View Full Version : Worms Reloaded multiplayer does not work with multiple connections from same network?

For my girlfriend and I this game has been a huge letdown. We love playing Worms Armageddon on LAN while drinking, so we got ourself a four pack of Worms Reloaded and was hoping this would work out as a nice party / drinking game like it's prequels but sadly we was mistaken.

Our conclusion is that Worms Reloaded simply won't work as a LAN-game, if this is because of how Steam works (highly doubt it) or the game itself is not something I can conclude on but the fact is getting multiplayer games to work with two computers on the same network (aka LAN-gaming) seems completely impossible with this game.

I have been working with computing and electronics for a while, and configured quite a few network infrastructures and here at home we feature a 25 / 25 mbit fibre network and utilise a Netgear SRX5308 Pro Safe Enterprise router and even running on the dedicated DMZ port things just won't work. I normally have all Steam ports forwarded to my desktop machine as I normally host a wide verity of games and servers and there has never been any problems with either Steam or other games thus far, if there has been a problem DMZ has always fixed it, but not with Worms Reloaded.

At times my girlfriend won't be able to join my lobby at all, but normally we just get stuck on the "downloading game style" part which never loads, neither will either machines notice whether the other one have checked the "ready" light.

What makes me conclude on this being a LAN-issue, that either the game or Steam, or both simply won't work when two machines on the same network tries to game together is the fact that I can easily play with my girlfriend when she is at her place aka entirely different network, then all of a sudden thing works with upnp so you don't seem to really be needing any port forwarding at all as long as your router supports upnp, and this is both ways. She can host, I can host, both works. But when we try to fire up a match when we are both located at her or my place aka being on the same network connection the same issues occur over and over again.

Another awkward example can be when we play together with friends as well, we did by the 4-pack of Worms Reloaded for a reason so we tried getting a game between us and two friends going and no matter whom hosted things wouldn't work. The difference was when someone outside the network we both was using hosted the game, we were both able to successfully join the game instead of just being stuck at "downloading game style" as usual when trying to play multiplayer when we are both on the same network. But then we run into a issue were the connection / game just halts and gets stuck after 30 seconds to 2 minutes into the game and guess what? If either myself or my girlfriend leave the game then things work perfectly to the end of the match.

So it does indeed seem to be some serious issues when trying to play multiplayer with two computers on the same network, and this basically ruins the entire point of this 4-pack purchase for us and if this cannot somehow be resolved I'm tempted to say the game doesn't work as advertised and we should qualify for a refund or at least get the game replaced with another Worms game that actually works for us.
