/Soundbank_logic_(WormsDC)#WormsDC_soundbank_logic) , so custom banks aren't entirely impossible...

All i really wanted to see was the return of The Raj, but custom speechbanks at least mean I can still have that, even if nobody else can hear it.

The Raj was amazing...

Custom speechbanks should be perfectly feasible.
Each bucket would only need to contain at least one speech file, so even unused ones from previous games could be added/converted.
Team17Test, yay! :)

That is, if custom ones are supported at all and are easily available as sound files or non-encrypted files.

I don't think the issue here is a technical one, rather than content-wise.
I can only imagine what a nazi soundbank would have those poor worms say....

Biggles was my favorite speech. I would love to see that make a reappearance.

People have always been able to make custom speechbanks, but only other players who have downloaded the same speechbank have been able to hear it.

Mr. Neo-Nazi Racist McBiggotpants can make a Nazi speechbank all he wants, but that doesn't mean anybody else will ever hear it.

Yeah, and I have always been annoyed to no end to get to hear the default voice (which is the ugly German one, based on my Windows locale settings) whenever someone used a custom one.

Rather, I would like to see custom speechbanks, compressed with OGG Vorbis, transferred to everyone with a prompt before that:
"Player X uses CustomVoiceY. (3.5MB) Download Yes/No?"

And some additional options like:
"Ignore all speechbanks from Player X? Yes/no?"

The download could then actually be done in the background, gradually replacing the default one if necessary, or prioritizing certain files first.

That's a great idea! I mean, when I was playing the 360 earlier, I was thinking "Man, shouting all these racial slurs and cheap insults all the time really gets tiring. If only there was a way to do this that wasn't so harsh on my lungs."

And as a bonus, I'll get to hear all the witty well-made speechbanks people make for this game. The biggest demographic is kids, so they must be good! It'll be like Spore, but without the silly feature of letting you only download high-quality stuff.

I've always liked the James Brown speechbank from Reloaded. I was dissapointed it was not in WUM :(
