Hi all.

New to the forum but not the game. After looking at several topics I was surprised to not find much strategy talk. Also there are a couple things that I've never seen anyone do online that I thought I would mention.

GIRDERS:

Very often you try to find a very precise placement, particularly when you're trying to get the edge as close as possible to landscape. Rather than moving the joystick back and forth slightly to try to find the perfect placement, there is something you can do that makes this extremely easy. The game engine considers the action button (placement button / "A" button) a constant, or turbo if you will. Therefore, once you've lined up the proper axis you want the girder, and it's just a matter of moving left/right or up/down to get it as close to the edge as possible, just hold down the button while the girder is red, then move the joystick so that is becomes gray (placeable), and your girder will be placed the exact moment it can.

PARACHUTE:

During gliding through the air, everyone knows you can let go and fall at anytime you want. The only time I ever see people do this is when they're close enough to the ground so they won't take damage. HOWEVER, you can actually let go as high as you want! The trick is that you must continue to press, over and over, the action button until you land. The animation that ends up happening is your worm constantly opens and closes the parachute while falling, but when you land you will be safe. You can even continue to do this once you land for as long as you want. Be careful though - some really strange gliding effects can happen if your worm hits hilly terrain when he first lands, but this is only something to worry about if you continue to hit the button after you've landed. If the terrain is flat you have nothing to worry about.

I actually had a chance the other day to use this to win a PRO match. I was in a position where my opponent's gun turret was in my way and his last worm was below me. I had no ropes or jet packs and there wasn't any way to reach him with any weapons from where I was standing. Furthermore, the turret would have seen and shot me before I could have made my way down to him. So, from where I was standing I jumped, deployed the parachute, but then right away started pressing the button over and over. What this does is make you plummet like a rock, so I was able to fall quick enough before the turret saw me. And remember, no matter how far you fall, as long as you keep hitting the button repeatedly you will be safe.

One other thing I'd like to mention about parachutes: I would like people's opinions of them during FORT matches. After playing many matches, I feel like the person who uses their chute first usually loses the match, but I also feel that not many people know or agree with this. I can't even count how many matches I've won because I am the only one left with a parachute. If I guessed I would say it's easily over 60% of the time. I think people get too focused on the wind, and the moment they see 4 arrows they only think parachute time! The only way I use my chute is when going for the win, meaning, it's my last move of the game. Otherwise all you're doing is maybe killing one or two worms, but then you're stuck on the other side, inevitably dead, and without a parachute. And a lot of people's (at least mine it seems) best results come from only having one worm left.

Anyway, that's long enough for my first post. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this, and even more tricks and tidbits that I might not know of.

Last night I used that girder trick, I've been playing for years and didn't know you could just hold down X LOL

Haha :p I'd rather go with my good old mouse for precise placement, still.

wow... thanks man. i did not know the first 2, but definitely agree about the parachutes. that parachute is like an ace up your sleeve, and once the other guy plays it early hoping for a quick advantage, i feel very confident that i can win. on the flip side, there are definitely times that it's worth using the chute early if u can get a multiple kill.
