View Full Version : The Unofficial "Team17 FanArt Of The Month" Thread - The Ressurection (January)

Plasma
2 Jan 2011, 01:47
It's the start of a new year, a new decade, and it's about time to try this again. Not only are there some new artists that were never around for the last time we did this, but there's just loads of new members altogether that might have some budding talent.
Soo... it's the January 2011 FanArt Of The Moth Competition Thread! (Jan FAotM)

The rules are simple: every member can draw and submit one art piece of the month's theme, and the winner makes the next month's thread and theme. The deadline is, of course, the end of the month. Creativity tends to be rewarded more than just being good art.

I am going to change one rule this time though: The person who won last month's FAotM (aka: the one who made the current month's thread) decides themselves who the winner is at the end of the month! Normally, we used to have a public vote to see who wins, but the problem was that it meant having to start a week or so late each month, and it was just a huge hassle. So let's try this instead!
Currently, there's no restrictions on who that person can vote for. But it's really advised they have a vote with friends rather than picking by themselves. We can work out problems as they come up.

Oh yeah, and this month's theme? Your picture most contain exactly two worms! No more, no less.
Normally, being a thread for T17 Fanart, the thread theme's shouldn't normally be so exclusive to one series, or this restricting altogether. But since this is the first month, it's best to start with something simple!

I... think that's it! Hopefully this will get a better turn-out than last time, because it'd be really cool if this was popular enough to get going again!

as for what happened to this place? it got old and team17 forgot about it. no new news has been posted here, none of the T17 staff post any significant amount, and every newbie has to be moderated before they can post. add on top of that the fact that T17 hasn't released a good game in years and are just riding on the coat-tails of their past fame, and you get a forum that no one cares about anymore. T17 as a company is pretty irrelevant these days and so, by extension, is their forum.

It's true that the forum has been allowed to drift for a long time, but it's my goal to bring it's relevance back to the fore. All it needs is for long time forumites to show trhe right kind of attitude and get behind initiatives. As for T17 as a company being irrelevant, the opposite is true and we as a company are doing really well and our plans for the future and in particular Worms are very exciting at least for me as someone who has been involved with T17 for a hell of a long time now. :)

Worms will be our mainstay for a while to come yet but we will be able to experiment with other things going forward. It's a shame about Alien Swarm really and I would hate to see Alien Breed die off because of that.

Worms and Team17 are linked together and like it or not that is what we will be concentrating on for the immediate future. It's a bit like Sports Interactive not doing Football Management games any more because they've done enough now. :) While Worms still sells really well we will continue to move forward, we have big plans for Worms in the next couple of years.

Any chance we're going to see something actually interesting or innovative in the future of the series? Or will it all be just the same thing again with new, boring missions, some crappy gimmick and a few changes in the weapon arsenal?

Actually, the Tactics mode in Battle Islands was a nice idea. There are two reasons though why I don't really enjoy it:

a) It's not extended enough. In my opinion, with each player having their own island, there could have been a lot more features than "only" using one's abilities in the beginning of a normal Deathmatch. Maybe even some completely new game modes I can't think of at the moment...

b) Lack of players. Compared to Open Warfare 2, Reloaded or Armageddon, the number of people playing this game online is ridiculously small. In addition to that, people prefer playing Deathmatch for some reason. Perhaps because they fear to lose any of their abilities, since once you do, it should be real hard to gain more of them. It's sort of unbalanced, just like a beat of Mario Kart :p

How about a Lemmings clone with T17 IP then? :D
You could recycle the kittens from Pussies Galore (http://www.dream17.info/softography.php?id=65) for that.
http://www.dream17.info/screenshot_pussiesgalore_amiga00.jpg

A new Superfrog 2D-platformer for PC, with similar features as "Jazz Jackrabbit 2" (4-player splitscreen, online play, CTF, race modes, death match, level editor,...) would be great.

Also, a vehicular combat racing game (i.e. Worms Battle Rally) with a mixture of features from games like Re-Volt, Wacky Wheels, Mario Kart, Micro Machines, i.e. small cars, crazy weapons, convincing driving physics, extraordinary racing tracks, battle/shoot-out modes, split-screen, online multiplayer, level editor...

How about recycling Witchwood (http://www.dream17.info/softography.php?id=63)?
People seem to like those fantasy-themed RPGs with elves and dwarves. Add some battle element with endless collecting (á la Pokemon) and I could imagine that it would work. Especially for hand-held platforms and younger audiences.
Or maybe something action-oriented like "Magicka".

Pussies Galore, Witchwood and Worms Battle Rally were all unreleased/canceled games.
And all of them with something that T17 either haven't done before or not anymore after the beginning of the Worms franchise 15 years ago.
So it's hardly recycling, but more digging out the old concepts and finally implementing them.

Besides, I want such potential games with everything that a modern 2011 game can bring, not merely a "retro" re-release of the same old Amiga game. (To get that, I can emulate Amiga good enough.)

Don't be stupid. 4 worms per team is perfectly fine, 1 worm is not. Also note that the first Worms games only allowed 4 worms per team as well, and these games are still genious. Additionally, 40 to 60 weapons is not much of a difference, especially when the 60 weapons arsenal is full of duplicates and merges.

Okay, that might was some bad wording by me again, but that joke doesn't make much sense really, or rather it's a little random. It would fit if they limited the team members number just for the heck of it, however they gave definite reasons that are reasonable in their opinion.

In that matter, random. Especially because the game before Reloaded was Space Oddity, which only featured three worms per team, so actually we should be joking about how the next game will feature five worms, then six and so on until eight is reached again :p

And that's besides the point really, if you think every WR jab (serious or not) is worth arguing over immediately like you're its personal crusader that will show everyone the true righteous path (even though it contributes nothing and just disrupts threads), then don't be surprised if you're mocked for it.
