Ok this is a general plea to the T17 forum, I'm not sure if there are too many of the old folks left. But I might as well have a go anyway. I'm trax, you may remember me from such forum threads as "Traxada's old fashioned worms" and "Trax's 2007 sketchbook" (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31586&highlight=trax)

I'm currently entered into the Redbull canimation competition and I really need your help to stay high in the public voting, which ends next tuesday. My entry can be seen here:

If you fantastic people can, view, facebook like and tweet this to your hearts content you would make old cynical Trax a very happy man and put me through to the judges round. Any help is much appreciated guys, throw some love to an old T17 forum vet eh?

Tracks Adder? Ah, yes. I remember you. Used to own a little shop down on 17th Street. Sold novelty tea cups. Good times.

Seriously though, great stuff. I've liked it on Facebook. :)

Nice to see some familiar faces! How you all doing? I see Angelus and Cyclaws, heroes of old. Wormmad, you king amongst men its been a millenia! Might be exaggerating there...

Since last we met I've graduated, worked for xbox, then become unemployed all over again. The wonders of time eh? And the conservatives.....

I didn't really like it. There's not much of a style to it, the lighting is bland and the movement in general simply didn't come off as very believable or expressive to me. This type of ad would require really good visual acting to be genuinely memorable and I'm not really seeing it here.

I don't know where your "not much of a style" comment is coming from because I personally thought it was very stylistic.

Very nice work Trax!

it looks like an early 2000s video game FMV but actually less unique

http://canimation.redbull.co.uk/gallery#31925421 the animation in this one is pretty wonky at times but it's way more stylish

http://canimation.redbull.co.uk/gallery#31615428 "^.^" ahahahahahahahahahah sweet christ

http://canimation.redbull.co.uk/gallery#32172752 the designs in this one are cute as ****, give it to a better animator and improve the scene composition and you have a hit

http://canimation.redbull.co.uk/gallery#32153111 this one's good, content could be better but the designs and animation are very eye catching. you rarely see this type of goofy squash & stretch-heavy animation in ads, of course it could be done much better but it stands out.

Note to Traxada: Iguana was banned and re-regged as Dix-neuf.

He is still an idiot with no taste.

P.S. awesome to see you around Philby :)

angry? as someone who is really into animation I would never criticize something I feel is great because of some grudge (which I never even had with you at any point - this is in fact my first time criticizing you, ever). I just tell it as I see it.

There's a very big difference between constructive criticism, which some of your original post consisted of and a blatant attack on the work. However, I take any and all crit that comes my way, so I thank you for your input. Critical analysis is the only way you can grow and develop your work.

Are you an animation artist yourself? If so I would love to take a look at your work.

I guess I should've said that there's some good parts in there too - the background in the sky is neat and the way the character is modeled certainly shows technical skill. My beef is with the overall style (I think an ad needs to be eye-catching and I don't really find this to stand out enough) and the fact that the animation came off as pretty robotic at times. I just don't totally buy the idea of this character being a living being in a cartoon world.

Nope, sorry. I'm bad and have taken down everything I've made, before I start posting stuff again I manage to do enough life drawing to be able to properly sketch out whatever comes in my mind instead of having to stop every 5 minutes and think "umm is this anatomically correct??" or "should I redraw this completely and make the pose less stiff??".

I will freely admit to the bad nature of the animation, I'm a technical animation artist by trade, this is my first time diving into character animation, I usually just model and make the rigs. But I got sick of making all these characters and not having the animator side to me, to bring them to life.

Nice one!

The animation part could be a bit longer though.
Somehow I thought he would turn into the animation a second time.

Nah. The live action parts should've been shorter since they're not that interesting to watch. They're needed for the story, but they could've delivered what they needed to in a tighter way. Keep in mind that red bull are probably looking for someone to create works with a commercial pacing.

That's rather good, I like the art. I don't imagine however that having the guy get stomach cramps from drinking Red Bull to be very good for the product's image, but it's pretty funny :p
