For reference to people who don't know, NDA stands for Non-Disclosure Agreement. It means you're basically forbidden from talking about it with any people not also part of the beta.


What does interest me is why they're starting beta testing for a game that hasn't even been announced yet?

I think it's thought as a sequel of Worms 4 Mayhem. We can call it Worms 5 Ultimate, but we're going to see it during the beta test to which I requested to being part.
I don't know if somebody can already say if he got in or not, but I hope to get in too.

PS: It could be even Worms 4 Mayhem with updates, also in this case the game will be really good (in honor of the ol' times)

Damn, was hoping for a good follow up on Worms Reloaded.

I know there are guys on this forum who like Worms3D, but why they do is beyond me. It looks like a fluffy version of Battlefield, but the graphics aren't as good, it's not first person-view (the camera is all over the place), it has no vehicles or any real interaction with the map, it's turn based (you only get to play half the time), etcetera.

Sure, it looks more 'real', but it took Nintendo & Sony but 1 or 2 games before they realized it only made things more complicated. Now Mario is back in 2d and it's a smashing game.
Games thrive on imagination, a world depicted in 2D is no less real than one in 3D for the average gamer. A game in 2D nonetheless is much easier to shape and thus the graphics look better as well. If I were to think of good graphics when it comes to T17 I'm thinking primarily of the mission levels they did for WA & WWP and the forts of W:R, certainly not off the crude 3d shapes of Worms3D and Mayhem..
Furthermore, the controls are much easier in 2D and the level is much easier to oversee and comprehend. You certainly don't need a special mini-map to tell you where your opponents are (and even this mini-map isn't clear as it fails to depict the height of objects). This makes the gameplay much easier: in Mario, but definitely also in a game like Worms.

I really think W:R was the right way to go, even though to many it was but a crude port of a console game. With a few improvements (particularly in the field of servers and multiplayer, bugs and basic menu-navigation), W:R has everything needed to become a classic PC game like W2;WA and WWP were back in the days.
Worms3D never had good reviews. The ones I read praised Mayhem as the best of the 3D-series, but still criticized it because it had all the drawbacks of 3D that I mentioned above. Why Team17 has decided to go 3D yet again is really beyond me, they should know better by now.


I signed up for the beta as well, but now that I know it's going to be 3D again I'm thinking about stepping down. I was eager to help you guys making a great game in the style of W:R, but now that I know it's going to be 3D there really isn't much point to it. If the basic concept is flawed you can take out all the bugs but it's still going to be a game you don't want to play. :(

i have played the first worms on my amiga in the past. i have loved the 2 level demo and have bought the full after that.

i own alien breed too so from team17. it was very bad cause the amiga dont got all worms and the pc in the past got more games.

but the release of worms reloaded was like a second birthday for me :D the alien breed parts too!

maythem i never have played. the last worms game i have bought was on the gamecube ;)

i thank you team17 to get more worms experience :cool: and got the nda. hope it is ok to write this.

Worms 3D was extremely polished despite the fact that it had several gameplay issues, but the unique atmosphere of the missions were enough to forgive everything, it's a shame that Team17 didn't have time to finish everything they planned to do. When you think of it, it was entirely made from scratch, while Worms Armageddon was simply a heavily improved version of Worms 2D at first, and Worms World Party was nothing else than an addon pack with improved netplay.
Worms Forts brought a pretty innovative concept too, which could have been really fun if there weren't so many bugs. Worms 4 Mayhem completely changed the whole visual theme and made the worms look a lot more responsive as well.

I say there is no way this one can go wrong, especially if it's an improved version of Worms 4. Unless Team17 manages to somehow horribly screw it up, but I somehow doubt it. No matter how you look at it, the 2D Worms concept has been milked to death, there is nothing else you can add without ruining the whole thing. 3D on the other hand isn't perfect and there is still a lot of unexploited potential and room for improvements.

Very well. It's not my intent to tell other people what to like and what not to like. But it's like I said, I do not understand why people consider it to be superior to 2D-worms/2D-gaming.
I liked the atmosphere of the missions on worms3d as well, but playing the game itself was more frustrating than fun (and that is my personal opinion).

No matter how you look at it, the 2D Worms concept has been milked to death, there is nothing else you can add without ruining the whole thing.

I consider W:R a step forward from WA & WWP, even though it has many aspects that still can be improved. I was hoping this new beta would be W:R part 2: an upgraded version of the 'basic' console-port.
For me WR has everything modern gamers are looking for: it's an easy to play game that is fun for newbies and veterans alike, with cute wormies and nicely designed 2D-levels. It's a game that is appreciated in the same way as people value the WII-concept. And the popularity of the latter is a clear indication of how popular W:R could be had it been polished to the degree of other T17 titles.

3D on the other hand isn't perfect and there is still a lot of unexploited potential and room for improvements.

I'll have to see what the beta brings (I received an NDA too), but IMO Worms 4 Mayhem is already about as good as it gets. The imperfections of the game are the natural consequence of working with a 3D-environment rather than shortcomings in options or gamebalance (the reviews I read also point in this direction).

W:R seems to have much more room for improvement from my point of view. Which isn't so strange because it's a new port from the console. On the other hand Worms Mayhem stands in a long tradition of 3D worms games on the PC.


Ah well, let's just see what T17 comes up with in the near future. Just because they are making a new 3D worms doesn't mean they won't be making another 2d game after. :)

You're right, Kilburn. I sense this game is going to have a real big success, like the ol' times. However the question is: will the improvements be innovative and revolutionary enough to call it Worms 5 or is it going to be an expansion pack for Worms 4? In every case, the result is a win.

My dream would be Worms 4: Mayhem. One of the best games I have playe don my PS2. Or if it is ofcourse an whole new IP.

i dont think that the 2d is dead. we need a all in one worms will all stuff from part 1 until know.

and there are enough ideas from the community too for weapons or other things. in my opinion the people wait for this.

I would like to see a fully working finnish soundbank. Worms: Reloaded one kinda ruined my nostalgia because they said wrong things at wrong times.

Its funny because the new 3D design of the worms characters are making me more impatient than the game itself xD (I missed 3D series, and though they have dropped the genre)
I really hope to see a "cute and deadly" design like the old times.....the worms 4 design was cool but it lacked cuteness....

No that doesn't break the NDA in this particular instance, tecnically speaking you shouldn't but realistically speaking it would be a royal pain hiding this from people you live with. Just be aware you are the one who signed the NDA and you are the one who will be held responsible. :)

I got my NDA the day after I sent the application form....but I sent the NDA to an incorrect email (the Assistant Producer's one) and just re-sent it to the correct email yesterday....
And then, I re-sent it today because the subject was wrong xD

I think so. I came home from my holidays on friday, saw the announcement of the beta and applied.

I got the mail later that friday but unfortunately it dropped in my spam folder and I didn't see it. I've sent the reply on monday but didn't recieve anything yet, so guess it was to late :(

Depends on what's defined as "Weapons". W4M had 28 weapons, 9 utilities, and a team weapon. So there'll be somewhere between 0 and 10 more weapons.

As far as I know, Team17 has considered utilities as weapons, even the skip turn and the surrender. The proof is when they've talked about the number of weapons in Worms Reloaded. So this leads us to one direction: unless they're considering the team weapon not to be a weapon, we'll know all the 38 weapons that are coming.

Sounds pretty cool, I feared it was going to be nothing but a direct port from Worms 4 with updated graphics (as well as a few new features). 12 themes, if we assume that all of the Worms 3D and Mayhem themes are included, would mean there's only going to be one new theme. Still hope the old Worms 3D themes got completely revised :)

It's a beta, Nils. Probably they'll adjust the textures and the graphics during it or maybe even after (or maybe not). But yeah, I forgot Arctic, thanks. I think that the last theme can be Jungle.
I considered the missions to be following the story of Worms 4 Mayhem--> Arctic = Ice age, British = Victorian London, Horror = Dracula aera, War = WW1 and WW2, Moon = Future and Pirate = Obvious (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fUv-WY0DDo&feature=related)

Woot! I'm excited. Never really gave a 3D Worms title a lot of attention. Mostly because back in the day when we would play on a LAN, the delay between taking a turn and watching it on the other PCs was horrible.

They've revealed the HUD, pretty much the same as in Worms 4. Except for, it appears someone finally made some new weapons artwork!

The only thing I don't like is the wind spin. They could use the arrow, like in Worms 4.

Seems fun, but I lack what some people call "worms experience" since I always get halfway through a worms game and then start playing something else...
Anyway, I´ve always liked worms games and it will be fun to try out this one.

Pretty excited for this, haven't played a Worms game in about a year. I'm glad I got into the beta for this, sounds...interesting for a 3D worms game.

I remember they sent the access code for Worms Reloaded on 1st April, 18.30 Italian time. So we have still hope for 30 minutes eheh. As I said, they have a huge problem probably because it's strange they postponed the beta when they officially said "It should be ready for tomorrow or the day after" on Twitter last Monday. And the only thing that comes up in my mind to be so serious is, guess what, the online not starting!
Consequently, I sense something bad: I'm afraid we aren't going to get the so hoped lobbies like Worms 4, but something crappy like the Reloaded ones. I really would like to be totally wrong, but at this rate...
At least an announce or something should be cool by their side, just to know.

It's not so strange. There's a huge host of completely unexpected problems that can arise, and the last thing you wanna do is to have the first impression of your product be that only half the copies worked.
