I made this thread to discuss what this could be. Theres been alot of speculation but no official announcement yet:

I'll speculate that it will be a 3D game based purely on the fact that it shares the word Mayhem with "Worms 4: Mayhem".

I have been viewing these fourms forever! now I decided to make an account lol. I am dieing to know what this worms ultimate mayhem is! I honestly hope its 3D with a TON of content, I am talking 100+ weapons, amazing ways to build your own 3d level, a system for building your own very unique weapon with a way to make it more powerful but cost more to make rather than a power meter limiting you. and many missions and unlockables, and may dare hope for this!? Custom created Voices like in worms armageddon. good times lol. This is all wishful thinking but honestly a 3d worms game has so much potential to become the best game of all time. Looking anxious to this annoucement!

And yes worms for Wii U plz lol

Still, that sounds... really awesome, actually! W4 is a fun game, but I can definitely see how it needs improvements. Particularly on the online side.

Also, this sounds neat, but really, there's no such thing as an "HD" makeover for PC games that already supported large resolutions. Perhaps you mean improved textures, or increased polygon count, but the game itself could already run at High Definition. :p

HD is the new "buzz word". Just like next-gen was...

What i loved the most was to be able to go into the files and "tweak" weapons lmao. some ppl have made insanely funny weapons. When i first tried i made a grenade explode into a ton of holy hand grenades and blow up everything. and another made worms fly like 2 billion feet lmao. good laughs there for sure!

I hope the accessibility to XLA and PSN will bring many new players to the 3D Worms space. I think digital distribution might be the best way for people to experience this version of the game that hadn't gotten to in the past. I, personally, think Worms in 3D has a lot of room to grow where I feel the 2D versions are pretty close to hitting their potential with Worms 2: Armageddon. More weapons, customization, and maps can always be added, but I believe the gameplay has hit it's peak. 3D, on the other-hand, could be improved with better destructible environments, a fully realized map editor, and more creative weapons that take advantage of the perspective. Camera angles can always be improved, but I think Worms 4: Mayhem actually fared pretty well in that aspect. I would also enjoy to see many more recognizable environments such as the Helms Deep and Back to the Future clock tower that were present in that game.

Which actually seems really cool. I'd like to see how it turns out in the end, since those are obviously work-in-progress pics.

Like Kilburn said, I do remember shadows in Worms 4. However, the only image that I did question was the Film Stock pic. All the other images seemed identical except for minor changes like titles, the xbox avatar, and the stock list which all could have been easily altered and/or added. Which is why I posted on the site that it was obviously fake (granted... I was obviously wrong).

As far as the Film Stock image, I don't remember that being included and was the only thing that did make me ponder. Knowing now that it's real, I assume it's some kind of clip save feature to allow those to keep some of their most memorable moments and even share amongst those online. This is just a theory and as I recall... I have been wrong before. ;)

Personally I loved the Worms 4 interface, it was one of the more dynamic and cartoony frontends that fit the game style really well instead of just boring old lists like most games. And you could actually scroll through customizations. :p

I really hope it's more balanced this time around. In the original game, if you wanted the most powerful weapon, a single drop airstrike with just everything in power and push was the clear choice for any situation.

Yes, I know, Alexbond's map editor. I used that too, but having an internal landscape editor is surely a step forward.
Remember that the Alexbond's map editor wasn't so easy to use or better, not so easy to use for the vast majority of people playing that game.

I'm a little surprised that I overlooked the landscape editor as well. As someone who plays the game mostly on consoles, this is an exciting feature. I hope there will also be the opportunity to share user created maps online and offer an option for people to rate them. Halo did a pretty solid job of that for Xbox and this game could benefit even more from it.

Something else I'd like to see is the inclusion of the Armageddon weapon. I remember this being explained away that it was hard to replicate in a 3D environment and since the perspective didn't allow for players to dig themselves underground, it wouldn't be a very useful weapon. However, on maps with buildings and taller structures, one could still hide and have a tactical advantage. On top of that, the weapon could be scaled back a little so that it doesn't do as much damage but still affects a lot of the landscape. The Concrete Donkey seemed to transition pretty well in my opinion and I believe the affect is close to that of the Armageddon weapon.

If the game is like Worms 4 you should know, Nils, that you can customize everything. That means you can modify the files to change a preesistent theme to another one of your pleasure. Anyway, it's better the development team adds something new, so I guess one - two more historical backgrounds couldn't be so bad (ideas are American Civilizations like Mayas and Victorian London, but also Space future).
By far, from the images, only more speechbanks and hats have been confirmed. I guess we need to wait till Monday or Tuesday to know the rest.
Before ending my intervention, I hope there would be:

a) A lobby like Worms 4 Mayhem and not a constipated one like Worms Reloaded (in that case, it's a bad start)
b) Possibility of customizing the game completely (I mean reskins and recolours of huds, weapons, frontend and so on, not necessary the changement of weapons values)
c) Garancy of the pro rope (but, seen they're using the same engine of Worms 4, it's obvious the ninja rope bug will appear again, so yeah!)

At that stage (I dont know now, will see in the beta) it looks like worms 4 with achievements....I hope they enchanted the shaders more....
T17 is not insane enough to release a game that looks graphically the same as a 6 yo game (maybe 7 when gets released)....I can count on seeing several graphic enchantments in the final release....

Maybe we are in presence of the Worms world party of the 3D generation (staring W4M as ,the 3D gen, worms armageddon)....in that case this could become buyable by the ppl who enjoyed W4M and played it for a Very Long time (like me)....in other case I think this new title aims to ppl who havent even noticed the existance of worms 4 mayhem at all....
On the other hand, my experience in Worms 4 will become helpful in testing a game similar to it...There were a lot of bugs in worms 4 mayhem that MUST be fixed in this version....

What long range shots? All handguns, such as shotgun, uzi or blowpipe make the crosshair waggle so it's not really possible to "switch" between binoculars and handguns.

Weapons like bazookas or grenades haven't got a straight trajectory, so I don't see any use for that either.

As you know, in Worms 4 the binoculars have been "merged" with the shotgun to a sniper, actually allowing precise long range shots, I thought that was a much better idea.

Still, I want to know what new features the binoculars offer this time :D

Binoculars now serve as an accurate guide for beginners as it shows you the required angle and power of the Bazooka that you need to hit the target shown in the Binoculars. At the easiest difficulty there are lots of these and as the difficulty gets harder there are less and then none available.

It does look like a mirror, but no it's once of the changes to the camera where you see some of the action in a "picture in picture" mode. Often you would have to fight with the camera to see the outcome of a shot you made. This feature helps you see more.

The One legged Giraffe
You're surely thinking of the Angular Wooden Giraffe.

It was an actual wooden giraffe, placed on the desktop of one of the Teamsters and it's considered to be the deity of the Greysiders in Worms folklore.
AFAIK, it's not one-legged, but one-eared, having one of it's wooden ears broken off.

I don't know if many other forum members share the same view, however, I was slightly disappointed to find out that Worms 4 Mayhem didn't include weapon keyboard shortcuts (F1-F12). I'm assuming majority (if not all) Worm titles prior to it had them. Provided that they're not already included and since I'm not in the beta to suggest it; it be great if there was still time, resources, will power, etc. to implement them.

We're they removed from Worms 4 Mayhem for gameplay balance reasons? If so then my other suggestion would be to put them back in as a weapon scheme tick box option or worms pot mode. Take care.

P. S. - My sincere apologies if this post should've been in a separate/existing thread (I searched: "keyboard" and "shortcut"; found nothing).

I do hope so. Since I absolutely see no reason to remove weapons from a game, which calls itself an upgrade of Worms 3D and Worms 4 Mayhem.

Sprites, 3D models, Source Code + everything else is already available to them, thanks to 3D and Mayhem, so why remove weapons then (IF tools are considered to be weapons)?

If you have the "Kitchen Sink" scheme then there are no gaps in the weapons panel at all.

Does that mean that at least one weapon from Worms 4 Mayhem will be removed? Worm Select wasn't in Worms 4 if I remember correctly. It would be a shame because I can't think of a single weapon that was redundant or useless. Except maybe the Cluster Bomb, but that thing has always been useless, a small buff wouldn't help.

Well I really hope the current size of the weapon panel is temporary, it would be really cool to have an extra column, or at least an extra row for all the great weapons from Worms 3D that didn't make it into Worms 4. Lottery Strike was an interesting concept, it simply needed a slight damage buff, and the Mega Mine was quite a comical addition, it could be also quite strategical if it wasn't so powerful.

Edit:

Oops, looks like I forgot everything from Worms 4 Mayhem, Worm Select has always been there and there are actually four empty slots, one in the weapons section and three in the utilities section. Fair enough, I guess, that's one more weapon from Worms 3D, the binoculars and two other utilities. I'd still have liked a bigger weapons panel though. :(

I bet one utility will be freeze. Probably the other is going to be invisibility. And about the last weapon...sticky bomb? Pipegun? Lottery strike?

I bet one utility will be freeze. Probably the other is going to be invisibility. And about the last weapon...sticky bomb? Pipegun? Lottery strike?

Freeze would be redundant since we have Bubble Trouble already. They aren't exactly the same weapon, Bubble Trouble doesn't end your turn but doesn't protect you from close ranged attacks, but they share the same purpose. Plus, Freeze is a rather boring weapon when you think of it, it's not particularly useful unless there are more than 2 players.

Invisibility could be nice too. Sticky bomb, I don't know, in the end it works just like a bazooka that isn't affected by wind and can explode before hitting terrain. They should make it last a few turns rather than exploding after a few seconds, this way you'd be able to stick it to worms and have them detonate a few turns later.
Lottery Strike was cool but way too underpowered. The damage done should be between 1 and 75 with a higher probability for values that are close to 30, then it would be more interesting.

Well what shall I say. Boring campaigns and hideous frontends aren't a matter of gameplay to me.

The only thing I might agree with is that Worms Reloaded barely features any scheme options nor is it mod-friendly, and W:A is a better game in that matter.

Yet, since the W:A community can't think of anything but rope based schemes and the "normal" players are about to die out anyway, I can just as well play Worms Reloaded.

It features the same classic gameplay that the original Worms did, and I loved that game. I still play that game. It's best when you got a couple of friends home to play a few matches :) So... not a bad game at all.

The W:A community might be dwindling, but what can you expect from a game that isn't quite on many people's radar and isn't particularly easy to get a hold of? If W:A was brought to steam I can guarantee you it would outperform W:R in a very short time. Because the game actually encourages people to spend time with it rather than being just another cheap game you only play when you have half an hour to spare and are bored to tears.

And your enjoyment of the game is just a testament to the fun that is the core concept of worms. Some game concepts can still be fun even when delivered poorly. But a poor delivery is still a poor delivery, no matter how fun the game is.

So uh, you guys know this thread is about WUM and not past Worms games, right?

Not like there's much left to discuss about WUM. Right now it looks just like W4M with minor graphics improvements. Even if those improvements are extremely hard to implement (which I strongly doubt), it doesn't make such a difference in the screenshots. I guess the final product will look more... different.

I know it's not particularly nice to say that but I have to agree that Team17 hasn't put any apparent effort in any of their games after Worms 4 Mayhem. Heck, even Worms 4 showed a few minor lazy design aspects, but that was completely forgivable at the time because of the huge effort put into making the worms look more emotional, heck that was pretty impressive.

Also Worms 3D was a masterpiece if you ignore the poor controls and camera. The transition between 2D and 3D was hard to do but the awesome frontend, the great missions and the whole feeling brought by environmental sounds made it quite unique. I wish they could put as much effort in a new game as they did back then. If the "major breakthrough" here is "HD" graphics, like it has always been for most of the console ports, I guess I'll still buy it just for the sake of replaying Worms 3D missions, but that won't go any further than that.

Thurbo
8 Aug 2011, 09:09
I'd also take the Worms Open Warfare series into account, both games were pretty unique as Team17 made up an all new physics and graphic engine. Personally I don't understand the notion that Worms 3D was better than Worms 4, but that might just be a matter of taste. Worms 3D had a fundamental flaw in that without the heightmapped super-resistant land at the bottom it was far too easy to create sink holes in the purely voxel based world. Pretty much every single battle with only a few exceptions boiled down to "blast hole in floor with a single explosion, prod worm through hole into water".

I thought Worms 4 was as good as 3 dimensional Worms was going to get and they removed a ton of useless fluff and added a lot of very sensible features IMO. Admittedly I still think that Worms in 3 dimensions has a bunch of fundamental flaws that can't be solved in any practical way but for the massive improvements it made I felt Worms 4 went underappreciated. It was actually a pretty good game all things considered.

Nah I never said that, Worms 4 is certainly overall better than Worms 3D, but it lacks all the cool sounds effects from Worms 3D, and personally I think the explosions looked better and the missions were more challenging and memorable. It also had a really cool frontend, it was like Team17 tried to remake WWP but in 3D. The sounds were the same, the frontend had the same structure, and they were planning a bunch of weapons from WA, hence the huge weapons panel. From WWP to this, you could feel they poured all their heart into it, and that's a feeling that all the new games lack.

Or maybe I'm just making this up because I was still a kid when I played it, I don't know. Just mentioning Worms 3D because it's the game that left me with the best memories.

So you think a game that copies directly from its previous three games, has half as much weapons as they first wanted to have, has a HUGE gameplay flaw that would have been easy to fix, and that carried promises that never came through (remember that map editor we were supposed to have?) is an example of a company pouring its heart into a game. That's still the biggest amount of effort they're going to put into a single game. It was made from scratch after all, unlike a certain Worms Armageddon.

Also I really hope they remake the Fire Punch in 3D. It's great for melee, yea, but there's a small posibility from hitting an enemy from below. And one more question: can you add in W: UM "Nuclear bomb" from Worms 3D? Or just replace "Flood". Nuclear bomb sounds and looks better.

I love original Worms 3D soundtrack. This is awesome, specially War and Horror themes. I don't want new music.

I'm sorry for you, but John Dennis already said that the soundtrack will be completly new (read HERE (http://www.facebook.com/notes/team17-software-ltd/worms-ultimate-mayhem-qa/10150330034165266)).

Ohh... :( Bad, bad... No more ideal War theme music... Sometimes we can hear main Worms theme on it...This is was excellent... Damn.

How much are we (the beta testers) allowed to say about the audio examples we've heard so far?

Being uncertain about that, I'll simply say that I love the new audio. And SHASHA_WRX, I think I could calm you, but unfortunately I cannot say why I could. Yet.

Pretty much nothing. Only half of the NDA's purpose is to stop people from talking about how buggy or imbalanced the game is in it's beta stage, the other half is to stop people from getting hyped up about things that may not be in the final game.
For example, in this case, it's still very possible that the music will have to be completely redone.

I could careless if Team17 recycled old stuff, as long as there's at least a bit of mixture of new content in the game as well.

What support will this game have after release?

We're already working on content we're planning to release post-launch. We've got some great things in store, with a mixture of free and paid content updates to extend the life of the game, as well as planned tech support should any unforeseen issues arise with the game post-release.

>>> haha planned tech support unforeseen issues > this not apply to Worms 2: Armageddon, only the DLC part?

Any roads this game needs to support Y axis inversion for me to even consider it otherwise ill struggle on with W2:A

Do I need a proper source for this? Team17 (Bill) announced everywhere - here on the forum, on Facebook etc. - that Ultimate Mayhem will release for PS3, Steam and XBLA.

He was referring to the September 21st date. Yes, it's coming to all those platforms but there hasn't been an official date announced for XBLA or PSN. I would venture to guess that the console versions would arrive before December, but we'll have to wait to get word from the developer.

There has been no statement from Team17 regarding a release date for XBLA or PSN as of yet. I cannot say definitively that it will not arrive this month, but I would believe that the chances are slim. I would lean more towards an October release if everything goes well.

It's been a while since I've posted, I wanted to sure my guess were rights.

So, is there an option to have the Worms 3D texture pack?
All I see is dark textures, where are those super flashy green of worms 3D?

screns of what I mean:
can we have this set of colors

I'm pretty sure that this theme + level is in the game since Worms Ultimate Mayhem will have more than 12 different themes (3D + Mayhem probably combined).

But that's still a lot better then what I expected, I didn't thought they would bring back those delicious colors, thought they would make the whole game feel "worms 4ish".

Well, I'm back on the forum then. If the game comes out before november on 360 i'm getting it

Will try the demo when it comes out for sure.
What I'm suprised though is that the game was all about a new shadow engine, but the shadows are still very pixelated, it's just old footage or it will stay the same?(Not that I care, just wanted to point that out)

I'm not sure how much I can tell being under the NDA but they aren't pixelated, the trailers seem to use old footage indeed.
