Did you make your labels transparent (Alt+Del)?

FPS-measuring tools like FRAPS may not be able to detect actual frame rates in games without double-buffering, because drawing without double-buffering simply involves drawing to a memory bitmap, then copying it to the screen row-by-row (which is why you get tearing).

Oh, yes, I have labels always transparent... I tested without it and it works like charm. But damn I won't give up the transparency :)

Yeah, I didn't get framerate showing without double buffering but it felt like 60+ fps, no lag at all.

One small question: is there a new patch coming someday that will support maps without the necessary size divided by 8?

That would make the resizing progress faster :)

I wouldn't hold your breath.

d3rd3vil
11 Feb 2012, 12:07
Yeah well I won't do that due to my safety :)

But I think Worms Armageddon is nearly perfect. Some small fixes and comforting extras would be appreciated though. But after more than 10 years there can't be anything expected :)

Don't quote me on it, but I don't think that's likely. There are many optimizations in W:A's logic that rely on this constraint (there are 8 bits in a byte, and W:A use a monochrome bitmap for collision detection).

What we could do is give you some options when importing a map in the editor that doesn't satisfy the requirements.

Why not automatically increase the images width and/or height before loading and print a note about that.

Borders .

Pac-Man

Yeah but sometimes those don't matter - and a warning about a resized map could be better.

No, it wouldn't.

Good. Then let's go for the next "my new map doesn't work" threads. http://forum.team17.co.uk/images/icons/icon7.gif

CyberShadow

We're still comparing warnings with prompts, right?

d3rd3vil
12 Feb 2012, 10:11
Well thx for answering CyberShadow. This "8" thing is not necessary of course. We've managed for more than 12 years :)

But this:

"What we could do is give you some options when importing a map in the editor that doesn't satisfy the requirements."

is a good idea! Include a little algorithm that straightens the map out once it's measures can't be divided by 8 ^^

But it should be a clever algorithm :)
For example the map is 3999x3999 big then the outcome should be 4000x4000 (or the next possibility below) and not 800x800 :)

Or give us 3 options! A small one with 1600x1600, 3200x3200 and a 4000x4000 :)
Just suggestions though :D

franpa
12 Feb 2012, 12:52
You shouldn't be using an algorithm to enlarge a map that isn't divisible by 8, instead you should increase the dimensions of the image and pad out the extra area (Borders) with black/empty space.

Increasing or decreasing the map graphics will do nothing but introduce artifacts to the image.

CyberShadow
12 Feb 2012, 12:58
Only with naive algorithms.

Lex
12 Feb 2012, 17:27
I agree with Franpa. Any sort of actual scaling algorithm used on one's map would be very undesirable.

CyberShadow
12 Feb 2012, 17:28
I think seam carving will work very well on most maps.

franpa
13 Feb 2012, 02:19
Note your use of "most".

CyberShadow

It's common pasttime for us forumgoers to randomly start assuming we know more about what's best for WA than Cybershadow does. And get into arguments with him about it.
It's fun for everyone!

Except maybe Cybershadow.

Saw a funny thing today, that I never saw before. One guy blowtorched towards an instant mine; when he was quite close the mine bounced a little and there was that hissing sound. After that the guy just went too close to the bouncing mine and blew up.

That could be used to knock instant mines at enemy :p But might be very hard to do succesfully.

Mines check for worms within their diamond-shaped trigger range every 5 frames (0.1 seconds). What you saw was unlikely, but happened because of that. The worm was diagonal to the mine, so it got nearly as close as possible.

hoppi
21 Feb 2012, 05:08
Okey, thanks for clarification :)

KRD
21 Feb 2012, 21:30
Haha, that looked like a fun game.

The trick can be done a little more reliably with fire punch instead of blowtorch, by the way. But unless you catch the mine with the very corner of your punching worm's sprite, it still goes horribly wrong and explodes in your face, as you'd expect. It used to be a relatively popular thing to do in the Elite scheme, I guess because you can punch the mine from below without actually making a hole in the terrain under it (and allowing the enemy easy access to you).

I know this is a common question but when will you release new patch :)? I would like to hear missing sounds from soundbanks (excellent, brilliant, goaway, leavemealone and so...). Would it be too difficult to turn them on :P?

Posts in Worms Armageddon subforum and WA knowledge.

If you open the weapon options then hover over the weapons, you get an amusing help hint for each weapon.

If you press the "cheats" button then press it again to flip back, the first 5 weapon help hints change to something else.
What it changes to depends upon which weapon option screen (Ammo, Power, Delay or Crates) you had open prior to toggling the cheats button.

First post here. I have norton and it says that the file is a virus. What should I do?

CyberShadow
17 Sep 2012, 05:16
Some antiviruses are known to report W:A updates as false positives. Please contact your antivirus vendor and let them know of the false positive.

To be sure, you should verify the file signature (MD5 sum) and compare it with the one in the first post. If it matches, then your copy of the installer hasn't been modified on its way to your computer.

See this (http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-report-malware-or-false-positives-multiple-antivirus-vendors.htm) page, find your antivirus vendor in list, and push the link to report a false positive.

FYI: Norton = Symantec. Use this (https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/) link for it.

Ahhhh it's good to visit here again. Nice to see that, after all these years, these update threads are still active! :D

I got inspired to come back after seeing a YouTube video by the ever-increasingly popular Nerd^3 doing a let's play of W:A on his channel.

Anyway, getting on topic, I'm going to download this latest patch. Now, here's the difficulty - and I'm sure you've had this asked more than once here so far:

I was one of the numerous people around the world who were bold (and/or poor) enough to try out the Win 8 Beta. Short of reading through 7˝ 40-post pages in this thread, can anyone please tell me what I need to know about trying to apply the update to an installation on said OS and how it fits in with my intention to purchase the Steam release? Alternatively, can somebody link me to a page where I can read up on it?

Cheers all :)

The Steam version of WA was only available as a pre-order bonus for the new worms game. It is no-longer available to buy (but may become a standalone purchase in the future).

I used to play this game with my cousin. I had good memories of it. So I bought it recently. It's still fun, offline, online or with a friend, I can run it fine, the cartoonish graphics on high resolution look great to me, oldskool. It only freezes sometimes, rarely, but this is probably because of my computer (it freezes mostly when I'm in the map editor, so I'm not using that much). Wormkit freezes regulary so I can't really use that. But hey it's okay.

So I also found out this game was being updated. I would like to thank Team17 (I mean how much old games do you know which are still being updated?) and of course Deadcode and Cybershadow. It's not 'just' updates, from the information what I've gathered it's a really ambitious project! Scribble feature, WWP merge, custom weapon support - to name a few.

I can't wait for the next patch. I can understand it takes time. I'm thinking of doing a donation, I don't buy games that often, I'm very picky, so I might donate to support you guys.

Now I would like to report something, there's some things wrong in Dutch:

-Sheep should be schaap, not schapen, shapen is the plural of sheep in Dutch. Schapen is several sheep, schaap is one sheep.
-Handgun should be pistool, not geweer which means rifle in Dutch.
-Darkside could be translated to Duistere Zijde, but Darkside is more of a 'wormish' word so it is alright.

Somethings aren't translated at the weapon settings, but could that be because of the weapon unlocker? I didn't want to play all missions to unlock the weapons because I prefer to play with a friend or against my own ai teams with all of the weapons.

Anyway, big thumbs up for team 17 and the team behind the updates! I'm very thankful! I wish the team good luck!

The things in the weapons settings menu aren't translated because the ability to edit those weapons weren't added until one of the beta updates. Obviously Deadcode and CyberShadow don't have a team of translators available to them, so whichever languages the more proactive people happen to know will be the ones that get more up-to-date translations ;)

I would expect if one of those developers sees this, they might be getting in touch with you if you do wish to translate all the strings that haven't been translated into Dutch.

Hey thanks for the reply! I would like to do the translations. So, I'm going to translate them and then post them here or contact the team.

Another thing that's translated wrong, is the prod, to be precise:

-Duw*tje* means *little* push, prod would be porretje or what I personaly like better is por

EDIT here it goes, the translated weapons information

-Franse Schaap Aanval - Het Wollige Wonder Wapen.
-Balk Startpak - Een spoedcursus architectuur.
-Patsy's Magische Kogel - Het is toch geen complot...
-MB Bom - De begeerde MB Bom.
-Luchtpost - Het ultieme wapen voor de ontevreden post bezorger.
-Bevriezen - Gletsjer in een doos.
-Aardbeving - Het is allemaal jouw fout.
-Selecteer worm - Iene, miene, mutte, tien pond grutten...

All are literally translated, some I even mangaged to keep the joke.
For example; with Indian Nuclear Test it says knaller which both
means explosion but also hit as in popular.

The only one I can't translate is the super banana. Could somebody explain the joke, it says:
EDIT I see it's from a movie. Maybe think of something else? I just did.

-Super Banana - Your produce alone has been worth the trip!

Last but not least, a translation from the scheme options menu:

-The worms are moved randomly - Willekeurige worm selectie
(it's not a literally translate, it means random worm selection)
